In partnership with the New Hampshire Department of Education, the R.E.A.C.T. awareness initiative offers students tips to deal with signs of emotional suffering, and directs them to resources for support and help. On Thursday, October 26, NH Education Commissioner Frank Edelblut joined D-H Senior Director of Public Affairs John Broderick at Mascoma Valley Regional School District to present the R.E.A.C.T. initiative and discuss the importance of reducing the stigma of mental illness.

I have had mental problems for the last 25 years. No friends, family won't associate with me, can't get or hold a job. I spend every day in my home, watching videos, unable to connect to anyone even online. All because of the images in my own mind that scared me to the point I couldn't sleep. So now I am on heavy drugs, seeing doctors is my social life, and no hope for the future. I feel like getting involved in helping people like me, but I have obligations at home helping my old father. It's good to hear of the struggles of others in dealing with these issues, but I feel it will be impossible to change the public opinion on mental illness, especially with our media demonizing the mentally ill in movies and on the news every single day. Thank you for caring.

They need to change the way professionals treat the mentally ill..I know as I have been mistreated and humiliated by the medical and psychiatric professionals during an 11 year stint in and out of mental hospitals..We don't need drugs! We need LOVE..We need real group therapys not crayons and a coloring book...

i think i don’t have a mental health problem but as a person that has survived traumatic events occuring since childhood the best thing i can say is that there is always calm before and after the storm...for me watching this keeps me feeling safe and sane and centered

I listen to massages cause doing a campaign for my school project it is very interesting I known it doesn't matter who you are whether you mentally are not everyone deserves to be treated equally with love and compassion.

The stigma on mental health in my country (Nigeria) is high. A lot of people don’t even want to relate with you if they hear you suffer from one mental health issue or the other. It’s a constant struggle to sensitize people on this issue here because their opinions are based drawn from religion and tradition. But this didn’t stop me from speaking up in my KZfaq videos. Thanks for this video 🙏🏽🙏🏽

There’s a big stigma. I have schizoaffective disorder and was admitted to the hospital for chest pain. I got suicidal and ended up on Baker act. Before that happened I was treated great. But, afterwards I was treated like I was stupid. Also, after hospitalization for severe depression, my parents’ friends treated me differently. It’s a silent disorder and disabling. I used to keep quiet about it at work. Because, I was afraid to be fired.
