But what if you got it all backwards? What if Irene isn’t the bad guy but Joy. Joy is the one who constantly appears with the other members in the Psycho MV. Joy’s manipulating them to go against Irene. Maybe that’s why in Zimzalabim Irene was the only one without glasses because she was the only one that wasn’t blinded.

it’s such a good finale for the reve festival. even the song’s message feels like a finale of sorts. in my head it’s the love child of red flavor and bad boy. quite a weird combination to some, but it makes sense in my head. whenever i listen to red flavor, i see it as a nostalgic summer track. psycho has those hints of nostalgia in the song. bad boy influence is quite obvious, so no need to explain that.

I think that Joy isn’t the good person here, but neither is Irene. Instead it’s a battle of both powers trying to take full control of everyone. I believe that Psycho is about Joy making her move to control everyone in secret, as when she first shows up she is shown hiding behind a door in the room Yeri is jumping in before closing the door. Later she runs up stairs and finds Wendy and brings her along with her, as if Joy is trying to avoid the attention of Irene. However Yeri and Seulgi were still under Irene’s control, like puppets connected by string. Joy cut the string and set them free. Irene feels it and is now aware of what’s going on. Later on in the MV Irene looks scared, the tables have turned against her. But the video ends with all of the girls around her ending with Irene saying “Psycho” indicating that she won the battle. I believe that Joy isn’t necessarily the good person because her expression looked like she was controlling them for her own power, not to set them free. The reason she looked distressed is because she knew Irene was keeping an eye out.

It gives me creeps but I love your theory. And now,I just rewatched the mv for the hundredth time and notice that only Irene wear an overall white outfit,Wendy has black and white outfit and the rest of the girls Joy,Seulgi, and Yeri wears black. Am I the only one who notice it?

I have an idea: Irene and Joy are the true psychos of this story. They're the ones in control. Irene is the head mastermind behind everything while Joy is her accomplice. That would explain why Joy and Irene seemed to be controlling everything in Zimzalabim. Also, when the girls are unconscious in the elevator in the Zimzalabim MV, Irene and Joy are the only ones who aren't trapped in this fake world. The Umpah Umpah MV is the fantasy the members are trapped in. At first, it seems happy and bright. However, it soon takes a turn which is shown by the weather drastically changing from sunny and warm to stormy and dark. It's all part of their plan. To make the members think that everything is going to be okay and as if nothing happened when they're in fact being hypnotized and controlled by Irene and Joy. In the Psycho MV, the song starts with Joy saying 'Psycho' which means she has taken control. Throughout the music video, you can see Joy helping the members and snapping them out of the trance Irene has placed them under. Seulgi also helps to free Yeri. During the scene where Seulgi is talking on the phone with Yeri, she says the words 'Babo Babo' which means 'fool/idiot' in Korean. This could mean that Seulgi is saying that Yeri needs to wake up and stop being a fool but soon, Joy cuts the cord. She could have done this is fear of Irene finding out about their plan to escape. However, Irene quickly finds out about their plan and traps them again. At the end, they all are dancing and running around as if nothing happened. That's because Irene could have erased their memories to make them forget about everything that happened so that they stay under her control forever. She also does this to Joy so that she will never be betrayed again. The song ends with Irene saying 'Psycho', reminding the girls who is in control and that they will never be able to escape. Another idea to support this is in the Psycho MV, Irene starts off with blue eyes but later on, her eyes change to black. The colour blue represents loyalty and wisdom. This shows Irene's trust for Joy in carrying out her plan. However, she realises how Joy betrayed her and ruined her plan and her eyes turn black. The colour black is associated with power, evil and aggression. This shows how infuriated Irene is by Joy and how she wants to take power back into her hand. Eventually, she does and the other girls remain in her clutches forever. Or do they?

This is such an awesome theory! I love your videos so much. I was personally thinking that Yeri might actually be the lion because she is seen breaking the mirror at the end of the MV, which could be a sign of gaining courage just like the cowardly lion desired. Wendy could resemble the tin man because she looks rather sad and emotionless, resembling the tin man's wish for a heart. Meanwhile, Seulgi finally gains a mind of her own as seen when her reflection deviates in the mirror, resembling the scarecrow's wish for a brain.

I saw a theory that Psycho is about an abusive relationship seen by the abuser's vision

Psycho’s plot connects with the idea that this reality is run by Irene and her desire for a perfect world but Joy starts to see through her manipulation and tries to escape (running in teasers/no flower.) Wendy pretends to be happy since it’s all she knows though deep down she feels trapped in Irene’s reality. Joy grabs Wendy’s hand on the stairs and the two search for Seulgi and Yeri. Joy finds Yeri jumping on her bed with no emotion and tries to convince her to come along. Yeri has the strongest tie to Irene. We see Joy cutting the string of the telephone cups connecting her to Seulgi who is probably still trying to tell Yeri not to question Irene’s leadership. Seulgi is skeptical of Joy’s accusations (why she has no lantern in the teasers) but is soon enlightened. Irene’s ideally perfect world starts to crumble as we see the mirror fall and shatter making her go psycho, believing that maintaining her delusional reality is what’s important and what’s best for the other four. She runs into the sewing room to find she’s too late and everyone has already gone. The butterflies flying away symbolize the Monarch Effect and the release of Irene's mind control over the girls. Joy’s “Don’t look back” is directed towards the other three, ensuring they don’t have second thoughts about escaping. The “Hey now we’ll be okay” towards the end is the four celebrating their escape from Irene. At least that's my theory lol

I once read a theory on twitter that was talking about how Irene is literally "Lucifer" (God's fallen angel) because she was in heaven in the would u mv but later was seen in the garden of eden(happiness mv) From happiness she lead the other girls thoughout the different stages of hell. You often see her driving cars so this symbolises her in command. The only member who is aware of this trip that Irene is taking them on, is Yeri because she wasn't really noticed by Irene in the happiness mv(she was in the mv just not actually participating in the song) Because of this Yeri sees Irene taking the other girls out of Eden and decides to follow. In the automatic mv you see her wearing a cross necklace and her face half in the light. Irene notices that she is not in command of Yeri so you often see her getting in the way of yeri(blocking her) not letting her warn the girls ((I would upload pictures if I could)) (ok so I tried to find the twitter thread that talked about this theory but I couldn't find it so I'll try to restate it as best as I could😭) The different stages of hell Red velvet go through: *Limbo*: Home to unbaptized and virtuous pagan(not to bad, not heaven, but not bad hell): be natural mv *Lust*: Automatic mv. There is alot of red in this mv(with people dancing) red represents lust. *Gluttony*: Ice cream cake mv. You see them eating alot of sweets *Greed*: Dumb Dumb mv. There never seems to be enough of anything in this mv *Anger*: Cookie jar mv. Destruction of food filled with bugs. *Heresy*: I forgot which mv symbolises this I'm sorry😭 *Violence*: Peek a boo mv. Self explanatory *Fraud*: I can't remember this one either🤦 and *Treachery* which I don't think the op covered Basically Psycho takes place really close to the last stage of hell(*Treachery*). So yeri is going crazy trying to round up all the girls to save them. She trys to communicate with Seulgi with the red string thingy but Irene sends Joy to stop her. Yeri throws a rock at the mirror causing Seulgis reflection to turn and notice her. Joy notices Yeri getting Seulgi on her side so she trys to get Wendy before Yeri gets to her. Irene is watching over all of them and not doing anything, just letting them fight because thats how they get to the last stage of Hell, *Treachery* .

My theories: -Irene is the psycho but then the members thought it was Joy, Joy was only trying to save them from Irene’s control over them but the members sent a message to Irene and stopped Joy from ruining her plans -Next is maybe Joy and Irene is the psycho but only one of them are supposed to control the members, so the members had to choose one side because they don’t know what to believe but ended up being with Irene and the story did not end because of Irene’s last line: Psycho -Joy is the psycho and Irene clearly saved them through turning back in time to stop Joy but this theory is really suspicious for me because Irene was the one who said psycho at the end, that made me form another theories. -Joy and Irene, was actually a team just to keep the members under their spell while losing their minds figuring out what really was happening. -We are all overreacting lol

The theory was amazing! I personally think that Irene hasn't gained control again but only thinks she has. In the mv your can notice that her eyes changed from blue to black,possibly representing that her cover is blown because of joy .In the end the girls might be pretending to be in her control ,waiting to escape. The smirk might have shown that Irene believed she had control again or she knows they know

I like the video! I think it could work just as well without the crutch of The Wizard of Oz, but it is interesting and because of the promotions I think it works. This is also the first time I noticed the castle, and how the journey could be reflected in Umpah Umpah. I also realized that in the end, it looks like Irene is still in control. I think of Psycho a lot like Love4Eva.

In Umpah Umpah Irene is also driving a car like in Psycho. Joy in the beginning of the mv said "psycho" because she realizes what's happening and is calling Irene a psycho. Throughout the MV in Psycho Joy is seen talking to each of the members in private however cuts them off from speaking to each other. The reason she cuts off communication might be to prevent Irene from listening in to the conversation, stopping the influence of others, or is trying to gain control for herself. However I believe it is more of the former 2 then the latter since she is constantly trying to get away with the members (the train and the car). She's trying to take it one step at a time and free the members one by one as the members are going through an illusion of euphoria and self reflection (the mirrors). She's also telling the members "don't look back" fearing that they would be in doubt of the escape plan. Seulgi's part where her reflection looks back is a sign of change leading to the blue butterfly Irene sees. This causes Irene's mirror to break and realizing what's going on, stopping their plan and bringing them back with the false statement "everything is ok". Irene at the end smiles and says "psycho" either to show that she is calling herself that or calling them crazy to try to escape her scheme. There's another theory where it says that Seulgi is the witch of the carnival and the members are her followers passing her tests to become one. Whoever she dislikes she purposely sets them up to lose (yeri drowning because she learned umpah-pah instead of umpah umpah like the other members). There are more examples of this in the Bad Boy MV. However I don't think it really matches well with Psycho. Another theory is that Joy and Irene are working together. I don't really know the context for this theory. The first giant paragraph are my thoughts on what is happening in the Psycho MV

But what if Joy was the psycho, And Irene was the one trying to help them. Seulgi was clueless and Yeri knows what happens. She tries to communicate to seulgi but Joy cuts the connection so Seulgi is unaware. It seems like she has a psychotic obsession with the other members so she tries to keep them with her. You can see Joy bringing Wendy into a train, then later on Wendy is in an unknown location. Later on you will see Yeri throwing a rock with a message to Irene as a warning. Then later on Joy says “Don’t look back, lets be who we are now”. This is her saying to the others to not leave.

“...Red Velvet will be forever trapped with her (Irene)” That made me think that Red Velvet will always be together or that Red Velvet will always be with Irene. Also, how Irene is the one in control, maybe the whole thing that Irene is in control is because she’s the leader. I don’t know, just my thoughts 🤷🏽‍♀️

im not a fan but im chill with this but with watching the new rv mv, i cant help notice the change of colour pallete and mood throughout the song. it starts of dull with monotonous colours with classical (?) tinge on the song, then ends with hints of bright and active colours and pop mood on the song idk i just want to say this out
