German style PTO shafts have an inner profile tube that is either 'Lemon Shape' or 'Star Shape'. Most Italian style PTO shafts have a special 'Triangle Shape' inner profile tube that can only be oriented in one direction.

My Land Pride slip clutch calls for a 1/8” gap between the two plates where the Bellvile washer is, so an actual torque value on the nuts wouldn’t have any purpose.

Thank you Stephen , for explaining what to watch for when assembling and working on the clutch-I have an old 606 bush hog that I’m trying to fix the slip clutch on - the John Deere place couldn’t get all the parts for it- I took the metal plates to a machine shop and they resurfaced the plates as well as straightend the drive shaft for me

I have done this work myself several years ago and I’ve also on an older bush hog taken and welded the clutches when it was Christmas time and our dealerships here were all closed from December 12-January -12 yes an entire month without anyway of getting parts and we were in bad need of our bush hog. And we have also used Chevy 3/4 ton tierod ends for our 4020 and our 1530 John Deere tractor tie rod ends they work perfectly when you measure them and your stock ones to see where you need to cut and weld the Chevy 70s thru mid 80s tie rods in place believe me the price difference is well worth it a stock John Deere one was in 2001 $200 and the Chevy one $20-30 plus its grease able

Did u smoke the clutch before u set it up for service on the mower it will settle in so it will slip when its supposed to.

I did not know you are a John Deere mechanic. I have a 4100 That I do all the work on and I'm not a tractor mechanic. But I just tear into it and figure it out. I have a JD dealer 2 miles from my house, But they have screwed me so many times I don't take my equipment to them any more. After they did some work in my front diff (4x4) instead of putting new gear oil they put used diesel motor oil in it and charged me 1200 dollars for replacing 1 bearing. and I got it back home it was making a bad metal to metal sound. I pulled it in my shop and drained the used motor oil and pulled it a part and they did not put in the bearing that they charged me 1200 dollars for.

You’re actually setting the gap on those. Yours should be .276”. I have the same unit. Specs and instructions are available in the operators manual. Free on the JD website.

My MX10 manual gives a gap measurement at each bolt for the plates.

On our LandPride, there is no torque spec for the slip clutch bolts. You’re supposed to measure the length of nut and threads protruding through that nut., I think 😂

Deere is 1/4 inch gap between clutches per service advisor

Güdentite is the same spec I use on the German made equipment I use.

YOU FOUND OUT WHAT ALOT ALREADY KNOW! I just bought a new tractor last yr. the main reason I didn't even look at JD is that reason you found ! They will not cooperate with repairing your own tractor! I will not support anyone like that!

I get that manufacturers want the business. Yet if they would spend a little time on good will there is the greater opportunity to make some money. I have the same issue. Occasionally I will get the little help I asked for..
