I'm late to the party but I won't vilify her family for that. I knew there would be comments doing so and while it's natural to think that way because we're outsiders, but I can see the other side. I wouldn't believe my brother in law, husband, son in law or brother would do that. They don't want to believe that their daughter is dead and can you blame them? While I fully believe Florian is involved, or at least knows more than he's saying, there's still a possibility that he's innocent. We also need to keep in mind that we only know what her family is saying publicly; not their private thoughts. I personally know grandparents who strongly dislike their children's spouses but hold their tongues because they want to see their grandchildren.

@@michelleprieur1 A family friend murdered his girlfriend in an alley in front of their child. Nicest guy you’d ever meet, he was at our house all the time when I was younger. ANYONE can be a murderer, I can understand her parents not wanting to believe it, but there is a difference between supporting someone under suspicion and waiting for the evidence to come out. If they sat back and waited for the evidence, I’d understand where they were coming from, but that is not what they’re doing.

@@jeanbastien9424 I didn't dispute in any way that anyone can be a murderer. Not what I said. I'm fully aware that anyone CAN be. I'm not clear on what you're referring to as far as the parents "didn't sit back and wait for evidence". What else were they supposed to do? They have every right to support their son in law. As far as evidence itself, unless I missed something, there isn't any physical evidence that she's dead and he killed her. If there was, he'd be in jail and he isn't. Therefore, your blaming them for that is illogical. If you're criticizing them for supporting him publicly before any evidence was found, so what? Are you telling me that you would automatically believe your husband/brother/son in law killed your loved one BEFORE there was evidence? I sincerely hope that you reevaluate your relationships and lay off crime videos.

The family does not want to believe that Florian could have done that to her. Guess what? Neither did my family when my step father was arrested after molesting our neighbor as a child. He had been molesting me for years. They had no idea. He put on a fake persona and was the image of perfect devoted father and neighbor and family member. He was a monster in private to me. I was a child. He took me into the woods once to kill me and i had to negotiate for my own life as a 9 year old. So, family, please protect your children especially if they might be dead, and not the family or friends no matter how “nice” they have always been to You. And remember- drug trafficking is better than getting charged for homicide and having an entire family and public turn against you. If i were about to get caught, i would say it was for drugs too and not because i did in fact kill my niece.

Yeah, I'm from Germany and I believe it was in the podcast, where the speaker for the attorney's office actually said: "From their point of view, she never left the house alive that day" because "there's evidence of a homicide" within the home. And a police officer is actually on a recording stating that "everyone knows who's done it - or thinks they know - but there's just not enough..." (evidence, I'd assume). I think this is, unfortunately, one of those tragic cases, where they know exactly it was the brother-in-law, they just don't have enough physical evidence to actually prove it in court.

@@TheStar798 Not too much that hasn't been mentioned here as well, at least that comes to mind right now. Aside from those statements, of course, which I do think are very telling. Especially since things do really work a whole lot different here than in the US. Much more hush-hush. Sure, the media is still the media, but the actual police/law side of things is indeed kept very close to the vest. We don't have all those recordings (suspect interviews, trial, even 911 calls), statements and so on publicly available. We don't even usually get the full name (first name and initial of the last name only) of a suspect or their picture (blurred out in newspapers) until they are legally convicted. You know, because until then they are technically innocent people with a right to privacy. So for the speaker of the attorney's office to come out and say this, so clearly - when there hasn't been a conviction - that's a huge deal.
@TheStar798
@TheStar798 3 жыл бұрын
@@xNeariax That's actually really interesting - and provides context. The authorities clearly have SOME kind of proof that it's Florian; I imagine they're hoping to find the remains before pressing forward with a Prosecution. Great insight, thanks @xNearix! 👍🏽

@@TheStar798 You're welcome. And personally I think - and this is just my theory - they have definitely found something (like large traces of blood inside the house or something similar), if they're so confidently stating that there's "signs of a homicide" inside the home. I just think it's - apparently - not enough for a conviction or to link Florian himself to it directly. After all, the sister lives there too, and if they can't prove which one of them caused it without a reasonable doubt, then that's a big problem. Every defence attorney is just gonna argue "could've been her just as well". I think in that sense, the most helpful thing about having the body would be that as well. The hope that maybe there's evidence on it (DNA) that links him directly to it and can't have gotten there just by them "existing in the same house for a night". Otherwise, like in the US, you can have a murder trial without the body - but obviously the rest of the evidence needs to be quite solid.

There would be NO reason for someone to travel all the way to Poland for a drug deal because Berlin has enough drug dealers as is. Florian's stories just have way too many holes in them. The fact the he would hide the drug information from authorities because he's scared of a conviction when a murder charge would be way worse doesn't make any sense either. I'm half German, half Scottish, and just listening to the German podcast. I'll translate a few things Danielle was unsure of, and maybe a few important details as I go along. I might update this post. From experience, German police don't share a lot. They want to protect the investigations and trials later on. If you speak German and listen to the podcast, too - please feel free to add what I might have missed! Part 1: 1. The way from Rebecca's home to her school takes about 20 minutes. A public bus takes her straight there. 2. In an interview with a forensics guy, he said the police is 100% sure who the killer is. He said "Everybody knows". So they might really keep the most important evidence to themselves. 3. Rebecca's last message with the selfie was received by her friend at 8.30 AM that morning, and sent shortly before. 4. Florian was on the phone with R.'s mother on 8.25 AM, saying she was no longer in his living room. So that checks out with her having left for school. Knowing point 3, he basically would have had no time to kill her. 5. According to a few policemen, Florian was watching porn before he went to bed. Maybe that's why he didn't want to tell he didn't sleep right away. Part 2: 1. Police did not question neighbours. They call all theories saying she left the house alive that morning "conspiracy theories". 2. The whole episode is about a few of the 1000+ sightings of R that morning and the evening before. They usually specifically remember all details police had released about her clothes and the blanket. Nothing of value, though. Part 3: Danielle basically told everything. Interviews with her friends. Nothing too important here. R seemed to be depressed before she disappeared.

Yep it sounds a likely situation that Florian did something untoward. It’s pretty late/early for a married man to get home after a big night out (5:45) and then not go straight to bed. If he was still under the influence and home alone with a young attractive girl it feels like potential for a dodgy to me. I’m wondering if she felt uncomfortable with Florian hence why she got ready to leave early, she goes to bus stop and then Florian goes and grabs her to stop her talking. She may not necessarily sent the selfie herself.

I’m not finished with the video yet, but a theory that came to mind... I wonder if Florian tried a sexual advance on Rebecca when he got home and she wanted to leave early because of this. Thus, she was packing up and getting ready to go earlier than usual, when she sent the selfie to her friend in her jacket. Maybe Florian was worried she would say something and he didn’t want that to happen and took action to ensure no one knew

I'm from Germany and wanted to point put some misinformation. 1st In Germany schoolbusses aren't quite a thing, there are only public busses that sometimes drive to whatever school and most older students take other busses or trains because the ones driving to school are usually filled with younger students. (Quite useless but whatever) 2nd the school didn't call her parents, her sister was waiting for rebecca because she said she'll be back at 4 and they wanted to go to some sort of park, as her mom and sister couldn't reach her they called her teacher ( in Germany every class until mostly 10th grade have 1 or 2 teachers that are responsible for that class), her teacher said that she wasn't at school at all. Before they called her teacher they waited a bit more because they thought that she was just losing track of time.

Feel like it could definitely be a possibility that Florian himself could have been the Max account on IG catfishing her as a young man until he acted in private, and then deleted the account after he killed her. I live in Germany and I saw the news programme when the father said "We all know what Florian is hiding, but he needs to come clean on his own..." I was just baffled. Like... your CHILD is missing. So what ever you might know about that man - TELL IT!!! Maybe not on the news but to the police... but just say it. Even if he has been trafficking drugs or stolen goods or whatever. What is that in relation to your own child's life? And if it proves that he did not do it, then it will take him off the radar and police will have an easier time finding who really did it, because they ruled him out... But standing there, sort of saying "I know something, I'm not going to tell" was really hard to watch. It gave me a feeling, he knew it was not about finding her alive... it felt like he thought "it is too late to save one daughter, so just not ruin the marriage of the second one"

I'm from Germany and I think I remember someone saying that they chose the highly edited foto to create a bigger awareness, because of how beautiful and "instagrammable" rebecca looks in said photograph. The person said it's more likely people keep looking for a person's who's considered beautiful than an average looking teenage girl. Honestly, I can't remember who said it, if it was a member of her family or someone from the police. But I remember how angry I was when I heard about it, because it doesn't make any sense to share a picture of a person that doesn't like her natural appearance. I would've never recognized Rebecca as the missing girl even when she would've been standing right in front of me.

@Noeleen Barry you have to consider all the possibilities! the family could all be involved with drugs, things can all be hidden behind closed doors or kept behind closed doors. grooming can happen to people and manipulation and fear can keep them quiet. With claims that she was clearly dealing with some mental health problems as she allegedly didn't feel like she had purpose in life. She is the most vulnerable target for groomers or abusers. They have access to unlimited children even if you think they are "safe" in their homes. But what teenager doesn't own a device with access to the internet these days? Its a playground for these predators and a place to improve their tactics and with anonymity on the internet it helps them avoid any consequences

Hey! So I am from Europe and I thought I should add a few more additional things that might be important. First of all, we have something called the Schengen Area that consist of 26 European countries. If you are from a country that is part of the Schengen Area and you travel to another Schengen Area country, all you need is your ID card (you dont need a passport!!). There is no or very little border control between the Schengen Area countries, you can pretty much travel freely. Germany is part of this Area, so it is very easy to travel to another European country without anyone checking on you if you are a German citizen. (If you Google ‘Schengen Area’ you can find how it exactly works in more detail) Also, school buses are not a thing in Europe (or very very rare). Public transport is very well developed in most big cities (as Berlin) and cheep for students, you can get basically anywhere using it, thats why we dont need school buses, people use public transport to get to work/school/etc. Most buses come every 5-15 minutes, especially in the morning, but it’s usually crowded because everyone leave for work/school... So my point is if there was no CCTV on that particular route she took to school, there is really no way of telling if she was there that day or not unfortunately. Thank you Danelle for covering this case, you did an amazing job! I am a BTS fan myself, so this case is pretty close to my heart. I remember when the news broke out of her dissappearance, we tried to raise awareness and spread the word for weeks on every social media in the fandom. Feb 18 is hobi’s birthday, and in kpop community every fandom celebrate the idol’s birthday every year. so becci probably goes to celebrate that day, thats explain why she wear bts hoodie, her polaroid cam where she pics venue and she have her purple blanket where the bts fandom color. Hope she is safe, army are praying for her. 💜

As a huge BTS fan myself, this case is heartbreaking for many reasons but the camera + blanket might have indeed been to take photos to celebrate the member's birthday. BTS fans are extremely passionate about the band and post things like that on social media all the time. Purple is the color associated with the fandom so that checks out with the blanket. I also know the German fan community on social media tried to spread her story when it happened. I hope she is found soon, my german is pretty rusty but I'd love to learn more about this case!

I'm not an Army, but in kpop we usualy do things like this not only for birthdays, for 'selca days' too, so it's logical for me, especially she took her BTS merch too and she had a large following so publishing a selca for his birthday could be a natural for her since she didn't hide her love for them

Also the part with her mental health makes sense to me, since sadly a lot of ARMYs actually struggle and seek a safe space in the music and community. It is kind of bad that germany has a quite small fanbase compared to countries like the US. Because if she wore the hoodie and the unedited pictures had come out fast enoigh I bet an ARMY would have seen her if she ran away on her own. Like every second time I walk around in my BTS merch strangers just comment on it so someone should have seen her. And because many fans from Germany knew about this case from early on I think she probably did not ran away.

Some info on the party! He worked as a chef at a hotel restaurant, so it is likely that his regular work hours were something like 4pm to 1am anyway and every day is a work day in that industry (so doesn't really matter what day they hold it). In my experience (I'm German and have worked at a restaurant) it is very common to go out drinking after work with your co-workers even on a regular day and this was an occasion, so I don't think it's too weird that he got home so early in the morning and drunk. The fact that it was a christmas party also seems pretty normal to me bc the restaurant I worked at did the same because december is the busiest month because everyone else is celebrating their christmas parties at your place of work, so you do a belated christmas party in the slow months January or February. We've even had other people (from completely different industries) hold their belated christmas parties at the restaurant in like March just because everywhere is booked and/or more expensive in December. The guy is sketchy as hell but the party isn't too weird in my opinion. Especially again, if we assume he worked the evening shift because then even if he had to work on the monday, he'd probably only have to go into work at around 4 to 5 pm.

The fact that the police changed the investigation from a missing person to a homicide immediately after investigating the sister's house and has dismissed all other scenarios ever since makes me think they found some concrete evidence in there Which makes it kind of weird that the family does not even slightly question the innocence of an in law and fully supports him no matter what. Not necessarily believe in his guilt, but maybe be a bit skeptical. I wonder if maybe the sister is somehow involved. Like Rebecca was in some sort of physical altercation with Florian for any reason, the sister got in the middle to calm things down and accidentally hurt her with no bad intention. The husband then takes the responsibility of hiding the body and covering for her while she goes to work and the family supports him when police turns into him. If her death was truly an accident I could understand why they wouldn't want to lose yet another family member to prison. Her phone was used afterwards but from my understanding it was from the home's wi-fi so I'm not sure this says much about her well-being at the time. Of course this is all pure speculation.

If he wasn't real, and she had toxic friends it could be a cruel joke that they might have pulled to get sensitive informations they could use to bully her even more?

@@melaniek.8563 False. The police got the picture from Rebecca's Instagram account, not her family. Her mom later stated that she hadn't even seen the picture before it started being used by the media. They did this because her mom said Rebecca had recently gotten a haircut (shoulder length + bangs) and that she didn't have current photos of what she looked like with the new haircut with her on her phone, only polaroids at home. A police woman then asked if it would be okay to use a more recent picture off Instagram if she could fine one that's suitable before the family would be back to bring the polaroids.

Unless I️ heard wrong, the Max profile was deleted before her disappearance had been announced to the media. If Max is a real person, he would have had no idea she was missing unless he was somehow responsible. I️ do however think it’s very possible Florian WAS Max catfishing her. If he was attracted to her he could have done it to pretend he was in a relationship with her and when that wasn’t enough he assaulted and killed her, or he did it so that once she got close to “Max” he could tell her in person that he WAS Max and in an effort to make her accept his advances. If he was still drunk from the Christmas party, he may have told her, and then killed her when she didn’t reciprocate his feelings. If he told her while he was drunk that he’d been Max this entire time and she threatened to tell her sister that’s motive enough right there.

@Noeleen Barry drug dealers are often addicts who have to turn to dealing to feed their own addiction. Addiction is a sickness, it’s a disease and you’re lumping addicts in with murders. The That’s incredibly black and white, and unfortunately when it comes to drug use and addiction, there is a whole lot of gray areas. People struggling with drug addiction need detox, treatment and most importantly a strong support system in place for when they’re able to return to society, not jail cells and prison sentences. (Just to clarify, I’m talking about people with non violent drug offenses. If you’re robbing or hurting people to get your drugs or you’re selling drugs to a minor, driving drunk and hurt someone etc, you need to pay your debts to society and then attend detox and rehab)

a bit of an explanation about WhatsApp: So, when you text someone on WA, the text will show one check mark to let you know the text was successfully sent, then a second check mark will show when the other person receives the text even if they do not open it, for example if you do not have wifi or data on your phone, the person who sent you the text will see one check mark and when you connect your phone to wifi or data you will see the second check mark. When you open the chat, the person who sent you the text will see the two check marks turn blue (so they know you read the text) on WA you have one option where you can see when was the last time someone was on WA, but you are able to turn off this two options. In her case, she may have the "blue" option turned off but the "receveived" check mark can not be turned off so this means that if the second check mark is showing her phone was on and with wifi connection. I remember as ARMY we were trying to help spread awareness for this girl’s disappearance on twitter & across many social media platforms. it’s heartbreaking that she still hasn’t been found. My belief is that she may have been planning to go to a cupsleeve event or take pictures or something similar for J-Hope’s birthday either in the morning or sometime that day, and thus asked to stay at her sister’s house bc it would’ve been easier for her to go where she wanted without her mom questioning or stopping her. But I also think Florian who had come back from a party and ended up home alone with her saw this as an opportunity to do something to her and as much as I am hoping that this was a runaway case where she could be okay and safe somewhere, Florian changing his story and searching for a ring (????) randomly around the same time she was missing is highly suspicious. It’s also suspect to cite a lesser crime as reasoning for not telling the whole truth about driving far out twice at such convenient times, I just don’t buy it. And pretty sure I’ve seen others relay that they did find something incriminating in the trunk or the house but just not enough of a sample to use against him? Could be wrong though. As far as I remember Max was proven to have had an alibi & the neighbor is believed to have mixed up the date of when they saw her bc it wasn’t raining like they said it was... Regardless, I always keep this girl in my thoughts & glad her story hasn’t lost traction.

I'm from Germany and I'm pretty sure Florian is the reason she's missing or even dead. If he's a part of drug trafficking, there's a huge chance he/someone did something to her because of this. I don't think she left by herself.

Thank you so so much for covering this case and giving it international attention. As a German subscriber of yours who’s very interested in the cases you cover it makes me happy to see that you also cover cases like this. When Rebecca disappeared the media was full of information on her disappearing and it makes me so sad that this case is still not solved. I really hope the family will get closure in the near future

I almost spilled my coffee when I saw Rebecca's name in the title. I feel like even in Germany media coverage on her case has decreased substentially. I feel like People here have either lost interest in her case or forgot about it which is sad because at the end of the day she is a real human being and not the protagonist of a crime novel. I think many, including myself, sometimes forget that. Seeing Danelle talking about Rebecca's case in the thoughtful and empathetic way she covers every case gives me so much hope. Becci will not be forgotten!! :) Thank you Danelle and liebe Grüße aus Deutschland

and also the family members and friends etc who always say "he could never kill anyone he is such a nice guy".. no one wants to be associated with a murderer, but these kind of people need to stop this bullshit because they always hinder investigations.

The fact that she disappeared with the blanket is what causes pause for me... I don't see why she would take her blanket with her... It's not like she couldn't get it from her sister's house after school being that they lived so close...

Sorry for my English but I'm from Austria: It wasn't a regular blanket (like for sleeping).. It was more like a bedspread/ sort of cuddle blanket which you will use on the couch.

Maybe she took It with her for sitting in it.. Or maybe the sister's husband used It for hiding the body... I still hope that she's still alive.

My daughter is in high school here in the US. I can’t count the amount of kids I’ve seen at her school wrapped in a blanket. I don’t get it, but It doesn’t seem unusual to me.

It wasn't a full-size blanket but a smaller "snuggle blanket". I believe her mother said it wasn't unusual for her to take the blanket with her to sit on it.

I'm from another German speaking country. Update - Max was in her age. They found him and checked his alibi. He is 100% innocent. He deleted his profile because he got scared when he heard that she went missing. In a lot of the stories I read the neighbor doesn't get away trustworthy. Here most of the people are frustrated about her parents and sure that Florian did it and her sister helped him cover it up (the sister thing is my opinion).

it was speculated by her mother she might have taken the blanket as a background for videos or pictures. Sometimes she did that with friends. 😊🇩🇪 Febuary in Berlin is the worst time for a picknick, even to sit outside.

Poor girl. I remember in my late teens having those same expectations and no direction, not being sure what I wanted to do after graduation. It's a heavy feeling. I hope she's okay and if not I hope everyone gets answers especially her loved ones.

I heard “Florian from Berlin” and then I knew it was him. Also the driving to Poland; the only reason you drive from Berlin to Poland is to kidnap someone, buy illegal fireworks, or get cheap cigarettes.

@@TinyTotPropShopright! as soon as Danelle mentioned this Max guy that immediately what I thought of and I was kinda surprised she didn't bring it up tbh. Also I feel like Rebecca(sorry if thats not how its spelled) got up and got dressed so early so she could get out of that house were he was, and he followed her to the bus stop some how managed to get her back to the house and killed her. But obviously this is just speculation and might be off because I also don't speak German so I could be completely off with facts I dont have🤷‍♀️

finally seeing a international true crime youtuber cover this case. Its need more media attention just like alissa turney and maybe we can get somebody (my guess is the sisters husband) arrested. It seems very likely that the family knows and protect him.
