Huge fan of you trying gear you're not 100% with, watching someone try to climb the learning curve is interesting - sometimes more interesting than watching someone who has already mastered the tech.

try press record and new at the same time after you played something without recording. It boosts your workflow so much, because "Ableton is listening" the whole time (scary voice) and puts it in a clip or adds length. after this you just need to crop the clip eventually. have a great day!

Unfortunate that you didnt feel comfortable with it because personally i think that's one of my favorite sonic results from these "from scratchs". Which is a format that i love, even more when it includes the "this draft idea didnt work out" parts of producing that are very real to anyone whos tried anything creative themselves. So i'd love to see more!

As someone who has just bought Push 2 i just can't fully describe how grateful i am. Tutorials about "this button does that" don't give you complete understanding of the workflow, so videos like this one are pure gold for a novice like me. Thank you! And the track is dope though

YES! Please make more! Loved the imperfection of the video, not in terms of video production or words but in terms of not being 100% confident with it. I think most of us feel the same with Push 2!

It's good to see you using hardware outside of your wheelhouse Jeremy. Makes me feel less bad about flapping about with gear, which is constantly. And by the by, you still nailed it! I'll happily take that Push2 off your beautiful hands.

Haven't finished watching yet, but I just wanted to let you know about changing the probability for all notes - if you hold Select and and then choose a pad in the drum rack, it lets you select the probability for all notes for that pad. It's pretty smart about it too. E.g. if you have a a bunch of different probabilities set, it'll tell you the range on screen (e.g. 35-59%) and you can then up or lower that range across the board with one knob twist. I just discovered this myself. The Shift and Select buttons offer a whole hidden world of functionality in Push.

I really enjoyed this. It's so cool watching someone who knows Ableton like the back of their hand dial in the goods. As for the value/utility of Push, I think trying to do everything with it is really not what it's designed for. Browsing for things, hooking parameters up between devices, etc is best done with a mouse and screen IMO. But once you have everything in that you want, you can then dive into Push and get hands-on access to everything in a way that's so much more immediate and visceral than with a mouse. It especially shines in newer devices like Wavetable that were obviously designed with Push in mind and it's just a joy to use. As for future videos, how about a hybrid approach where you do things on screen where it makes sense and things on Push where that's more fun? Might ease the frustration factor a bit, dunno. Love your work as always, Jeremy - thanks so much for sharing! Edit: PS: I really enjoyed this course by DJ Step1 sequence-one.teachable.com/p/ableton-push-2 she's a wizard on Push and made it really accessible to me. Highly recommended. Also Andri Soren's course on WRKSHP

This was great! As someone who started using Ableton when they offered free suite access for 3 months (and then another 3 months. I have a Push 2 and I found the best set up is to jump back and forth between the Push 2 display and your PC/Mac display. I wish they would add the ability to map macros and LFOs from the Push. Also trying to switch out an instrument, I have to use the hot swap feature in Ableton otherwise Push 2 will overwrite the whole chain (I group my instrument chain in order to quickly hide/show/and copy.) The best features are easily the macros mapping automatically to the knobs, the built in sequence, and the ability to see a visualizer for stock Ableton plug ins. I've used the Novation Circuit as a controller but the latency and mapping were a pain in the ass when moving to a new project even with templates.

Solid as always Jeremy, teenage engineering content aside you tend to have a similar taste to me in terms of using modular and traditional, hardware and software etc. Either way I’ve enjoyed your content a great deal .😊 I have mk 1 push and similarly have struggled. I think like any tool it’s about how much you are willing to invest in it in terms of how it meets your needs. Im still on ableton 10 and push 1 and will probably keep it that way and rely on my hardware to make the meat of what I do. I like ableton but have always used it in a more counter intuitive way and mainly used it for mixing outside gear and occasionally midi sequencing external stuff too as opposed to using it in session view with multiple clips and layers etc. I feel like I like ableton despite ignoring what it’s good at which is why I think I probs ly ned to learn push and get better at quick recording clips etc. Agree re wavetable, fkin great.
