This team was once one of the most consistent NASCAR teams in the Truck Series, with many drivers recording wins and building their careers with the team, especially Timothy Peters. Today, they are gone, but they should never be forgotten. Here is the story of the Rise and Fall of Red Horse Racing.

This team was personally one of my favorites, and today, the closest remnant to this team still existing is DGR-Crosley Racing.

Red Horse Racing was screwed over due to lack of sponsorship quite sad to see a championship caliber team go away due to lack of funding.

@TheJackhammer92 That should be a three-parter since that team also used to be Petty Enterprises. So part 1 is PE, then part 2 is REM, and lastly part 3 is RPM

That number style looks very familiar; I'm pretty sure it's standard styling for other racing series numbers. That, and it's the "1" from Mobil 1.

Well, between that subtle number and the Mobil logo tribute team name, they were already getting some small degree of advertising without paying anything. Still, it would have made for some cool looking trucks with a full real sponsorship.

Let me tell you a tad bit more about 2009 Danny... Yes, it was true Johnny Benson was let go as the driver as the #1 in June because of... ahem... "sponsorship woes". But the #1 didn't shut down; It was re-numbered to the #17 for Timothy Peters who was said to bring in sponsorship... which he actually never did. Excluding 2010 where he was sponsored K&N, Timothy Peters *NEVER* brought in the sponsorship dollars he was believed to. You'll see in nearly all of his races with that team the sponsor was either Toyota or Red Horse themselves. He was essentially a ride snatcher, hence why Timothy Peters was nicknamed "The Moron" (A similar situation is also why Austin Hill is nicknamed "The next Timothy Peters"). Only in 1 race throughout Peters tenure at Red Horse was he not in the 17. In the fall Martinsville Truck race in 2009, someone was already promised use of the number 17. So Timothy for that race used the #1... & won... exactly 1 year after Johnny Benson's last NASCAR win. Timothy Peters becoming the top priority of the team was their true downfall. I'm surprised they lasted as long as they did. I'm also shocked he's still getting rides to this day. I find it embarrassing honestly considering his history...

Galaxy brain take is that the team's downfall began when they signed their most successful driver 9 years before they went under. That's like saying Furniture Row's downfall began when they signed Martin Truex Jr.

That is like saying pay driving is good for the sport and that signing an unsponsored driver with talent is bad (because yes, Timothy Peters WAS talented). Even if he did not bring sponsorship dollars, I think this NASCAR team did right by valuing more talent than money. It just did not work out the way they thought it would because no sponsor stepped up to finance them full time. Also, on the Hattori situation, Austin Hill may not be as talented as Moffitt, but he sure as hell surprised me this season because I thought he wouldn't do shit on that truck. Not as good as Moffitt, but he still proved that he deserves the 16. Oh wait- who am I kidding? You're a Johnny Benson fan, of course you would call Peters a "moron" for "stealing" his ride, that's why you're mad at Austin Hill for being Moffitt's replacement

If the team ditched Benson because he didn't have sponsorship, then what's the point of ditching him for a driver who said he had sponsorship but *didn't?* Why ditch the reigning champion for an unproven driver when neither driver had the sponsorship dollars the team was looking for? *THAT* is my argument. The fact that the reigning champion in that story is Johnny Benson is irrelevant to this story. Just take a look at 2017 when Brett Moffit won the Truck title, yet was ditched for a driver who initially didn't have the sponsorship dollars he said he did. Sure Austin Hill actually brought some here & there later on (Something Timothy Peters next to *NEVER* did), but it proves that the only thing worse than a pay driver is a supposed pay driver that actually lied about the sponsorship he bring with him & took advantage of a team's trust... just like Timothy Peters! Did I make myself clear now?

I had heard some rumors from Twitter and Reddit back around 17 or so that part of why RHR failed was because Delouch insisted on funding his own trucks without little to no outside assistance. They even rejected sponsorship from a travel agency apparently.

Great video on a fun team but... ugh, that background music. It comes, it goes, it's distracting and it makes it harder to hear ol' Danny B. (Granted, I have about a 30% loss of hearing, but I doubt I'm the only one.)

@@DannyBTalks Other than having to cue the subtitles to make out your voice, that was a fun video. I'd kinda forgotten about Red Horse as I don't watch the trucks very much (I watch Cup, Indy car and F1 so my Sundays are usually filled). You bring quality work to a broken and savage world, Danny B. and I hope you keep up the fight!
