Hey, watching your videos made me want to try miniature casting. I've seen tapping the mold helps get rid of airbubbles. Do you think taking the vibrating motor out of a console controller or mobile phone, connecting it with a battery and attaching it to your mold may get a better result? May take some tweaking so the vibrations arent so strong

In short - yes you can ! But ONLY for your own private use, for your own armies, with the odd occasional gift for a friend. What you CANNOT do is make full copies of copyrighted characters who's registered trademark mean these are the design property of someone else, e.g. Privateer Press, Flames of War, Mantic, Games Workshop, GameZone Miniatures etc. etc. I have used moulds to make purity seals, Sisters of Battle Fleur d Lyes for tank iconography, shoulder pad emblems, cannons, lasers, and also parts that gave broken off. I hope this makes things a little clearer for you.

awesome, thank you got a few questions: 1. is it possible to reuse the mold once used ? I figure that the resin dries out and connects enough with the parts that no residue stays behind ? (this goes for all modls seen on your channel... ) 2. could you give a rough estimate on how many molds and parts you can make from the available volumes of silicone and resin? because it looks like you emptied the silcone component bottle, yet rarely used up any resin components... thanks in advance

@MiniatureHobbyist
@MiniatureHobbyist 3 жыл бұрын
Not sure exactly what that looks like, 1 part moulds are great for something with a flat base and a simple design that can be pulled out of a 1 piece mould. If you think it cant be pulled from the mould then a 2 piece mould is needed =)

Just to clarify, as you didn't directly state it in the video: was using plastercine as a base was a mistake? What are you gluing the parts to? What do you do if the part does not have a fat side that can be easily glued down (I would have filled it with plastercine)?
@MiniatureHobbyist
@MiniatureHobbyist 3 жыл бұрын
I like to show different ways of accomplishing the same thing, that way if someone cant get plasticene but can get foam board they can use that instead. If a pice doesnt have a flat side then you need to do a 2 part mould. I do have a video of a 2 part mould on my channel =)
