Looking for a used Nissan Navara? - carsforsale.com.au/nissan/navara
While the arrival of the third-generation Navara brought many changes, it was the choice to use ‘sprung’ rear suspension rather than traditional leaf springs that turned the most heads.
Where the updated Navara didn’t measure up was in active safety, lacking anything like the sort of active safety assistance offered in Ford Ranger.
Do we recommend one? Check out the full video review now.

At ReDriven, we’ll be taking you through the pros and cons of a huge range of used cars to see how well they’re going now that they’re a few years old, have thousands of kilometres on the clock, and are coming toward the end of their warranty, or maybe don’t have one at all.

They destroyed all 4wds about the time landcruiser ditched the 6cylinder diesel in favour of the more environmentally friendly V8. It has been a downward road for all diesels since that date. They have pushed high hp, high reving output out of small cylinder blocks and they simply don't last. It is the same analogy as taking steroids and wondering why the heart fails. Not only is it a problem for cylinder blocks, it is a problem for drive train which wasn't designed for high torque of the modern variants. My advice to any one, find a vehicle with Ad-Blue if you want it to last. The DPF have higher engine temps, which have always been a problem.

I have a 2016 D23 Navara ST dual cab ute. The vehicle has done 98,000Km and has been totally reliable and very economical. It is comfortable and is used for shuttling between Adelaide and Whyalla. Until fitting slightly larger Cooper tyres, RAW4x4 aftermarket lift kit (probably 20Kg extra), an ARB canopy (80KG), low profile bull bar (65Kg), tow bar (30Kg) and dual battery system (35 KG) it got very close to the fuel consumption the maker claimed when driven at the maximum allowed by the speed limits. Now it does 9.5 to 10.5 litres/100Km, the extra weight has taken its toll in fuel consumption and the wind resistance of the bull bar set up has reduced maximum speed and reduced acceleration, though mid range it is still very good. If you have a standard ST ute with the soft springs fitting air bags in the rear is very effective and a cheap way to really improve the handling. I've driven in sand dunes and on beaches, it's great, just have the right tyre pressure. Blue Rag Range track in the Vic. High Country was an easy drive for the car as was Crooked River and several others. The Flinders Ranges was easy even before the car was lifted (30mm suspension and 20mm tyres). On the 2016 model the screen for the reversing camera is too small, catches the sun and is very poor compared to , say, the Hyundai equivalent and you cannot see a thing if you are wearing Polaroid sunglasses. The biggest problem even when the ute was standard before fitting the bull bar was that the Nissan dealership I was using changed the oil but not the filter for three years even though I was servicing every 10,000Km causing the filter to be blocked by carbon and a build up of silica in the engine oil which I detected through having an oil test done by a reputable laboratory. Flushing the engine and changing the oil and filter had a remarkable effect improving performance and fuel economy. Changing the oil filter is fiddly and I was unfortunate to have a lazy, unprincipled person servicing my car. Oh! I'm not a mad 20 year old but a 75 year old 4x4 enthusiast who has travelled widely in places needing 4x4 ability and I don't have money to burn on a pension. To see what the D23 will do look at Tyler Thompson on U-Tube.

I have a 2016 D40, been super reliable and a very capable machine, looking for a bit more refinement and comfort now, was thinking of an Amarok since the NY22 Navara is a bit above my pay grade and I didn't realise the D23 already had the coil spring suspension, recently found out and your honest and detailed review has just sold me as I am a Navara fan after years of good service from my beastie. Glad I know to look for the 3rd generation suspension tune now as I often tow a large boat or chuck 2 adventure bikes on the back or both at the same time, thanks for a great video.

Had one for just on 4 years, cannot fault it. Im a tradie and appreciate the lower tub height so getting things out of canopy aren't as difficult as lot of the other utes. The drive is excellent more of an SUV than a ute. Its comfortable, the seats have been a game changer for my back issues. Fuel economy on long runs in particular is outstanding, tows whatever I have towed with little issue. And it looks good on the road. I recon very much underrated.

Hallelujah someone spoke truth, 19:35 as a builder I’ve owned nearly every brand as I upgrade every 3-4 years or so. And yea they’re all pretty good but the reality is your gonna need to spend money on all of them especially if you wanna carry weight or tow heavy stuff. I tow a dual axle builders trailer everyday on my current car a 18 Navara and my spine loves it. If your gonna do anything out of the intention of the manufacturer made these for, (which includes most everything) be prepared to spend big money! None of these things carry load the payload on all of these dual cabs is less than a tonne. Payload includes driver passengers and every thing bolted on to the car but no one mentions these very important points when you buy one, I wonder why.

Fully loaded on holiday with some mileage, I get around 8-9L per 100km, but unloaded I can get around 7L/100 if you try, its pretty economical. The General grabbers are a great tyre choice, virtually no road noise, lots of grip and they wear brilliantly.

I got it for a super affordable price, certified used, with one previous owner, at 20k miles. I've put some mods and more to go, still haven't reached the prices of what I saw shopping the used version of the competitors. I'm not sure why the hate--if you prefer the common models, then go with what you prefer. Great truck if you're into budget building and fine with luxury utilitarianism!

having one since 2018, its an honest hardworking reliable, low upkeep, comfortable all rounder ute for the family. stock navara may not be a specialist for frequent heavy loading or extreme offroading or sports driving (eg: drag) unless modded but its more than sufficient for almost all duties. but somehow was always the blacksheep of the ute market. but that;s a good thing since it fetches well if you're going for a used navara. very very bang for buck.

Agree 100%, and let's not forget that you used to be able to get these for 0% finance before RONA hit, on a 3 year loan. 2018, just paid mine off, 80,000km and aside from the driver's seat (I weight 110kg) I've had no issues. 10k service intervals are a great bit of advice. Still looks virtually new, but mine lives a fairly charmed life.

I would like to add some things. As to suspension and it’s weight taking ability, air bags and quite inexpensive and cost less than the difference between a Navara and any of the competition. Yes, if you want an out of the box solution, it won’t tick the boxes but if you want to have the best of both worlds (comfort and load carrying ability) then you can’t go past the Nav. Rear main seal leaks are nearly guaranteed and I can’t agree more about the service schedule. Cloth interior wears horribly, especially door cards. Series 4 seems to have a different throttle map (I’m led to believe this) as I feel next to no lag in my 2020 Series 4 ST. I have an iDrive and it turns into a jerky mess and just unpleasant to drive. My Navara would certainly be in the top 5 of the 30+ cars I’ve ever owned. Good review bro.

The NP300 is the best dual cab ute I have owned .Bought the first of the series in 2015 ,a gold STX . Now has 110,000KLms with oil changes at 10K intervals. This ute has never missed a beat and would buy new again without hesitation. Only recommendation to any owner or future buyer is change the auto transmission fluid before 80,000 klms .Nissan says the transmission is sealed for life but after dropping the pan at this kilometre reading, found thick metallic paste on the two pan magnets and the trans oil not looking too fresh, it is important to keep clean fluid running through if you desire a transmission with a long life .Its not too difficult to do it yourself. Otherwise a great reliable car to drive.

All the hate derives from Toyota fans who find it hard to deal with a manufacturer that makes just as good if not better 4x4’s and dont get ripped off! 😂 It’s like the good old battle between the Patrol and Landcruiser. Patrols are just stronger and generally cheaper. Navara’s are about 10k cheaper than a Hilux!! They also have the least amount of problems than any other d/can 4x4 in the market. Just my 2 cents. Highly recommend.

Absolute bullshit, speaking as a mechanic the last remotely decent Navara was the Japanese made D22, they have been utter garbage ever since. The only reason why anyone at all buys a Navara these days is because they are too cheap or foolish to investigate the alternatives. I hate them due to the grief they have caused me repairing them repeatedly, not to mention their unfortunate owners saddled with a lemon that constantly lets them down.

My Navara ST-X is a 2018 manual i bought new. It's done 70000k, mostly hiway, round town driving and a bit of towing a jayco poptop camper offroad. So far i'm pretty happy with it and haven't had any issues(although a friends 2018 Navara just that turbo pipe issue replaced under warranty). You are right about the paint work(mines blue), its crap and scratches really easy. Also if you get bird or bat shit on the car clean it of immediately or it will ruin the paint. Make sure you get a handle guard or every time you open the door your finger nails will scratch the paint. My other gripe is the horn extends down to the bottom of the steering wheel and is easy it hit when turning a corner. ...and yes i thought the services were a bit long at 20000k so i do an oil change at 10000k I get 8.5l per 100k with the manual and is a lot more responsive to drive than the auto.......

Had the D40 and now the NP300. The D40 was a great Tonka toy although the 5 speed auto box and FM radio made it feel a bit agricultural at times. The NP300 is a fantastic daily driver, economical (ive had 49mpg on the motorway) and very comfortable but....its almost too car like which takes some of the fun away. Difficult to explain but that slightly rough edged pick up experience has been engineered out and sometimes I get out of the truck, take a few steps and look back to remind myself I have been driving a pick up. For most people though that will be a good thing. Ive got the 2016 model and dont need to carry lots of weight so for me the extra on road comfort adds to the refined feel of the vehicle on long journeys. I do miss the split folding rear seat and the removable floor storage but......the 7 speed auto box, dab radio and Sat nav, not to mention the 360 degree camera system more than off set this. Strangely and rather annoyingly, no auto wipers! Overall I love this vehicle and in my heart of hearts know that as a family lifestyle choice, this truck is perfect but....its my truck and 99% of the time I am the only one in it so I might try the Ranger or Amarok next as they have somehow retained that tough pick up image.

The scratchy plastic dash and small glove box is a killer. My 2015 model has the old head unit which does not handle glare at all. Love the rear window, socket in the tub, and great cupholders. Shame they stopped doing the fold down rear seat, wasted storage

Best fuel economy i reckon among all 4x4 ute on the market. Cant fault the comfort especially front passager seat. Can fall asleep in 20mins everytime. I dont get back pain for 3hrs like in a Toyota (in 45mins)

I've always wanted to own a dual cab. Mainly to assert my manhood (I still loose cred at the pub as my Rugby experience ended at under 15s at Joeys). I became overjoyed and as giddy as a school girl, to find there is an option to pay an extra $50k for a Mercedes badge. Now I too can own a dual cab and Father won't write me out of the family trust. Hoorah.

Great review. Always wondered about the D23. Only knew 1 person who owned one, and he was more than happy with it. Never heard anything bad about them. They seem like a good honest vehicle and deserving of more love than they seem to get. And having a coil sprung arse end must be a massive advantage when it comes to ride comfort and handling.... 👍

My current NP 300 is a 2016 model, i have fitted a 150 ltr fuel tank, Air bags, towing extendable mirrors and a twin battery system. I tow a 2200 kg Full size van, honestly the Navie tows it with no issues what so ever. off road, well i say it is a recovery vehicle for all the other twin cabs out there. in all a brilliant vehicle.

And where they drive it ...ive had the d22 and d40 and they've both done what i asked from them ...i dont need speed and able to climb a mountain ..nor do i need a lux interior to make me feel happy ...so when you buy a ute you buy what you personally like take into mind where you wanna take the ute in the future

moving from Canada to Mexico in a couple of months. The Ranger, Tacoma, and Colorado are all significantly more money than the Hilux, Maverick, and D23 (called the Frontier in Mexico). I don't like Ford's auto transmissions, and I wanted a manual, so that ruled out the Maverick. So it was between the D23 and the Hilux, put some money down on a new 4-cyl. D23 with a 6-spd manual.

A well presented review. I've owned my 2017 SL dual cab since new and rolled 100,000km. There's a couple of things I'd like to mention. They are economical IF you keep the original wheel and tyre package for road use, AT or mud tyres make a big change to on road fuel usage as does oversized tyres. 18:25 The difference on paper between the two terms of warranty is pointless, Nissan Australia are not familiar with the concepts of Warranty or Customer Service. 👎 Buy the car, take it away from the dealer and get a good independent mechanic to carry out your logbook servicing. It will cost you less, and dealership servicing won't help you come warranty time regardless. Oh, and I hope you were joking about the catch can thing 🙂 Fit an EGR blank plate, leave the PCV system standard and drive on happy with no intake build up.
@seanstrange69
@seanstrange69 Жыл бұрын
why would anyone joke about fitting catch can?? the best thing you can do for a diesel.. leaving car factory and not modifying....better for car and upper head and manifold.....egr plate is wrong thing to do if you ask any mechanic

@@seanstrange69 I am a mechanic 👍 Absolutely no harm will come from allowing the tiny amounts of oil mist to enter the combustion chamber and burn away, vehicles have been doing this since the 60s. Pumpimg diesel soot back inside the cylinders is a completely different matter.

Got a 2016 np300 been pretty happy with it so far, fuel consumption is horrid when towing over 1.5 T but kind of to be expected. Have owned Nav’s since 2012 from the D40 Spanish build followed by the first Gen NP300 2015 D23, to my latest 2020 N Trek warrior without any issues or complaints. Have a 22ft Haines Signature boat that weight around 2.5t so I fitted a set of airbags for around $500 that fixed the soft rear on the 2015 model but have found the N Trek’s premcar retuned suspension is doing the job without airbag’s. Have no problem recommending the NP300 D23 as an all rounder, but if your budget can stretch to an N Trek warrior and you fit a throttle controller you won’t be disappointed.

I have owned a nissan navara/frontier since 2017. I had 3 problems. first problem: the shock absorbers expired at 25 thousand km. changed under warranty second problem: turbo oil recovery tube. oil leak by a minsfunctional o'ring. part changed under warranty with 30 thousand km third problem: turbo sensors broke with 70k km. Is a used nissan navara worth it? It depends on the budget. As everything is progressing I think a 2022 has all these problems solved

Standard they're pretty average. Aftermarket suspension was the first thing I did to mine then went to tow a car trailer and noticed it was lacking power going up hills and went to get it remapped. Went from 28psi boost making 140hp to 36psi making 185hp feels like such a better car now. Changed the turbo hot pipe and throttle body pipe over to ally stuff as the hot pipes have a shitty seal as mentioned and the standard throttle body pipes have a plastic sensor that blows out if you're towing and have the motor under load often. Standard headunit is a real prick sometimes when you're using apple carplay, constantly freezes and gets a 10 second delay when you press the screen. Took it into nissan and they did a hardware update on it now its been issue free. Had the headlight adjustment/leveling module get water in it and fry it but nissan covered it on warranty. Put in a difflock override switch so i can engage it in 2H or 4H and the car literally goes anywhere 4wding with the locker and coil rear. Overall its been an awesome car, series 4 bought in Feb 2020 brand new and now has 50,000km on it with no major issues and rear main still in tact surprisingly!
