Hi! I have a question, please. When in follow mode or dolly mode, how do I get the drone to fly back towards me and land safely on my hand?
@alwaysanotheradventure

When you stop moving it should recognise this and in a moment or two move towards you and land. A recent update allowed you to make a cross shape with your hands to encourage this but it doesn’t work well for me. Alternatively use the App and hit the Land button.

Just come across your video series having started to take my own health and fitness seriously at age 57. Love the topic, your overall approach and of course the stellar production. However, given that you go beyond just "Here's what I do" and make several claims, you might want to add in the notes some evidence for those claims. In some cases it might be hard to find (Autophagy after a 10 hour fast? Not sure you'll find too much support for that), in other cases of course it will be easy but still very useful for readers (blood sugar spikes, glucose control). Also, maybe it might be interesting to say more about why you avoid ultra processed food? Looking forward to watching more and inspired by the videos!

Did quite some tests with the varia 715 if i was able to read the licences plates (yellow with black prints here) and they were all readable. Also in darker / rainy weather. The radar is just awesome. I think the info on what and how many are behind you is valuable, also the distance. There are data fields available which also indicate the speed of the approaching traffic. Hope garmin does more image stabilizing in the future. Using this radar for over two years now.

The way I use a rear camera is to have it running in case I want to look at footage later, but usually don't. I love having a rear radar, I've used it all over the place, city and country, and I don't like riding without it. For me, the Varia radar/cam/light combo is perfect, and is one unit rather than 2 or 3. If you want to use high quality rear video all the time for some purpose, then maybe the Varia combo isn't best, but in that case I'd probably use a different rear camera anyway. To each his own of course.

Yet another KZfaqr who lives in the country and thinks that a Varia is no use in a city because it would never stop beeping. I live in London and have used a Varia for years (as well as a Cycliq Fly 6). I just turn off the beeping and it IS useful because you can "see" gaps in the traffic behind you. This is particularly useful (don't forget to tell your sceptical friend) if you are going to be turning right as, after a quick "over the shoulder" check, you can be confident in moving across to the middle of the road. Also, just because you live in a city, does not mean that you only ever cycle in the city, or even in the busy parts of a city. It's a bike - you can cycle through suburbs and into the country. Amazing!

Thanks for your comment, and I appreciate healthy criticism, although the way I read it, it's straying a little close to being snarky. If you've watched my 2 reviews of the Varia (versions with and without camera) I think a rear radar is brilliant. I have used it in cities, in the UK and in France. But if you read the comments, some people don't like the beeping and I want to reflect their opinion, even if it's different to mine. One persons view (ie yours OR mine) is not necessarily the only opinion or the right opinion. I appreciate your comment, so thanks.

@@alwaysanotheradventure If I sound "snarky" it is because I was put off buying a Varia by KZfaqrs (not just you) saying it is no use in cities due to the constant beeping. None of the reviews I have seen (including yours) mention that you can turn off the beeping and, in any case, it is still invaluable in cities for the reasons I mention.

I think a Fly Pro at rear ... with a Go Pro Hero Black (with stabilisation) at the front is the best combo.
@alwaysanotheradventure
@alwaysanotheradventure 9 күн бұрын
It's a great combo, and the stabilisation is superb (I'm a GoPro fan) but even the Enduro battery on the GoPro doesn't last as long as the Cycliq. Plus it's just a little more faff. That said, it's probably the best solution for a commute on the same bike every day if you can get a quick release for the GoPro or keep it in a housing so it doesn't get stolen.

My wife had a couple of the 1080p generations of Cycliq front and rear cameras and loved them, as they were reliable and easy to use. We did finally give up on Cycliq due to lower quality footage and mounts that would break. You gave a good review, and as you point out, how you would use the camera (or radar), is important. We no longer ride road bikes, so the seatpost mount options are irrelevant to our use. We only use GoPro style adapters on front or back cameras. This allows us more mounting flexibility. One thing to keep in mind for many riders is that many of us no longer use the actual video footage as much as we use image captures. (GoPro acknowledged this in their product release as they now downplay the "photo" feature, since few use it.) Due to Instagram and such, more typically, I will grab images of notable occasions on a ride and only occasionally use actual footage. So quality image grabs are super important to me. I used a Sony FDR-X3000 4k for years, but the past few years, I have used GoPro, which has very good images in the video footage on the last two or three models released. Not just image resolution, but great, stabilization, exposure and shadows. Our 1080p Cycliq cameras did not have good image grabs, with poor resolution, poor stabilization and poor exposure in low light. It sounds like Cycliq's current 4k model is much better. With Cycliq's long battery life and ease of use they might be a good choice for some.

Thanks for pointing it out though - we’re on the same page now!

Same here. I wouldn’t ride on the roads without a mirror. There are frequent situations where a quick glance down at the mirror tells you if something is approaching, long before you can hear it, and for turning right it’s invaluable for checking it’s safe to pull out into the middle without doing the full shoulder check. In windy conditions you often can’t rely on hearing at all and it is much easier than turning your head if all you need is a basic check that the road behind is clear. Very cheap - my came in a pair and fit in the end of the drop handlebars. I just use one, on the offside.

I've been using the Varia 515 (no video capabilities) for several years and it combined with my mirror really helps me 'see' what is behind me. The 515 can detect cars about 450 ft behind (assuming a straight road). On my head unit, the cars appear as dots moving on the side of the main display. I turned off the beeping sound. I can still see if there are cars behind me while looking forward. The best part is that it tells me when there are no cars (or anything else like a faster-moving bike) behind me if I need to pass someone in front of me. For me, the 515 is just one more layer of safety. BTW - I ride in a mixed road condition area, from busy suburban roads to rural country lanes. I'll wait for the next version of the Garmin715, which, I assume, will have a better camera, image stabilization, and editing capabilities.

I use a Varia radar/light unit and find it invaluable here in the New Forest. I often think I hear a vehicle behind me, but it's some sort of illusion. The Varia is connected to my Garmin bike computer, and that quietly shows me if there are really any cars behind. I find this reduces my stress considerably.

Thank you Simon, very interesting. I owned an earlier version of the Cycliq rear facing camera and it proved its usefulness right out of the box. Unfortunately after two years use the device simply stopped working. The customer service interaction with Cycliq at that time really put me off the brand. That said, it is a more mature product than Garmin's and I would recommend it over the current Garmin camera; ideally Cycliq has improved their customer service and quality issues by now. I am a happy user of the basic Garmin Varia light/radar unit in a dense urban area and would not ride without it. It is paired with a Garmin head unit and does not beep constantly if there are multiple vehicles queued behind to overtake. Somehow it consolidates the audible alerts with multiple vehicle detections, otherwise it would drive one mad. I find the audible alerts helpful in an urban setting given the constant scanning I must do in addition to contending with other distractions on the road. It has proven to be an invaluable tool.
