There are two main types of heaters used in our tanks... in my opinion one is vastly superior and the other... basically irredeemable! freshbydesign.com.au/aquaponi...

I haven't used a glass heater in years, I don't trust the thermostats and I much prefer relying on a dedicated temperature controller to control my tank. Plus I now get notified if the tank is too hot or cold so I actually now when things are going wrong. Great video mate!

I’ve broken a glass heater! I was doing a water change and forgot to turn it off- I started smelling it heating up and in a mad moment decided to pour in my fresh saltwater. Due to the temp difference it shattered instantly and tripped the safety switch! Now running two Shego heaters on an Inkbird with the reef safe temp probe. So much better!

oh wow i dont envy the cleanup that would have required for the shattered glass!

I dont doubt the quality of the Titanium heaters but I run 2 x 300w Eheim Jager heaters via an Inbird controller in our 940lt system. I have never had one fail but I religiously change them for new ones every 2 years just to be safe. After 5 years I still haven't spent as much as I would have on a schego set up for the same output, so for those on a budget or those who want to spread the expense over a longer period, the Eheim is a very good option

I was in the same boat until recently, I decided to take the plunge and spent the $ on Schego; one of our importers in NZ have used only Schego for the last 15 years and have never seen one fail and are still using a couple of the originals. You can't deny that sort of reliability :)

Aso don't understand why there is not more info on heaters. It's a very important piece of equipment.

Thanks sharing info, I getting a fragbox reef Casa soon (delivery to australia take a while) but that website look like good one and I not picked a heater yet, I think Shae go and Inkbird be good choice 👊😉🥰🐶

Great 👍 video Marcus, so true what you say about glass heaters, I’ll be getting a titanium heater regardless of cost for my 300l tank for sure, appreciate the heads up. 👍🏴

Not sure about energy efficiency of titanium heaters but Eheim glass heaters are rated at 1 watt per 3 litres of water, which seems pretty efficient to me as most heaters are rated for 1 watt per litre. I also had an aqua one glass heater that lasted about 7 years and counting but maybe I got lucky. Being unbreakable is also such a non argument. You put the heater in your sump and don’t touch it, unless you want to use it as a light Sabre. Also you have 2 points of redundancy with glass heaters if you also use a controller whereas titanium heaters plus a controller has a single point of failure. Not saying glass heaters are better but they’re not as bad as everyone make them out to be!

Bit of a non issue, you get a LOT more heating out of the rating of heating with a titanium heater. BRS has done a couple videos on the perks of titanium heaters. Regarding the redundancy, there is the issue with glass heaters most often getting stuck ON which will cook your tank; with my titanium heaters I use the Inkbird ITC-306A which has two temp probes for redundancy, two relays and are configurable for the max heating time before turning off. Also it gives you notifications on your phone via their app, its a no brainer to go that way. To be 10000% safe, replace your heater controller every 18 months to be sure the relays never get stuck on due to age.

@@ayrtonm Ok but you can also use an Inkbird on a glass heater. What if the controller fails with a titanium heater?
@ayrtonm2 жыл бұрын
@@pn7836 it's a valid worry, what I've used as a yard stick is see what the warranty periods are for your heaters, they need to be replaced or atleast not used as your primary heaters in that time, this period with a schego is like 5 or 10 years, it's pretty hefty. I've done that with my eheim heaters for the last 5 years without issue. But seeing how a local importer is still using the same schego heaters he bought around 15 years ago, that's pretty hard to argue with. The main thing that fails in the heater is the relay which is now offloaded to the inkbird, so replace your inkbird occasionally and you should be golden assuming you buy the one I use with the dual relay so if one gets stuck on, it uses the other to flick it all off and alerts you to a failed relay.

Great video. is it the Hygger Titanium heater HG 802 you are referring to? The one you show from what I can see reads Helzer?

There are two titanium heaters I talk about, the old one I ran on my previous tank is an Aqua Manta TH300. On my current tank I am running 2x300w Schego Titianium heaters on an Aqua Logic controller.
