I've set a challenge of rebuilding the Barn-find GTV as my new daily driver in 1 month. This is the first episode in the series covering the full rebuild of the 1970 1750 GTV I pulled out of a shed in March.

Jethro. I’ve been dropping in on your videos for a while now. When I was a teenager in the 70s there was a local garage who had some problem cars that they cut their losses on. One was a Chrysler 300 four door in green with green tinted glass. The other was a white 1750 GTV, which had a black roof. Engines on both failed. I would just go and sit in it and imagine what it would be like to drive it. Unfortunately being partially sighted I’ve never been able to get a license, but I still have a soft spot for Alfas’ and especially the GTVs’.’

Wonderful videos Jethro, great Job! I have a 71 GTV and I think I'm going to do a complete restoration, I like the idea of trying to get it all just right. I think you should do the same, these cars really deserve it. One suggestion for a video is if you could address any issues or tips regarding upgrading the wiring/fuses etc... Cheers and keep at it!

Nice find - a rust-free Alpha. Leave engine compartment as is... it's only original once and, personally, I like the "patina." Gotta admit... been watching your channel for a year now and haven't seen you put any car back together again. Remember, the easiest things to do during a restoration are 1) the Purchase 2) the Disassembly. You're obviously good at 1 & 2, but I'm looking forward to the manhood/talent challenges of 3-5)... 3) parts acquisition without bankruptcy, 4) reassembly without guttural screaming/wrench throwing/small fires and 5) testing roadworthiness (does it start, stop, steer, etc). Three thru 5 are the biggest obstacles... are you ready?

Yeah it will be a challenge to have a whole bunch of cars in assembly together, but I'm looking forward to it.

Great concept. I love the idea of getting it going as a rat rod. I should have done something like that with one of mine. I will be watching this with interest. Also I would probably leave the yellow and orange as it is. It all has patina and I think it works with this build. If you can leave the engine in there, it is another thing you don't need to worry about right now.
@JethroBronner

The 2000 that is in it at the moment is seized.... So it has to come out. Plus I want the original engine back in it.

Ah, ok I see the dilemma. Unless you know what colour you are going to paint the car, even if you primer the engine bay you have to take the engine out again to do the final paint anyway, my vote is to leave it the way it is for now and spend that time on other things. Looking forward to seeing it either way.

That's a great concept; hope to see you pull it off. I'm envious of the work space you have. I've stuff stacked on top of stuff. Too many protects at my place. Great news on the rest. I hope you can find the bandwidth to put out several in a week. One a week for a month is only 4 clips-pretty spotty for the all the work that goes into it. Also-a suggestion: please give us an idea of the number of hours it took you for each section-like -11 hours for the front suspension and 14 for the rear etc. Gives us weekend warriors something to track against. Great series. looking forward to seeing the whole project

Great project! I'd suggest doing the engine bay and the inside of the trunk in the original yellow, keep the outside in rusty primer. Maybe clearcoat the outside. That way you can always complete the car at a later date with reasonable effort, or enjoy as is.
@JethroBronner

I will preserve as much of the original paint as I can. I will keep the primer on the outside, maybe a future owner can paint it and fully restore it one day, but for now I just want a little fun.

Just found your channel this evening. I noticed your really good video quality, but it also made me notice the comparatively poor audio quality. I highly recommend investing in a digital audio recorder with a lapel mic. I can't overstate how big an improvement it will be. Anyhow, very interesting project, curious to see how it turns out.

Hi. I've recently been looking Into the gtv. I see you are in south africa, which I think is great. Is there any way I could have a chat with you regarding parts. Where you source it all from. I'm also south african and would like to find some parts. Hope we'll be able to chat. Thanx...

Armand Roos Hi Armand. I source most of my parts from classicalfa.com. There are some good suppliers locally too, Auto Azzuri in Cape Town and AK Classics in Johannesburg. I also pick up 2nd hand stuff when I come across it and recondition quite a lot.

Jethro Bronner. Thanx for the reply. I'll have a chat with my uncle. Seeing he's the one that motivated me to go into the GTV project. I haven't started seeing that it's my uncle's car. He's full on into Alfa since school. I'm trying to get him to get back into the swing of restoring his 1974 GTV 2.0 automatic. It's basically in all round good condition. Disassembled a bit more than your beautiful barn find. There is more to talk about. But is there a better way of coms either than youtube. I'm in CPT and would like to get some Coment later on as we start our project. Thanx...

I don’t see much worth keeping on the outside of the car and seeing as it’s going to need paint then I’d go original all the way. Leave the engine bay as it is, get rid of the orange (someone else’s ideas) and then get it back to original.
@JethroBronner

that is not a very good idea. If you want it looking good and keep looking good you wetblast the aluminium and then protect it with ACF-50 spray. Paint will start to peel off with the heat cycles...
