Way 6: Re-Install MacOS 4:48s
Perform a Power Cycle
Step 1 - Unplug all the power cables and turn off your MacBook Pro or MacBook Air by pressing and holding the “Power Button”.
Step 2 - Continue holding the power button for 10 more seconds and reconnect the cables. Keep pressing the power button for 10 more seconds.
Step 3 - Now, reboot your MacBook again and see if the issue of Mac won’t start up is gone or not.
Check Your Adapter and Charging Cable
In many cases, MacBook won’t turn on issue arises due to a faulty AC adapter/charging cable. Try swapping the adapter and the cable with a different one to see if MacBook turns on or not. In case it’s working fine with the new cable/adapter, the only solution would be to replace the entire charging setup with a new one.
Check the Hardware
If you’re using Mac Desktop, the issue might be caused due to loosely connected cables. Take a look at the cables and make sure that each connection is firm. In case you’ve recently opened your Mac to install a new hardware component like a hard-drive or a RAM, this might also cause the Mac won’t turn on issue. In this case, either reinstall the old hardware or make sure that each component is perfectly placed in its socket.
Reset the NVRAM
Step 1 - Shut down your MacBook.
Step 2 - Simultaneously press and hold “Command + Option + P + R” keys and wait for your MacBook to turn on.
Step 3 - Your MacBook will play the second reboot chime. Release all the keys once you hear the sound.
Reset System Management Controller
Step 1 - Shut down your MacBook and unplug the power cable.
Step 2 - Connect the power cable again and press the Shift + Ctrl + Option/Alt keys and the power button simultaneously.
Step 3 - Release all the buttons at the same time and you’ll notice a small flicker in your power cable’s light. This is an indication that SMC has been reset successfully.
Step 4 - Restart your MacBook and check if the “MacBook Air does not turn on” issue is gone or not.
Re-Install MacOS
Reinstalling the entire MacOS would probably the last solution on your list.
Step 1 - Shut down your MacBook and press the power button again. Boot it in recovery mode by pressing “Command + R”.
Step 2 - The macOS utility window will appear on your screen with different options. Use the arrow keys to choose “Reinstall macOS”.
Step 3 - If asked, enter your Apple ID and continue with the process. It may take several minutes for the OS to reinstall completely.
Step 4 - Once the setup wizard quits, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup process.

Unplug the charger, hold down Shift+Control+Option+Power button for 10 seconds, then release all at once. Plug back the charger and press the power button normally. This worked for me. After your system comes on, shutdown and do the SMC reset to prevent the issue from recurring Let's know if this works for you.

All I could see was a black screen with red battery icon and it turned off again. I plugged the charger for several hours and turned it on again, but it was still responsive. My MacBook appears to be stuck in a boot up cycle. The boot up chime rings, then silence for a few seconds, the it does it again. Screen isn’t black, more like a really dark purple. So there appears to be power happening, but not much more. The thing died at the end of a Zoom Guitar lesson I was giving. Any suggestions on what to do? Apple store said it’s most likely the logic board?

hey my mac doesn’t have a light on the charger cable, but when i reset the SMC a message appeared on the screen indicating me that it had no battery. Is the problem the battery then? I haven’t changed the AC adapter yet.

This tutorial saved me from purchasing a brand new MacBook Pro. I acquired the very first version from an Apple Store 15 years ago and never had any problems with it until about a month ago when the screen went black. I followed the instruction by removing the back, disconnecting the battery, and the reconnecting it. The computer’s screen turned on immediately. A few days later while I was working on it the screen went black again. I re-visited the tutorial and followed the instructions to remove the internal memory boards, clean the connector, and re-insert them. The screen lit right up and my computer is operating as if it were brand new. The so-called technicians at the Apple Store’s “GENIUS BAR” didn’t have a clue as to what to do and advised me to purchase a new computer. Boy, were they wrong!

I've a MacBook Pro late 2012 model and I merely had any issue with my mac until now. Actually since few months back there was an issue with the charger. I had to put something right beneath or on top of the charging head in order to charge. Recently I repaired it but unfortunately till then my mac's completely drained out of power. And now it refuses to take charge or if it's charging (only green light is showing up; don't know even if it's charging) it's not turning on. Checked the charger with other macs and it's charging 'em showing orange light after connecting but not in my macbook. What could be the issue, it's so frustrating... Can anybody suggest any solution, it would be highly appreciated.

hi I have got some flickering issues and it get freezes after flicker and does nothing then I have too turn it off and then on again. When I turn it on again, it does not show any display and goes blank but keyboard lits up always. First my macbook pro showed pic of folder with ? Sadly, none of this worked for me but I found the process easy to follow. Perhaps you should have mentioned that re-installing the OS means losing any data not backed up to external storage. Luckily I had learned this from another online help video but others may not be aware of it.

MacBook 2012, Unable to install mac os. I try with 2 SSD and 2 Kit of RAM (the original one and 2 4G ddr3 (compatible with this laptop) and I am unable to make it work. I change the Termal past TOO. The termal past was VERY DRY. I launch the MAC with ALT+R for the Recovery mode. IT TAKE VEEEEERRRYYY long time to come in the recovery mode. All was VERRY SLOW and the MAC close Before finish someting. Some time the LOADING for the recovery mode NEVER END.... Do a Failed MotherBoard can make it appent?

I was working on my macbook air then as msg for connecting charger popped up so connected it. Then , I realised that system is heating up abnormally so removed d charger and then it discharged. But after that i kept aside d system to cool down and then tried charging and switching it on but not turning on or charging. Now CC centre says that there can be motherboard issue.

Nothing worked for me and I have a faint white line in my MacBook Pro. Before I shut it down it was kind of multi coloured and I’m worried that the screen is broken. I cant contact apple support because I don’t know the details to log in to contact them for my Mac. I also don’t want to go somewhere to get it fixed as it is expensive. What should I do?

I white screen of deathed today where it looks like it's starting up but doesn't move past a certain point. I noticed something was wrong yesterday when I studied it down but it was refusing to shut down (stuck in he black screen but not actually switching off for hours) but I thought after restarting it would be fixed guess not. I have a MacBook Pro Mid 2009. When I power up the Sleep Indicator light (front right edge of MacBook) goes on and the fans start running. Suddenly I hear a click and the light goes out then it comes back on and nothing else happens. How would I diagnose a problem like this?

I can restart it with step 3. All the startup procces went slow but ok, landing on a clean desktop without any files. Battery shows 1% and quickly turn to 0% and shut down. I try to start disk utility but have no time. Macbook pro early 2011. Please help

Hello I just dropped my brand new MacBook Pro and it has some external damage too in the touch bar But does that affect internally? My Mac keeps on restarting so ramdomly within short time and it does not even show the touch bar option. It keeps saying “your computer was restarted because of a problem” please can someone help me?

Worked! Needed to reset “SMC” I didn’t get a flicker in the power light but the screen did flash battery at 100% next time I pressed the power button the Mac book powered on. Whew! Before this, looking at a dead screen really had me upset. Showing a text across the screen in your presentation of each method was very helpful. Explaining what each method was resetting was interesting and shows you clearly understand what you’re talking about. This saved me a trip to the “Genius Bar” and the hassle and delay of trying to arrange an appointment. Sincerely, Thank You!

Step #5 of this video seems to have done the trick! My Air was 'dead' and I was worried that it was going to the graveyard but by following step 5 (SWC I think you said it was called), I seem to be back up and almost running. Fingers crossed. Thankful that I had a spare laptop at home to find this video.

Please help! I had to get a new MacBook Pro, but I would still love to get my old one working. I had a lot of files/downloads on it that I can no longer access. I don’t want to have to purchase all those files again. When I turn it on, I hear the reboot/login sound, the keyboard light is on, but the Apple logo on the back cover looks yellow and the screen is all black. Please what can I do to get the screen working and the logo white again? Thanks a ton! 🙏

Woah, doing the power cycle actually worked! Hold power button for 10 seconds, while still holding the power button insert the charging cable then keep holding for 10 more seconds. Thank you!!

Hi 👋🏻, thanks so much - your suggestion about taking the power source out - holding the off button for 10 secs and then reconnecting the power source whilst continuing to hold down the power button worked wonders! Much appreciated 💪🏻💗

SMC works, the charger changes Color but then when I press power button alone it doesn’t turn on. Is there a solution for this please ?

If your MacBook's SMC has been reset and the charger changes color but pressing the power button alone doesn't turn on the MacBook, try resetting the NVRAM, checking the display, booting in Safe Mode, or booting from an external drive. If none of these solutions work, there may be a hardware issue with the MacBook, and you should consider taking it to an authorized repair center or contacting Apple Support.

I was so frustrated because nothing was working for me, and while trying another key combination I unexpectedly made it work again! I was holding the power button down (I have a MacBook Pro 2019 touch bar) and accidentally pressed the DELETE button, which is right next to the power button, and it came back to life again like nothing happened! I have no idea what was the problem. My laptop was on, I closed the lid, and when I opened it back it was completely dead. It was making the "charging" noise when plugging in the power cord though. I share this hoping it helps out someone out there, cuz it's so damn frustrating not finding a solution. It's kind of funny how I did.
