I've been asked "are you sending them back or offering to buy?" I'm keeping all three for a short while because there are other tests to do and another video to make, comparing at least one against a Chinese version which won a Eurobike 2023 Award. I offered to return them but was told they'll be scrapped, they can't be re-used. So once I've finished with reviews and videos I'll run a giveaway among channel members. They already support my channel, giveaways are not part of the deal, so I'm not receiving a benefit in kind.

I bought an electric pump from Amazon, £27.00. Probably the size of the biggest Fumpa tbh. It charges from empty to full in 90 mins. I pumped up 6 x 700c x45mm gravel tyres, to 45psi, 2x 29 ers 2.6" to 40 psi and 2 road tyres to 90 psi and still had approximately 25% battery left. Its a bit big, but fairly light, fits easily into a top tube bag, and you can set the psi and press start, and it stops at desired psi. I agree with you, re carrying a hand pump too, but for speed and ease, its a no brainer 👍

Up until Fumpa stopped distributing in the Canadian market, the Fumpa was a very popular item that customers would buy often in my shop. The reason why a Fumpa is what I ride with is because I run a tubeless wheelset. I dare you to try and use a hand pump to re seat a tubeless tire if it has gone flat and become unseated. C02 is often not what you want with a tubeless set up either, most of the time you add too much air too quickly and simply watch all your sealant scream out of you tire without sealing up the puncture. The Fumpa offers you constant air pressure at a lower pressure, ideal for a tubeless set up. I love my Fumpa and wish they would rethink distributing their products into the Canadian market, I know I would sell them again in my shop. Great video as usual, I really enjoy your channel. Thank you.

Thanks for that Brian - some really excellent points. I have one bike set up tubeless and if it came off the rim I'd have to put in a tube, I really struggle with tubeless. Mind, I thought CO2 was good precisely because it gave a blast - people tell me I should seat the bead using CO2. Damn, this is confusing...

Definitely look great for triathlon race mornings - taking a track pump to a transition is total PITA and, depending on the race, nowhere to store after use unless you're happy to leave it at the side and hope it's not lifted by someone. (For those who don't know - big races like Ironmans, the bike is racked the day before. Latex tubes (most efficient set up, and I'm not spending £2-3k on tubeless tri aero wheels) leak down over the course of a day / night and need to be topped up on race morning)
@alwaysanotheradventure
@alwaysanotheradventure Ай бұрын
Absolutely! Split transitions are worst. I ended up buying a mini track pump to store in the White bag and hoped it wouldn't tear the plastic. This would be much better.

Another great review. Almost got me thinking of buying one of the larger ones to keep in the car. One thing I’d be interested in knowing is how much charge it still has if you put it away for a month and then pull it out to inflate a tyre … i find some devices leak power and so when you need them the most, you find the battery has slowly gone flat and they’re useless.

I’ve used the large one for years. Great for checking pressure b4 leaving home every ride. Also very handy when on multi-day (supported) tours or abroad so I don’t have to pack my big Track Pump. I never carry one on an actual ride. I prefer the iPump Twist on the light Road Bike and the iPump Floor in my Winter Bike which always has the Tailfin on the back.

I have had the full size fumpa for a while. I don’t generally carry it on rides, and actually I don’t really use it much at all day to day. But for traveling, I think it’s an incredibly handy device. Word of caution however. If you don’t use one of the extension options, the valve stem will get VERY hot when inflating. If you use TPU tubes, it’s plenty hot enough to deform the stem completely (learned that the hard way). Even for regular metal stems, I worry it’s hot enough to damage seals on a removable valve core. For this reason, I use the small elbow extension. I will also say, on mine the pressure gauge started giving nonsense readings. I sent it back to Fumpa for repair. Turned out a module on the internal board came loose. They fixed for free, and only charged a small fee for return shipping. Perhaps a fluke. I’m hoping the thing will be more robust going forward. But now I will be traveling with a small travel size pump as a backup.

So many options and not just electric portable inflators like these. An out and back ride for an hour or so, nano, co2, mini pump and a tube. Mixed terrain of longer distance then a decent pump, spare tube and a patch kit. A multi day adventure, decent pump, 2 tubes and a patch kit. I like to keep it simple.

I've used a Ryobi electric pump for years. It runs on the same batteries as my cordless drill. I had to add a presta adapter as it was made for Schrader only. It's worked well for home or to bring along in the car when traveling. However it's far too heavy and bulky to carry on the bike.

I have a similar pump to the large version and use it as my everyday pump. I use it to charge my boost cylinder for seating tubeless tires. And there is my problem with the smaller portable pumps. They are fine for top ups, but they won't reseat a tubeless tyre. For most people that need would be an extreme rarity, but my Rose RThirty wheels shed the tyres off the bead seat whenever they go flat (it's a PITA) so I'll have to stick with CO2.

Thanks John - that’s the second comment about the big one being good to reseat tubeless.

Also, for cyclists with arm or shoulder mobility problems who run tubeless, these electric pumps will be better than using co2 as that doesn't mix well with sealant.

I have had an earlier model of the full size Fumpa for about 3.5 years - that model came with the short extender hose as standard. I've used it extensively for my time trial wheels for which track pumps are rather awkward to use - so another use-case to consider. I've been very impressed with it, but lately I think the battery has lost some capacity. Maybe I should open it up and see if the battery could be replaced?

30 years ago: long frame pump. Every 5 years add a new and increasingly smaller pump to pump collection. Include added c02 inflators to the mix. And at some point, I've had issues with each of them, lol. If the progression of teck predicts anything, it's that soon I'll be riding with a pump, an inflator, and an electric mini pump. Seriously thought, I can see the usefullness for bike trips with air travel. With battery tech rapidly evolving, I don't think it too hard to anticipate smaller versions with increased battery time. Who knows where it will be in 5 or 10 years.

To be honest it’s just yet another thing to make sure you’ve charged and if you forget to your gubbed! I’m happy to stick with my Lezyne CNC digital drive🎉 track pump doesn’t take up that much room in the car or van and as I have the neo version it looks a work of art in the bike room. I carry the matching Lezyne Pocket drive pro for all my bikes as it fits in the smallest of tool packs and even though I have a busted hand that doesn’t work right I’ve not had a problem using either to pump up my tubeless road or gravel tyres. I don’t think I could trust something rechargeable and it defeats the purpose of small to carry both.

Perhaps they would be useful for flying with a bike and inflating after unpacking, eg the proverbial week in Majorca, Costa Blanca or Canaries. I've found that you can fly with a couple of Co2 cartridges (Jet2) but it's a bit hit and miss, you've used up your cartridges and have to seek more for your rides, and there are the environmental issues. The medium or large would be great and easier to fit in a bike box or luggage than a trackpump.

lol you are flying thousands of miles for pleasure and you are concerned by a tiny co2 cartridge that hopefully you will never use? Anyway my exerience so far is that rentals in such destinations are very high quality and the cost is comparable to paying for hte extra bike luggage so I just don't bother hauling and rent locally the 3 or so times that I used it.
@alwaysanotheradventure
@alwaysanotheradventure 11 ай бұрын
@@lechprotean I’m more concerned that my bike box will be taken off the flight because some airlines won’t transport the cartridges. Renting locally is great if you can find the bike you want for the time you want. For last year’s Torino Nice I had to take my own. And I still prefer a pump.

@PaoloLuraschi 10 ай бұрын
@@alwaysanotheradventure Airline regulations are a not so clear about CO2 cartridges. For sure the electric battery pump cannot be transported with the bike in the checked baggage, you have to put it on the carry-on baggage. Regarding the environmental issues ... CO2 can be produced by burning fuels, or by recovering waste emissions from other chemical processes. Industrial CO2 production is huge because it is required in many different applications. In a cartridge there are 16g of CO2, the emission from a car is of 100g/km, a typical carbonated soft drink or sparkling water contains approximately 6-8 g/L of CO2. What about the lifecycle impact of the electric battery pump, can the battery be replaced by the user or will the whole unit go in the trash when the battery will be degraded ?

For me the manual pump always wins as it is comparatively cheap, requires no charging, and will inflate as many tires in one go as your arms can cope with. I do see the luxury of carrying an electric pump but for me cycling is all about getting the exercise so it seems silly to shy away from a bit of pumping by hand on those rare occasions it is required.

How much CO2 is released in the course of manufacturing and charging these electrical pumps? Comparing that to the equivalent number of CO2 cannisters would be interesting, if you care about such things.
