Basically. Democracry as a system/principle solves the unsolvable governmental problem of how to keep the government's ideals in line with the publics. However, in exchange it faces two extremely large obligations 1 : the government must back the fuck off. You need private rights and liberties enshrined as unquestionable fact with even minor or indirect infringements being denied entry at the gate unless absolutely necessary. This means the government must actively choose NOT ro 'help' even when it can or thinks it can. In other words it can't pull an EU and 'solve' your poor buying decisions for you. This is because a democratic government thats willing to infringe on private freedoms without absolute necessity is simply mob rule with extra steps. I cannot intercourse your mother because everyone *_else_* in town consents, even a super majority is not sufficient if you're sampling third parties. 2 : you need a primarily post conventional morality population that is educated and will meaningfully engage on these topics. This is practically impossible as the percentage of people with 'true' post conventional morality (i.e. people who actually use moral reasoning to reach their conclusions, rather than those who simply use moral reasoning to justify their conclusions; it's a minor and near unobservable difference, but it can and does matter) is absurdly low. Without it however people will inevitably vote in accordance with mere conventional morality, which means they will normalize "well doing this is a good so we should do it" while ignoring cobra effects, knock-ons, the question of if they are even in their right to do it, etc. This system of judgement can be arbitrarily extended as far as necessary to grant any powers necessary however.

Yeah, didn't really like listening to his co-host on Rising. The Rising co-host, unlike his co-host on Reason, tended to talk over him a little too much and hog air time, which made the Rising co-host seem a little pushy, and I felt like she had a bit of a "progressive" agenda that was a little too predictable and also kind of hidden under a veneer of objectivity. I partly blame him for what I didn't like about Rising, because he didn't always respond effectively or push back enough on the hogging, but to be fair to him, he was in a difficult position with the Rising co-host. I grant that she's got talent, but she's predictable in her biases. Prefer the above video, put out by Reason, a libertarian outlet.
