In 1994 and 1995 the Red Hot Chili Peppers, along with director Gavin Bowden, began work on a documentary, Deep Kick, named after the third track on the album. The documentary was expected to be similar to Funky Monks, which documented the making of the band's 1991 album Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Although it would feature media and concert footage, the documentary would also contain mini-films intercut featuring each member of the band. Some footage from the documentary has been released on the internet including Anthony's segment along with a segment of the band with the Velvet Underground's "I'm Waiting for the Man" playing over the footage. Footage from the in-studio version of the "My Friends" music video also came from this shoot. It is unknown if the project was ever completed and if it was, why Warner never released it.

The more people claims One Hot Minute is underrated, the less underrated it seems to be... Now everybody seems to love it. Not many did in 1995.

This is THE best RHCP album! It is their artistic peak after so many years of hard work. They could not have gotten here without 'Blood, Sugar...' but structurally and thematically it is several steps above that album. These songs flow together like multiple dreams that turn out to be a single acid trip. Or vice versa! It is also the album that captures the end of the 90's (yes, great artists see the future 4 years before the 90's really end) and the last moments of culture not strongly affected by the internet, social media, and smartphones. 'Californication' would be the entrance of RHCP into the real mainstream therefore solidifying 'One Hot Minute' as true Art.

It's really kind of sad.. this band was infinitely superior with Dave Navarro in it. Soncially it never made sense that they'd go backwards and do Californication.. back to their old thin sounding band thing.. which of course became a major hit. I wish they would have done a second record with Dave.

I love the other ones too, but its just something a little different from them, but it still so so good. If john ever leaves again, I would love if they just made one more record with him. Desperate to have the spot filled? But they snagged the best & most in demand Celebrity guitar player in the world at that time (Dave Navarro from Jane’s Addiction), Dave passed on an invitation to be in Guns N Roses around the same time. John Frusciante wasn’t half as famous as Dave Navarro was at that time (arguably still isn’t). One Hot Minute had three hit singles: Warped, My Friends, and Aeroplane. It also sold 3,555,000 copies worldwide so it was commercially successful (just not at the same level as BSSM). In my opinion Blood Sugar Sex Magic is their best album, followed by One Hot Minute.
