"A naked American man stole my balloons" is one of my favorite line deliveries of all time. Also, the shot of the werewolf walking towards the guy in the tube, shot from the top of the escalator, is one of my all time favorite scenes. Just when you think it's going to cut away you see the wolf actually emerge into the shot and you get an idea of how big he is.

Went to England in the summer of’88. One evening my friend and I were out driving on the moors exploring the area. We were a bit lost and tired and decided to try and find a pub to have a pint and call it a night. Two fun pieces of trivia about this film: firstly, there was no Academy Award for special makeup effects until this movie came out, whereupon the Academy chose to create it specifically so they could give it to Rick Baker for his work on this film. Secondly, they shot the entire Piccadilly Circus sequence at the end (all the car crashes, etc.) in the actual Piccadilly Circus. They got permission to shoot it in the wee small hours of the overnight, and they closed the whole thing down for the duration.

Partially true. The academy award for best make up was actually created thanks to the movie The Elephant Man which came the year before which also had amazing make up and people got upset that the movie got no recognition for it and there was a outcry because of it. So they created Best Make Up because of The Elephant Man in which this movie rightfully won the very first award.

40 years later and STILL one of the best "transformation scenes" ever filmed. And not just from a simple "practical effect" point of view. But the entire editing and acting, actually conveying the PAIN involved in the transformation that most were-wolf movies ignore. Almost to the point where the transformation is seen more as a "blessing" instead of "the curse" it really is supposed to be.

He might have recognised her smell, but I think the point was the movie was flipping the trope of "love conquers all". Would he have been aware cops with guns were at the end of the alley? So, no - he was going to dine on her entrails.

Funny story about this movie. I had to wait to watch it on HBO a year after it hit the theaters because I was too young. Even on the small TV at home, it really scared the hell out of me, in particular, the scene on the moors. The next morning, I had to take out the trash before school. This meant walking out to a communal dumpster that we shared with a neighbor (we lived on a farm) that was out in a field. It was dark and I kept thinking about that damn movie and whether it was actually possiible that werewolves exist. I went out there, threw the trash away and then started to hurry back. I kept looking behind me and when I got to the edge of the horse stalls, my dad hopped out with a scream and took my soul, but not before I yelled out, F*ck!" It was the first time I ever cussed in front of my dad and he just looked at me and shrugged his shoulders. He wanted to be upset but saw the terror on my face and just let it go haha

The villagers understood very well what was happening in their community, because they painted that star on the wall. The star was used as witchcraft, and it was meant to protect their building. Also, it was the villagers from the pub that showed up to shoot the werewolf that attacked Jack and David. The dreams were an indication that the demon spirit of the wolf was slowly overtaking David's pyche and in some twisted way preparing him for what he is to become. Also, David and Jack (as well as the Director John Landis) are Jewish, which is why the Nazi demons killed him and his family in the nightmare.

Those theaters were shoulder to shoulder in Times Square, NY in the 70s. They called them skin flicks (as opposed to the short peep shows in the nearby shops. ) $1 - $5 with the same two features running continuously. When friends from out of town visited, they had two requests ---- A skin flick and the UN (Explain that combination if you can). A curiosity for most people, a haven for homeless to catch a nap and hookup location for dealers, pimps and others. One or two of the theaters showed normal movies after their initial theater runs for similar prices, looped day and night.

Hi Asia & BJ, awesome I can't wait to watch your reaction to this! Thanks for making the thumbnail what it is, it's perfect :) this is an iconic cult classic, I love the soundtrack in it - all the songs have 'moon' in the title - very appropriate. The movie was made on location in England & Wales in February & March 1981 and at movie studios close to London. The special make up effects won an Oscar for Rick Baker in 1982 and the incredible GOAT transformation scene took nearly a week to shoot! David Naughton spent around 10-12 hours a day in the special make up & close to the end of filming it, he had to go to lunch looking like a 3/4 transformed werewolf! The very last thing that was shot was David's face pushing out into a snout while he's changing that first time. Rick Baker thought it was anti climactic, but when early audiences cheered after seeing that 7 second shot, he thought "Yep, I get it now." John Landis got the idea for the movie while working on the 1970 WWII action comedy Kelly's Heroes in the old Yugoslavia in Europe. I highly recommend you react to that movie too, set in the aftermath of D-Day; a group of American soldiers use a break from fighting to go after millions of dollars worth of Nazi gold hidden behind enemy lines.

Michael J Fox released his movie Teen Wolf in 1985. Jason Bateman did the sequel. There was a darker, teen oriented series on MTV of the same name that ran for 7 seasons starting in 2011. Of course, there was also the OG "I was a Teenage Werewolf" starring Michael Landon from 1957, that was also dark.

Yes, they existed both here and in the UK, and what's worse, there were drive in theaters that FACED THE HIGHWAY that played them, lol. Nothing like riding down the road and your mom having to say "cover your eyes"! 😂 Ok, faces you might not know you knew. Frank Oz played the American ambassador at the hospital. He was an officer in Trading Places and a prison guard in The Blues Brothers. He also voiced several Muppets and Elmo on Sesame Street. He's also Master Yoda. He has directed the 86 remake of Little Shop of Horrors, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and What About Bob?

I used to be very into werewolves growing up before being into transformation as a whole. Teen Wolf movie definitely showcases some of the cooler ways it could be part of everyday life - enhanced strength, speed, healing, sex appeal, etc. There's loads of different versions of negative spins on it with some being the transformation is uncontrolled and immensely painful, among the most gruesome being a version where people transform by ripping off their own flesh.

This is one the first movies to win awards for its special effects (which were waaay ahead of it's time). This was another genre-definer by director John Landis ("Blues Brothers", "Animal House", "Trading Places", Coming To America" etc.). Landis did another horror comedy (vampires, this time) from 1992 called "Innocent Blood" that bombed, but was actually very entertaining.

My favorite line~ Only love can kill a werewolf". I love after Alex told David I love you, they showed for a brief moment that she softened his heart, Deliberately launching at her forcing them to shoot him. In the end love killed the werewolf. I saw this in the theatre when it came out. And I can tell you everyone was saddened when David got shot. You two always make movie watching fun. Thank you, and have a great week Xx

My favorite Werewolf movie by far! Don’t worry, Asia, I’ve seen this movie a few dozen times and I still get choked up at the ending. David was such a likable character. Trivia: The actor who played David was famous as the Dr Pepper spokesman in the ‘70s. Look up some of his commercials! The bald guy with the mustache in David’s hospital room when he wakes up is Frank Oz, the man behind Grover, Cookie Monster, Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy, Animal and Yoda! The guy who gets killed in the subway was Bib Fortuna, Jabba The Hutt’s assistant in Return Of The Jedi.

Huge thanks to Asia & BJ! 🐺 What I loved about this one as a kid, aside from it showing penis, was that it was as funny as it was scary. Plus, the main star had been in a Doctor Pepper commercial, singing. He also was a one-hit-wonder with the pop song "Makin' It" from 1979. The female lead in this I still enjoy in things like CALL THE MIDWIFE which is going on thirteen seasons. #ReelinWithAsiaAndBj #JohnLandis #AnAmericanWerewolfInLondon

The werewolf story is hundreds of years old. This film has all the elements plus comedy! Full moon. The moors. The dour people in the pub. ("The Slaughtered Lamb". There's a clue!) The maiden he recognises at the end. Still the best transformation scene (taking into account the availability of special effects at the time). There's a more modern version of the classic "The Wolf Man" with Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins and Hugo Weaving. Also "Wolf" with Jack Nicholson and Michelle Pfeiffer is a very interesting and stylish take. Recommend both!

I don't know if any of you guys knew this, especially Asia and BJ. But this film was the main inspiration for Michael Jackson's Thriller. MJ saw this movie on the big screen, and he was that amazed by the transformation that he desperately wanted to incorporate a transformation like that into a mini horror movie of where he can be the main character that changes.
