Where the Simionic is way better is when you want to dive a little deeper into the functions of the MFD. The X-Plane/RealSimGear MFD offers only a few functions - not even a RAIM check can be simulated. Simionic is close to the real thing. Also the RealSimGear is a pain when you need to set minimuns for an approach at an airport with a high elevation. It just takes ages to dial them in. Another issue with the RealSimGear/X-Plane G1000 is that you cannot change the localizer course setting by yourself, which you need to be able to fly some approaches and departures (e.g. LOWI RTT 4H where you need to change from 066 to 064). No problems with Simionic here.

Great video...love the series. Very helpful. I own the Simionics and really like it...I don't have experience with the RealSimGear. A couple of plusses and minuses I've noticed with the Simionics. Pros: 1. Can work as autopilot or navigation for other planes that don't have their own G1000 panels in Xplane (e.g. 172 from AirFoilLabs). 2. Has a few more Garmin options (e.g. mixture leaning) that are not in the built-in Xplane G1000. 3. Implements the MFD cursor panning feature that allows you to highlight different nav sectors on the map and see their altitude restrictions...I don't think the Xplane G1000 can do that, but I'm not sure. Cons: 1. the nav data doesn't come from Navigraph. Some of the floors of the Class-B sector altitudes are wrong (e.g. near KHAF in SF) ...I mentioned this to Li and he said he didn't really have a way to fix this...he just "guessed" at the altitudes...3000 ft instead of 1600ft...boo! 2. There seems to be a lag in RPM gauges. Also, for P3D, RPM in A2A cessna is wrong - again Li said nothing can be done about this..A2A is using a "hidden" lvar or something like that 3. If you don't uncheck the 3rd checkbox in the bridge software, to link to the autopilot of the g1000 in Xplane, they fight each other and you will crash. When the autopilot is on for the Simionics it cannot be on for the Xplane built in one. The Simionics has its own built-in autopilot and that setting is not remembered...you have to uncheck it manually every time you start it up. 4. For some reason it seems every couple of days to stop charging. You have to hit Nose Up and Nose DN simultaneously on the bezel to re-connect it. Also, although the lack of access to the home button is a pain, you can change the accessibility settings in the iPad to allow a virtual home button...I believe some of the simionics docs say so. Li has done an amazing job and responds quickly to requests. I'm very happy with the Simionics...but just like with most software, I wish some of the shortcomings were addressed.

For the past three years I’ve used the simionic apps in my iPad Air 2’s and had no trouble with them. There’s great support from Li Chen. I use them in my home setup and connects through the bridge to FSX and MSFS 2020 . They can be configured only through the PFD app to not only the aircraft listed but also whatever craft you’re flying in FSX etc you just add them manually and set up all the parameters so the engine and gauges are mirror images as displayed in the sim. The only drawback is there’s no configuring 4 engined craft like the 747 or A380 etc, yet….. The Radio panel can now have input mapping so any unused buttons can be configured to operate other functions like flight controls surfaces, failures, autopilot and auto throttle functions etc.

I’ve been a MS FltSim guy my whole life, since the PC Jr. But I am quickly converting to X-Plane. These guys are on the right track.

Nice video. Another unit you should review is the one from NOBLE Flight Simulation. They are apparently also producing their own G1000 software. They have a real nice G1000 but by far have the best Cirrus Perspective hardware unit out there!

You missed to tune the Simionic CDI to GPS, you have it tuned to VOR, if you tune to GPS the Glideslope may come up on the display

The Simionic had VOR 1 selected, not GPS, could it be that the reason why it wasn't driving the GPS-Based glidepath?

Are you trying to get Xavion ‘legal’ for flight use? I downloaded it to my I-pad to try it out. However I haven’t been able to use it just yet. For the moment your presentations of it are very impressive.

The iPad can show the same info as the RSG using a desktop extension app. Makes the Simionic more versatile. The Simionic is also fully customizable for single/twin prop/turboprop/jet.

Is there any plan for the the X-Plane G1000 to support twin turboprops? If you put it on a twin jet or turboprop, it shows the engine instrumentation for a twin piston.

Speaking of"real Garmin" functionality with external bezels (or even just a single encoder). The G1000 that comes with X-plane, has an "issue", where when you change the BARO setting in inHg the encoder works flawlessly, but when you use hPa (as we use throughout Europe) is gives the impression to skip every 3 steps (clicks) or so... The ACTUAL altitude readout still changes, whilst the hPa setting remains the same, before it finally "ticks-over" after 3 steps on the encoder. Looking at DataRef, is seems that X-plane internally ONLY works with inHg (regardless of what unit is displayed). You can see the BARO_SETTING changes by 0.0.1 (mmHg) for every click, and in return this is reflected on the altimeter. You shouldn't really see any change in altitude if your (displayed) BARO setting has not changed... The "real" way, when using hPa (just like when using mmHg), would be for that value to change by 1 unit, be it 1 hPa or 0.01mmHg respectively, for every step on the encoder , and then I guess, the hPa value could be converted to mmHg and the value updated "internally" by some built in code. Hopefully an update could easily fix that...?!

I note you are using the TQ6 throttle and Yoko yoke now. Gone off the Honeycomb?

The Simionics suite had Vor 1 selected as the CDI, hence no glidepath. Also, the Garmin easily shows the altitude you need to be at for each fix. Just hit the FPL button on the MFD.

Is it possible to just drop in regular 10" 4:3 LCD displays driven by the PC with the Simionic bezels? 10" VGA/HDMI displays are available from AliExpress for 1-2 hundred $ each?

Another method to turn on the iPads & SimIonic bezels: i.e. power up iPads you press Nose Up - Nose Down button simultaneously on the bezel. I also use the assistive touch feature. Works slick for me.

If I have ForeFlight open on one iPad and Xavion open on another, X-Plane11 won't connect to either. If I turn the Xavion iPad completely off then the first iPad actually connects and then I can turn the second on, start up Xavion, and then both apps run simultaneously

See the Simionic setup where it shows you how to get a ghosted soft home button you can press anytime. (by the way, I paid $200 each iPad for iPad Air 2 ipads in Canadian dollars.. about $160 US)

On the Simionics the CDI is set to VORILS. Garmin constantly refers to this in training. GREEN needles VLOC, MAGENTA needles GNSS. I'm absolutely sure Austin wouldn't make that error when flying an actual a/c!

Simionic is the better buy, but not for the reasons you think. If you understand the way the realsimgear works, you understand that it is just a second and third display that you drag the Xplane's graphics onto. What a lot of my clients don't realize is that you can do the same thing with the Ipads using an app called Duet Display. The bezels are just a bunch of buttons and knobs mapped to Xplane functions. With the realsimgear, your PC has to run those displays through your video card which has a max of 4 display outputs. With the simionics and duet, you are essentially getting 2 extra displays without overtaxing your video card. Hope this helps.

Why does the real sim gear not have the the propeller rpm arc like the simionics does? Also, if I buy the realismgear and use it with the hotstart tbm900 will the g1000 work with SID and STAR procedures? I know the xplane g1000 do not. I am very close to pulling the plug on the realsimgesr tbm900 package but want to make sure that I will beable to fly SID AND STAR PROCEDURES and I want to make sure that the prop rpm arc is present.

The top garmin wasn't set to GPS as noted by the green in the headline line of the pfd which is why it wasn't tracking.

One thing you mentioned about not knowing your altitude at your fixes. Just FYI on your MFD press your FPL and will give you altitudes for those fixes in white. However, those are referenced and you should double-check your approach plate altitudes against those in the GPS database. The reason the Simonics did not pull up the GS is you had it in VOR mode. Pay attention to your CDI and what mode you have selected. Here is a Tip for all you wanting to fly instruments, FIST (Frequency-VOR/GPS) (Identify-Morse Code, Fix name) (Select CDI-VLOC, GPS) ( Track-CDI). I wish I was on your G1000 development team. There are so many things in your coding that does not match, or not in your software. Xplane development team please go through the Simonics Guy software is so much better than Xplane. Please at least put in the SUSP option. I.E. when you load an approach up and the RNAV has a transition that is a PT/Hold in a real G1000 if ATC wants you in the hold you hit the SUSP and cycles you in the hold and the Approach is in suspend. You are close, and hoping to see Xplane perfect it.

Sincere respect and kudos to you for reviewing these products and all the work you have done in the aviation community. This video helped me make a decision as to whether or not I should invest $2000 for a G1000 simulator. But honest feedback: when you're doing videos with more than one speaker / presenter, the other person needs a mic or 2nd cam focused on them because it makes it very difficult to hear them and makes the video impersonal (your intended purpose is supposed to be a presentation to the audience, not with Mike in the background. You'll lose viewership and rapport quickly because you're not connecting with your audience).

@24:40 You can't expect from a wrong set instrument to display what you have in mind. SET IT TO GPS as NAV source and not to LOC/VOR... then it will show everything correct. THIS IS NOT the fault of the simionic, it's the pilot's!

I have a Garmin G3X in my Cardinal and I use two Garmin 430s as the Nav Source. I don't know much about simulators, but it looks like there isn't any good option for setting up a home Simulator with Xplane that duplicates that configuration. Is that correct? X plane gives an option to use a Garmin 430, but it has steam gages. The G1000 option has a similar glass display to the G3X but it uses it's own Nav source. Is there any way to do a simulator that has a G1000 that uses the Garmin 430 or 530 as the Nav source?

Or, you can simply copy and paste the .acf file, name it a different name, and drop in the G1000 units from plane maker and BOOM, you have a plane that has G1000 support. Also, as a Simionics user myself (not the full thing just the iPad app), it “supports” any plane, whether it has the G1000 or not, you just may get some indications that you’ve exceeded engine thresholds or Vne. Also, with Simionics, getting the G1000 in X-Plane and the Simionics G1000 to play nice together is sometimes a pain and can lead to some rather unsettling autopilot SNAFUs.

Would it be much better to purchase 2 RealSimGear G1000 one for PFD and one for MFD being that if you purchase the combo with the center piece (that does nothing but visual) correct me if i am wrong.. and i will only cost $1796 for 2 G1000 PFD and use one for MFD. A huge bug with simionic's software. I emailed the creator and got a response saying they have no solution but will work on the issue. CDI is different on the iPad app than it is in the flight sim due to magnetic variation between the 2 systems. The DME also shows incorrectly sometimes and the heading altitude bug is very laggy on the iPad app. I have not purchased the bezel because of these bugs but have used the apps and this is a pretty big issue for me considering I am using this as an instrument flight student.

Watching your video further and the approach although loaded in the simionic g1000 the cdi wasn’t in gps mode also the FD wasn’t activated neither your AP according to the displays in the PFD top centre and they would be in green. Unlike the real sim product that showed a magenta pointer etc and the glide scope display. I’ve had no problem with my simionic setup for 4 years and they’re still improving with NAV updates that when ready download when the app is opened but you do have the option to update at a later date. So I’m kind of disagreeing with your review of the simionic products and feel your research into them needs to be full before determining their comparison with other products you seemed to leaning towards.

Simionic is one of the best G1000 simulation. Fully comparable with F1Tech G1000, much better then MindStar. X-Plane G1000 implementation is only little bit better then poor. It is clear, this man is not IFR pilot.

The Real Sim Gear 530 is a disaster also. Its extremely difficult to get running, the HDMI and power plugs vertically into the bottom and USB plugs into the side, that makes it next to impossible to get it to fit into a simulator panel. I'm returning mine and never want to deal with Real Sim Gear again.

Isn't it funny that Garmin isn't one of the LEADING Flight Sim G1000 hardware suppliers? I mean, with a bit of tweaking of their setups, they could be supplying tons of additional hardware to a market that is completely NOT COMPETING with their main stream business. Instead, you have to have two other companies that make it work. Lunacy and completely missed marketing...a good example of a company that likely won't be able to reinvent themselves beyond the one or two trick pony they are riding now.
