Our Dream in the Woods

Күн бұрын

In this video, we are finishing and tying rebar, squaring the build site and setting the forms. It's the final push before concrete and we are working hard to get ready! Karlyn, Greg's dad (Dennis) and Erik all help out in this video and we are grateful for all of the extra hands. Tomorrow is concrete day and we couldn't be more ready! It's been a long couple of months! Thanks for sticking with us!
We are excited to bring you along on these beginning steps of our barn build. The goal for this summer is to get the slab poured and then to mill A LOT of lumber to use for the build. If you haven't watched our barn build process from the beginning, check out the playlist at the end of this video, as we have shared from the start of this process.
***We are also finishing up our sawmill cover / sawmill shed build. If you haven't checked out our Sawmill Cover Build from the beginning, definitely check out the playlist. We have shared the process of building this sawmill cover from the very beginning. We have a Woodland Mills HM130 Max sawmill and live in North Idaho. This sawmill cover / sawmill shed is vital to continue milling in the winter months, but it will also be a great way to keep out of the sun during the summer months, and of course all of the rain, in between! We are excited to complete this project, so we can continue milling lumber for our barn build.
Here are the specs on the sawmill cover / sawmill shed we are building:
3 posts in the front
4 posts in the back
Overall dimensions are 15 feet wide by 36 feet long
Longest beam is 28 feet
Front part of the lean to roof is 11'9" and back is 8'
It will have a 3 :12 pitch
Posts and beams are going to be 7 1/2" x 7 1/2"
We have shared the entire build!

Greg, I am sure you are very proud of Carlan sp? for eventually going through the ROTC program and joining the military. Give her a big hug from all of us vets who served in the military. Greg, thanks for your Army service. By the way, I love your background music. 3/4 of an inch off on a huge project like this is fantastic!!! Get some sleep tonight and be ready for your slab pour in the morning. Blessings to all of you folks.

Thank you so much, Bill! I will make sure to give Karlyn a hug. Thank you for your service, as well. Here is a recent text from Karlyn: "4 miler ruck was off to a rough start - I puked right before, but I finished strong and shot a 38/40 on the stress shoot." I can't believe she has access to her phone...officers have it easy! 🤣 We are so proud of her!

Steel/form looks great. Want to take a pause, sort of anyway, wet slab each day to keep concrete wet during the first 28 days or cover with plastic during cure wet cured concrete is largely free of internal stress that will cause cracks and this gives you four weeks to take it easy while your slab gets stronger. Thank your whole family for their service. Ray Stormont

Thank you, Ray! I talked to the concrete contractor and he used a cure and seal for fresh concrete called Diamond Clear from a company called Euclid Chemical. He insisted that watering the concrete wasn't necessary. We will see. Hope he's not wrong.😳

@@ourdreaminthewoodsYour contractor is correct wet curing is not required unless you are doing DOT work, it gives extra strength above what is needed. I always follow the advice of experts I am paying and agree with your decision to go with advice of your contractor, however my suggestion has very little in costs and no downside associated with it and gives you some time to recharge. I enjoy your videos very much thanks for taking time to respond. Ray

You guys and gals have done a great job with getting ready for the concrete. Doing that work really makes you appreciate the people that do it for a living. Too bad that the battery powered tool to tie the rebar is so expensive. Would be nice if you could rent one. I invested in a laser measuring tool for some of my projects. I wish I would have bought it a long time ago. If you don't have one, you might look into getting one. It really helps to get big projects square. Makes it really easy to see what happens if you move this side a little bit that way without having to actually move the string. Easy to do the 3-4-5 right triangle to make sure that your corners are 90°. Thanks for bringing us along on the journey. Looking forward to the concrete pour.

Thanks, Mike! The short wires with the loops and the twirly tier is a big step up from spools of wire. The battery powered tool to tie rebar would just make us spoiled! 🤣 The laser tool that you are describing sounds like it would be super helpful. We are sharing the concrete pour in our next video! Thanks for always watching! 😊

So sorry about that! I am not sure why the sound is not working well for you. Is it this way on other videos of ours? I tried adding cc for this video and for some reason it's not working. I'll look further into it. Again, I'm sorry about that.

@ourdreaminthewoods the auto-tying machine! Ha! We have a spiral operated one. You pull and it ties. That isn't too bad. But we have to do a lot. Like. A lot.
