@@Chrisreedbeats hi i asked myself sth i dont understand .in reason12 Theres also the old analog Mixer so If im using This with why is reason twelve also opening Channels for each new Instrument Sound or device And ITS Not Routing on the analog Mixer itself I have to Connect the cables myself The Other question is why when i Open an old Project of reason 5 the reason 12 Version is Not creating a Mixer Channel for every single Instrument or Sound is in the analog Mixer ? AS i Said ITS doing IT for all new Things from the Rack and ITS creating the Channel and i can Connect to the analog Mixer

Honestly bro, this vid was great. I think you should record a series, diving deeper into each section, giving each section its own vid with a live demonstration. The SSL 9000K, is a powerful tool and if taught correctly, the only tool one needs to start and finish a project. I suggest picking an unmixed, unmastered song you created and mix and master it using Reason's SSL version mixer and Mastering suite. Just a suggestion.

Sincerely I would have bought Reason and set it above all my other DAW software that I purchased over the years since 2009 and beyond if this amazing tutorial was available back then. I heard the famous producers Da Internz bragging about Reason during a studio session working with Big Sean while I was doing internship at Windmark Studio back in 2014 but I was in love with Ableton Live at that time. I own Ableton Live (2009), Pro Tools(2013), Logic Pro(2013), Maschine(2020). I give Chris 5 stars without blinking for this tutorial. Well done.

I bought Reason 3 back in 2007 when I started producing with my own beginner gear/production setup at age 19. It taught me so much. Sadly it only offered midi, unless you sampled in your own audio. It's amazing to see where Reason has moved forward to. I remember it was the upper hand rival to Fruity Loops back then. Fruity Loopers were laughed at haha. Although FL Studio is now the choice for the young generation, it's U.I. has never been for me. I love Reason's built-in SSL like mixer. I like mixing on a mixer, and not having to load in so many plugins. I stopped using Reason in 2009 when I bought a Open Labs Miko that came with Reaper. Reaper allowed my brain and skills to go to a whole top tier level. I then switched to Cubase, then Studio One a couple years later. Then back to Reaper, then to Cakewalk Sonar (great built-in SSL like mixer). I then switched from PC to Mac and started using Logic Pro X in 2018 to current. But with Reason now allowing VST-3 plugins, audio and so much more, I'm switching back to the very first DAW I ever bought. And that makes me incredibly happy. I just ordered it today, right before leaving this comment. I've added a lot to my production Studio over the past couple years. Yamaha Montage 6, Akai MPC X, Audient iD44 MK-II, and just bought a Elktron rytm MK-II, as it works better with how my brain works than the MPC X. But Im still keeping the MPC X 😅. Logic Pro X is great and easy to use. But it doesn't have nearly as many built-in features as Reason 12. At least Logic's built-in effects can be used with other DAWs, as they are actual audio units. So I will be using it's built in vocal pitch effects with Reason 12. I can't wait to get back to where it all started. Thanks for the great video!

This console is amazing I can’t mix any other way, you can even pull off old school analog tricks like if your parallel processing drums you can ram the gain input into the channel comp n get great results, having the eq there too on every channel, hp/LP, everything is right in front of you and sounds great, I rarely need inserts for dynamics n eq, now if only they’d make a dedicated controller for it, or just make a deal with SSL to give UC-1 a preset for it lol

Great vid. However at 4:07, you've completely misunderstood the expansion button. It is not the opposite of a gate, just a less severe one. So instead of completely cutting the sound off below the threshold it reduces it by up to the amount set by the range knob. If it was cutting the sound above the threshold it would be a compressor or limiter. An expander is actually the opposite of a compressor (making the volume above and below the threshold further apart rather than closer).

Hay Chris, can you answer me a question? It may be obvious if you can see the screen but for me seeing the screen has its chalanges due to sight loss. The mixer channels have a comp and gate gain reduction level, shown with 5 lights and is available to remote with the value 0 to 5. My question is does these lights represent 1dB reduction each or does it scale up for each light? I ask as I am currently working on a speaking web UI to work with Reason, that I hope will greatly improve accessibility. all the best, John

I've been using Reason since version 1 and really like except for one limitation. If I want to do multiple mix versions of a song it saves the entire song file each time I make a new mix and save it. These files are really large. In protools or most other DAWs you can save many mixes inside the project and they are very small files since they all reference the same audio files. Is there any way to do this in Reason?

the old 6 and 14 mixers are use to create your instrument, ie you may have several instruments going into the 14 mixer that then go into 1 chanell on the master mixer. mixing mastering can be done when your song is finished, dome do it as they go. i think though that the important thing is not to make it a chore so yes sir, do as you wish

I just do everything like I’m 2 separate people, when I’m producing music, I don’t mix, we’ll other than occasionally adjusting an input gain knob if an instrument is low, but other than that I just make the music, then on another day I sit down as “engineer” and mix, I have to do it that way or I get mid results in both, I find it way better to keep my artist snd engineer sections of my brain separated 😂

You completely and totally lost me within the first 20 seconds of this video with the sunned shaking my head of "huh". Why? I'm a composer. I'm NOT a sound engineer. Reason was originally designed for the composer and then sound design suddenly and completely took over thus leaving the composer a blank check. I do not hear compression, EQ, FX etc in the mixing of sound design when it is already there before it hits the mixer. It's sad.

@@Chrisreedbeats See all those buttons and knobs? Really? What are they good for except to create a total and all-out war on the musician when he/ she really wants nothing to do with them and simply wants to compose and get a very simple very good mix, which is what I do, and so do millions of others without them? As an example, why have faders at all if you and other sound designers are directing everybody to not use them and thus use other functions? So since I don't understand the other functions AT ALL, I'm continuing to use the faders. Again, I don't hear compression, EQ, FX, all this sound design nonsensical gibberish except when it comes from the instruments and SPFX themselves such as the RV7000, The Sweeper etc. When it comes to the mixer EQ's, compression, um nope. And the codes Reason uses to get it's stuff to run? WHAT? You gotta have a PHD in computer science especially to create your very own combinator as an example. And even worse, why is there no heavy metal guitar sound with all the stuff they have? Granted, I've created a truly great one, but I got lucky. Now I get that with all of this, you're doing the best you can, and absolute power to you and many thank you's for all your super hard work. But Reason has to make things much better and easier. Please continue what you do and please tc and have fun.
