My closest friend is British and told me that during the war the Queen Mother would be up early to inspect those parts of London which had been hit by German planes during the previous night...she was always the first at the site and always trying to bring a note of normalcy to the situation. The British loved her.

The British monarchy stole $41 TRILLION from India and starved 30 million Indians to death during WWI & WWII while funneling India's food supply to the British military for their war efforts. Lol. Elizabeth didn’t “serve”. She put on some kind of uniform that looked the part…and she took lessons on changing tires on a jeep. She was a real lady that had everyone sorted. How she changed when she got older. The Queen Mother was really attractive as a young woman, even with the plain hairstyle. One never knows what life is going to throw at you. Never did she realise that she would be married to a king 🤴 & she a Queen. I often wonder why she never had another child, it probably would have been son. Things are not like that today in the Royal Family. The children are different & not willing to give up to serve. The new generation changes with the times like everyone else. Looking at this film on her life, she was a remarkable woman of her time.

One funny story I've heard about the Queen Mother was that she was notoriously late for dinner most evenings. So her daughter, Queen Elizabeth II, would frequently tell her mother dinner would be at 5, but it would not actually be served until 6. Of course, I'm not sure if this is accurate, but humorous all the same.

@ Stacy Russel. Her father in law learned very early, that she was never on time. He did not like it a bit. There were many habits of Elizabeth that he came to dislike, especially her incredible spending w disregard for her bills. She continued to live above her means, and even w a £950,000. yearly allowance given by the British people, she died with £9 MILLION in debt. Her daughter had to pay it off.

@@pickleman502 I suppose it’s down to who you believe. Regardless, she drove up her debt in order to avoid high taxes on her remaining estate after her death. For a country who’s population depends on incoming taxes for public services, this was not a good look. She set up her estate planning so her family were bequeathed millions in cash & property but she left large debt so the common folk couldn’t benefit. Off shore accounts with millions, similar to the estate planning the queen has in place. The royals are very thoughtful. You’ll get very little in the way of taxes to improve your lives, after their deaths.

@@karenblackadder1183 Are you stupid or did you reply to the wrong comment? My comment was regarding adultery and how it should not be accepted, not Diana. Maybe some English lessons would be beneficial for you. As for Diana, she was just 19 years old when they married and became a mother at 20. She was barely more than a child herself. A silly little naive girl with fairy tale dreams of happily ever after. Charles however was a full grown (experienced) man who should have used the brain in his head and not the one in his pants when he was looking for a wife. Marriage and motherhood are hard enough (at any age) without adding becoming royalty into the equation. Add into that a unfaithful husband and she never stud a chance.

@@MM-zg4bc So, where were Diana's parents and grandmother? In my family one wouldn't have let an unstable 19 y.o. marry a much older heir to the throne. They all knew that divorce was not an option at that time. It's easy to blame Charles and the RF but no one ever talks about Diana's own family, mother was just gone, father just that old Earl Spencer, naturally all innocent and not relevant, right? Nah, that's not how life works. We all know nowadays that all the issues Diana had stem from childhood mostly. More than unfortunate that she had to marry someone who never loved her because that triggered the worst in her and I feel more than sorry for her but her own family doesn't seem to have cared much to support or shelter her.

She knownly allowed relatives who were mentally handicapped to live in institutions, forgotten about and to be buried in unmarked graves. It's also very likely she was racist and a colonialist. The women of the royal family have a long history of grace and service. Diana was one of them but she certainly wasnt the only one. The difference with her is that her cheating, filth husband was favored by the royals, out of loyalty and obligation, but the people were always on her side. She was the People's Princess, regardless of whom was married to. That was a threat to them, hence the conspiracy theories.

The Queen originally appeared around the bombed out London streets in furs & diamonds. She was advised by the palace staff, that the common folks felt uncomfortable w the Queen flaunting her good fortune of marrying into the RF, and she reluctantly toned it done. She thought the people would want to see their Queen in jewels. It’s also a fact that she & the king slept at Windsor Castle when London was in danger throughout the war. They weren’t at Buckingham Palace. That was early PR spin to make the Brits think they were very brave. Why stay in a huge target when there was a fortified castle with a nice cellar only 20 minutes away? Plus, her daughters were there.

As with most well-known and well-loved personalities like the Royals, there are quite a few embellishments and myths that are woven around them. I saw the Queen Mother as a socialite, clothes horse, and eager to show off her lavish lifestyle and possessions even during a so-called “picnic.” I also thought it quite selfish of her to run up bills to support her lavishness and self-comfort when she actually wasn’t paying for it. She certainly took advantage of all the perks that came with her marriage, and she relished every bit of it. Not saying I wouldn’t have done that same if in her shoes, but how “strong” does one have to be with a huge complement of servants seeing to your every need? She loved being in public and having people see her, so that was no great work for her.

If one prince had to abdicate because he wanted to marry an American divorcée, then I think Prince Charles should abdicate to his son Prince William. There shouldn’t be a divorced individual as the king or queen of Great Britain? What standard have we fallen to that Prince Charles love affair with Camilla doesn’t affect his chances at being king? He shouldn’t be king.
