We finally came up with an idea for a storage shelf unit in the rear bulkhead of our skoolie! We needed some open storage space for large items like our guitar, but also wanted more enclosed storage, too. In this video you see our idea coming to life... and then disaster strikes! One simple thing went horribly wrong, and then we had to decide what to do about it. You'll find out everything that happened in this episode!
Sorry if this one's a little long ~ we thought it was better to keep all in one episode instead of splitting it into 2 parts. Hope you enjoy!

About Us:
Hi! We are Mike & Kerry, the proud owners of a 1992 Bluebird rear engine (pusher), 40' school bus! We named her Bussy McBusface in honor of the RRS Boaty McBoatface travesty!
We're building a Tiny-Home-in-a-Bus for full-time living in the most adventure-friendly way possible! In other words, Bussy will not be parked in our driveway, waiting for weekend or holiday getaways... when we finish the build, we'll be packing everything we're keeping into the bus and driving away from this old house forever!
We plan to be boondocking the majority of the time, so you'll see that reflected in our choices throughout the build (100 gallon water tank, composting toilet, solar power system, etc). We'd love to have you stick around and follow us on our journey, throughout the Skoolie Build, and to Infinite Adventures Beyond!
Mike & Kerry

Stain remover or sanding would have been cheaper and easier, most places you can get stains mixed to a color you desire rather than buying off the shelf, it costs more but it would all match perfectly.

Wow! Do you have to sponge it off afterward, or put on some kind of neutralizer to stop the reaction? Does that just work for stain, or would it work if they'd already put on the polyurethane? (Sometimes people will sponge off "some" of the extra stain to lighten it up a bit (do so right away), but Idk how MUCH you can lighten it/if it would've been enough that they would've liked it).

💖 Admittedly, I would have left it in... But I'm used to mismatched hand-me-downs. 😂 Sweet build. Made me wish rear bulkheads came in the same sizes, but I am pretty sure the bulkhead on my shorty isn't the same size. Otherwise I would say send it my way! 😏 Yeah yeah yeah yeah I sure do like your pocket drill vice. Mine is one of those you have to use clamps with... And well... Beside the fact it's too easy to misplace... I end up doing other things. Aren't you the one that discussed how you made that rig? Or am I thinking of someone else?

that aircilinder on the pocketholer is a great idea , you need to make it so the exaust puff from releasing the pedal is blowing the sawdust away form the bottom of the pockethole device or youre holes might go off a bit at a time from the sawdust collecting under there to make the bow of the ceiling quick and relativily eazy , measure the highest and widest point and cut a piece of wood to that dimention , place the wood horizontal under the curved roof measure the biggest distance between the top of the board and the roof and cut a small scrap of wood to that size hold a pensil under the scrap of wood and follow the curve with the other end basicly transfering the curve of the roof one on one , you need to make sure that the pensil is on the same corner as the corner following the roofline (you need to switch corner to the other side for the other end )and that youre holding the scrap piece horizontal along the roofline should work faster and works better with weird uneven shaped roofsections next time you use stain , get a large empty paintcan with a lid that hold multiple smaller cans of stain and buy more than you need , pour everything together in the big can AND STIR WELL BEFORE USE , use one of those stirpaddles you hook to a drill to realy mix it up intoo a vortec every time you take some out , that should prevent colour differences between batches open the original cans carefully and clean up the paintcans you bought the stain in and save those if you pour the rest back once you done with the bus and it ends up being a full small can you might be able to return it and get youre money back for it (if the can is clean it should look unused )

When I went with invisible line bifocals, something standing vertically looked like the leaning tower at Piza. One day, I woke up and things were straight. Then with or with those glasses, things look straight. It was hard for awhile. I was building a house and arrrgggghhh. I would have never redone this shelf because of 2 shades too dark. I would have tried wiping it with acetone or something... I would have tried to lighten it, but maybe it wouldn't... dunno. But, WOW, turned out very nice.
@MattThie1
@MattThie1 4 жыл бұрын
If you wipe the stain with mineral spirits you can lighten the color before varnish. You can also thin your stain as you use it with mineral spirits for the same effect as not agitating. You can also add some stain to your varnish to darken the color. it will still have the same transparency, as long as you don't go overboard and mix it well. I have used these techniques for years to match home made parts to purchased furniture.

For anybody else facing this, couple of options. Sanding or a stain remover, or my go to for lightening stain that turns out darker than I wanted, restain with a lighter stain...I have had good luck with Golden Pecan. Not judging, as I did this EXACT mistake the first time I did a big staining project...I was helping a friend, and didn't realize that the stain had to be stirred every time, so it was the same thing...light, light, light, OMG dark...ack!
