In-depth look at GHL's Ion Director and installation guide.

Little warning. This is very content heavy video.
GHL, premier German manufacturer that has introduced ProfiLux as well as many useful tools for our hobby has been teasing us last few years with their latest innovation in Ion Director. After few delays, earlier this year, we started to receive good news that the Ion Director units are started to roll out of the warehouses and being shipped out to the hands of the end users.
GHL reached out to me and I had the owner Matthias and GHL USA's Vinny to come visit to install one of these units in my system and to provide proper guide on how to install these units, what to expect from these units and just to talk about this unit over all.
Take a look and see if this is something that you may want to add to your collection of reef gears and see if you need any help or directions on installing this unit.

I am so incredibly excited to see this product coming to the market! Ghl’s precision is phenomenal. 12 design iterations is amazing engineering! I love that they took the time to get this new technology right! Maintenance addition: The dosing heads also need to be cleaned with a cotton swab and alcohol occasionally.

I love look of GHL but dont know which way to go can you just have KH and ION no Controller, At moment i dont need controller just lazy ill admit to test every day

I hear ya. Without controller, ghl and focustronic is the only option for multiple parameter autotesting. I personally use both and absolutely love them.

@@cheekonv would be nice but I also understand companies wanting to protect their intellectual properties as there are many sucky people that just blatantly rip others off. Sometimes it just doesn't make financial sense for businesses even when it makes sense. 😢

@@cheekonv I'm just going by what a controller company has told me. Apparently there are or may be some possible or potential security issues according to them. I wouldn't know really but made sense where they were coming from when I was speaking to them. Maybe it's a generic answer to dish out? 🤔 like I said, I wouldn't know lol.

They seem like a decent product but I ended up with Apex bc the GHL doesn't make much effort to entice the buyer like Apex does....plus just the OS of Apex if youre new like I was with a controller not long ago...if GHL wants to compete they need to quit being in the shadows and make their product more loud and proud...I see virtually zero promo for it unless it's your channel or one other....nothing on the sites I shop...LFS ....forums....it's like they want to be in background and not right up front! my 2c like it or not

I hear you. Their marketing can be a lot better. Their home-base and main client base is in Europe so maybe they are not used to how things are here or just not proficient in loud and proud advertising like you said. Hopefully they will do better like you said. Competition breeds innovations and better for us, end users.

I dunno being in sales for years loud and proud is good but not if your already established and know for what you are it’s all about presentation and the do that well advertising is hard if you don’t have enough suppliers I’ve got one LFS in all of Canada 🇨🇦 I bought a used controller and brand new kh director deal. Advertisement isn’t always the biggest factor if you don’t have enough suppliers that I think is there bottle neck in USA and Canada.

Great stuff. But the tubing connectors of the doser unit are scandalously unreliable. I have a GHL Doser. It once emptied a whole bottle of additive on the floor because the tube popped off. Others do a much much better job with that. Especially those with push connect fittings. They know. Because the fittings on the Ion Director are good.

are the fittings on the ion director backwards compatible with the ghl dosers? Sorry, I am relatively new to the ghl products.

I've had the same problem with my doser tubing. I don't know if its still the case with newer products but my doser requires a PC computer to instal or do any sort of updates which is a huge problem if youre a Mac person. I would not have bought it because of this but all of their sales bumf at the time showed nice photos of how easy it was to use with IOS & I fell for it. Apart from those significant problems I found them quite well made.

I say it again: I ll never again buy a GHL product. My KHD Director needed to be sent in for repair three times within 8 months. GHL had the worst service I ever got from a company.
