I find this report a bit confusing, until now I have read that we have an undersupply of EV batteries, reaching the already many recycling facilities set up for EV batteries because EV batteries are lasting longer than predicted and going on to have second lives in stationary storage. Also the journalist said “ that - the minerals- are often used in small quantities which recyclers believe are too expensive to recover” and “ 1% of rare earth metals are recycled globally” which would mean we are not really talking about EV batteries except for Copper which many battery makers are now making extraordinary strides to remove from their batteries altogether. At least the problem does not seem to be as drastic with EV batteries in Europe where 48% of portable batteries are supposed to be currently recycled. Rare earth metals are however, used in magnets in every kind of electric motor, from your food processor to your EV. So is this what he is talking about in this report? And for these kind of electronics as I understand it, we have not made much progress in battery recycling, however they have made considerable progress to create powerful magnets that don’t use rare earth metals, such as Niron, though I realise they are not yet in mass production or used in any EV as far as I know. It would be nice to clarify the issue at hand, one, so as not to unwittingly spread disinformation and secondly it’s difficult to fix a problem that we haven’t correctly understood?

This isn't sustainable. We need new ideas.

In Ireland we now have to take our empty cans and bottles back to the shop purchased them in. Because using that recycle bin at home was too easy a solution... We have complete morons running this climate show. This will be the greatest waste of money and resources in my lifetime.
