Ten little Sepiroth went out to dine; One choked his little self and then there were nine. Nine little Sepiroth sat up very late; One overslept himself and then there were eight. Eight little Sepiroth travelling in Devon; One said he'd stay there and then there were seven. Seven little Sepiroth chopping up sticks; One chopped himself in halves and then there were six. Six little Sepiroth playing with a hive; A bumblebee stung one and then there were five. Five little Sepiroth going in for law; One got in Chancery and then there were four. Four little Sepiroth going out to sea; A red herring swallowed one and then there were three. Three little Sepiroth walking in the zoo; A big bear hugged one and then there were two. Two little Sepiroth sitting in the sun; One got frizzled up and then there was one. One little Sepiroth left all alone; He went out and hanged himself and then there were none.

This is absolutely amazing. Whoever the 7 guys were (on this day) their bums are obviously hurt because they either can't do this, or because they can't understand it. I love metal with absolutely no vocals. I was in a metal band years ago and we were all instrumental, or "instrumetal" as we liked to call it. This is type of music I find has more in common with certain genres of jazz music than it does with certain rock music. These guys are literally maxing out what can be down on these instruments. They're pushing them to their very limits. To me, this song right here that I just listened to for the first time, was art. It's like watching a symphony to me.

have been a fan of Sebastian for years, from Panzerballet. I am a big fan of metal too, but not a singularly obsessed metalhead or anything. Wondering what hardcore metal guys think of panzerballet. Sebastian and those guys all have degrees from the German university. Their music is "off the chart" jazz and metal compositions and recomposed covers. Obscura and such music is physically challenging as far as the blastbeats, etc, but rhythmically straightforward for Sebastian, based on the sort of things he plays in Panzer. I like the fretless sounding bass like cynic and certainly strong material from the "prog tech death" genre.

Oh my goodness, how refreshing this is. Not a single trigger to be heard, and actual hard, proper hitting. Even the sticks are big and chunky. Is this really death metal?! But yes, compared to the other trigger-happy speed demons out there this is great not only because it's organic, but as a drummer, the diversity in this man's playing really puts a smile on my face. Yes, it may not be blinding double bass 16th notes at 250+bpm, but this is Obscura; not bloody Nile. Too often do I find (especially in Nile) there is very little to no changes in flow or structure in the drumming. Blast beat, fill. More blast beats, more fills. And maybe if you're listening to something more brutal, a few bomb blasts here and there. This on the other hand I would call the "thinking man's drumming". 2 seconds on a skank beat, maybe another couple on a bomb blast, going into a normal blast, fitting tasteful fills between each change in beat. All the while going through constantly changing time signatures, 2/4, 3/4, 5/4, etc...fantastic.
