He knew. People can tell when they're deathly ill. That's why he told them he was frightened. Last year I had my own brush with death, a bilateral pulmonary embolism which came close enough to killing me that I was told if I'd gone to sleep instead of calling an ambulance, I'd never have woken up again. I knew something wasn't right; I'd never felt like that before. Heading to hospital in the ambulance, I felt detached and calm, but I knew there was a good chance I wouldn't be coming home again. You know your own body, and when something is seriously wrong with it, you can tell.

Actually panicking or a panic feeling is a common symptom of a heart attack or heart falure. And I think theres a much better way to respectfully saying someone's impeding departure or passing away. Because for me I definitely do not see death as doom, death is but another step. Another journey to partake in.

Rest in peace John. It's so scary for me to know my father could have died like him. Well .... He did die but was so incredibly lucky he could be resuscitated after his heart stopped. My father is the most stubborn man on earth. He was feeling unwell for weeks before he got a heart attack. But ofc wouldn't go to see a doc. Last year two days after Chirstmas he got really unvell at night. Then proceeded to get up , dress himself. Got in the car and drove to the hospital. ALONE without telling anyone. Then when he went into the emergency entrance. He told his name to the admitting nurses and collapsed on the spot. His heart stopped and had to be revived then had a 3-4 hour long surgery to implant 4 STENTs. While we all slept at home knowing nothing ..... He didn't bring any identification with himself and his phone was code locked so the nurses couldn't call anyone. At morning when the family woke up and he + the car wasn't at home we just thought he went to get something. But then he didn't return all day we started to really worry. Not answering his phone no friends seen or heard from him. So we started to call around the hospitals. When i learned that he is on breathing machine in the ICU i almost fainted. I will never forget the sight of him hooked on all those tubes white as a sheet looking like he would die any second. After almost a year passed now and he is a LOT better. He had a secondary surgery not long after and a few months of rehabilitation. He is still very sad that have to take 6-7 pills a day for the rest of his life but its so good to know he is with us and he learned to tell when he feels bad before something actually happens. ( lot of crying and scolding ) I have never been so scared in my life. For a week it looked like he might not make it. I still have his shirt that he had on that night. I just can't bring myself to throw it in the trash . ( It had to be ripped / torn off him so he can be revived with the defibrillator )

The ambulance 🚑 man holding the baby in the beginning wasn’t playful to the poor baby, he was just staring at the poor sick baby.

Poor lad, how old is Mathew?

I'd say in his 30s early 40s maybe. His father seemed to be in his 60s. Mathew seemed a lot older though but it could be because of his health problems

The more I watch these videos the less impressed I am with the healthcare industry in the UK. These responders do a wonderful job with their patients but what good is it if they get them to the hospital and the hospital does half a job caring for them before sending them back out on the street ??

Its actually a great system - and the taxes change with income too. Would you rather pay a little more or one day suffer a heart attack and cost your family a fortune

7:15 - ER-nurse in training here and I don't really get why they do an ECO and start discussing heart-disease with the patient. All they're doing is making him more scared and upset. It's clear from the initial assessment that this patient is going to the hospital, and fast. Shortness of breath and chest-pain should be a red one as well.

I agree with you. The paramedics should keep quiet during their assistance. Talking around the patient with their theories can cause terrible stress to the patient.

I agree. I also find that those 2 with John weren’t very compassionate. When he was crying and saying frightening, they just continued questioning him. Plus, 27 minutes assessing before leaving for the hospital is a really long time for heart failure. They lack experience and are still very young so hopefully, they will grow in experience and compassion
