Say what you want about her, but this kid has guts and healthy self-esteem galore! Honestly, how many 13-year-olds could deal with the hate directed her way? How many adults could deal with that, let alone a tween. Most would melt down and we'd be reading about their suicide. Yes, Friday was a terrible song and she sounded nasally and off-key. However, that was mostly due to the bad producing and the fact that her body was going through puberty, which effects one's voice. How many of us sound spectacular while we're going through that? She didn't give up. She didn't give into the hate. She didn't whine and cry and go hide under a rock. Instead, she buckled down and came back with a new song. Her new song, Saturday is even better. She might not be the greatest singer or performer, but she a damn good role model for young girls who may be facing adversity. She doesn't give up and sends the message that you can perverse even when people are doing their damnedest to destroy you. She stays positive, doesn't take it personally, and keeps fighting. No matter what you may think about her singing, there is no denying that she's one hell of a tough kid and deserves respect for that, if for no other reason.

I think I remember watching this interview when it came out. I’m Rebecca’s age, and I remember feeling actual disgust towards her for her positivity in spite of everything. Like she deserved to feel bad about her work?? What the hell I can see now it was childish insecurity that brought that out of me and so many others. She’s incredible for how much she has persevered and come into her own. Especially now, she has bloomed into a person who knows her worth, and is inspirationally unafraid of being “BIG”. She went through hell to get there. She’s strong and she is a great example of resilience in spite of shitstorms of cyberbullying
