Ling Ling, have you found my videos about "Tonalizations" of Suzuki's? I think it's called "Shortcut to Good Intonation". Start with that (learn to use "ringy notes") . In addition, play TONS of scales, combined with listening for ringy notes. You can also play scales with reference pitch drones. That is also VERY helpful to give your ears a "center pitch" around whatever key you are playing in.

Happy to help! Keep in mind, there are other priorities that come BEFORE vibrato, like good intonation, good tone production, bow control, and left hand posture, and general posture. Those should ALL be under control before tackling vibrato.

Classical pianist coming in back door to fiddle-luv your ‘show’ I watch closely - your ‘tell’ amazing-so helpful-are best ‘ fiddlers classically trained??
@RedDesertViolin
@RedDesertViolin 3 жыл бұрын
You know....I used to think the best fiddlers were classically trained, but that was my own prejudice talking. Now, I believe anyone can become a great fiddler.....whether we are classical or just raised on fiddle our whole lives. It all comes down to practicing, and getting the right guidance. (and classical players really have to learn to hide their classical-ness)

Thanks for your tips, I have a very short fourth finguer, will this limit my vibrato or is it possible to train it to get a wide virbato even with a not rounded fourt finger?
@RedDesertViolin
@RedDesertViolin Жыл бұрын
You absolutely can develop your pinky vibrato to perform well. On long notes, you can approach the string with a straight pinky, and not on the tip of the finger, but on the flat part of the pad. But for fast quick notes, you won't have that luxury. For those notes, you can position your arm and hand at such an angle and elevation that is advantageous for your short pinky. ROtating the elbow to the RIGHT has the effect of elevating your left hand ABOVE the fingerboard. Always avoid reaching your fingers up from BELOW the fingerboard. Instead, they should be above the fingerboard and effortlessly "drop" to the notes. (I know....there is nothing effortless about it....but that's the goal!)

If you change your finguer for a finger it will get even shorter!

On this video, I am using a Mach One Hook model, not the plastic version, I have the maple version. If you are seeking a better setup for yourself, check my playlist called, "Violin Posture, Ergonomics, and Injury". I discuss lots of options and review some equipment. But if it's a "hook" you are looking for, the best hook models out there are the Mach One and the Bon Musica.

Do you have a lesson on double stops?
@RedDesertViolin
@RedDesertViolin 3 жыл бұрын
I have a whole course on double stops, using the book "Melodious Double Stops" by Josephine Trott. But I do have a video on youtube that teaches the basic approach to double stops. AND.....drum roll....I have found a REALLY COOL and really easy double stops book....I would totally start with it. It's by Cassia Harvey.....just get Double Stops Book 1. GREAT way to start. Then get Book 2. (not sure if there is a Book 3) After you finish that, then you can tackle Trott Double Stops, or the Harvey Whistler Developing Double Stops. These are ALL great books....with the Trott being slightly on the difficult side...even Book 1. Good luck!

Great advices. Just one thing: I really get distracted when I see you holding the violin by it's pegs. 😬
@RedDesertViolin
@RedDesertViolin 3 жыл бұрын
LOL.....that's a habit I learned from Joseph Silverstein way back in high school....I thought he looked so cool doing it...and I just started doing it. I know he did it so he didn't heat up his strings, or sweat on them, which could make them out of tune before he played. (I suppose it would put them of tune if I accidentally turned the peg.....) Oh well. Glad you liked the video.
