This is how I refill my Xiem Applicator Bottle with Amaco Velvet Underglaze. (Ignore the stupid photo of me that KZfaq has chosen to add to my video! Goodness, why do they pick the ugliest segments of the video as the screen photo???) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

Tip use the small spatula from dollar store to take out the underglaze from the cup🤗

Hi Lisa. I love the artistry in your design work. I have the Xiem applicator bottle and to fill it I use a turkey baster syringe which has zero waste and no mess to clean. Simply suck up the underglaze from the pint bottle and they squeeze it into the applicator. Excess can go back into pint bottle. Thanks for the upside down storage tip, I will try that.

You can get the filler attachment that makes this filling less messy and much easier.

Thanks. It's usually not messy at all, when I use a smaller dish. :-) I just happened to have a cup handy. 😉

Oh, and forgot to mention that I think the Amaco Underglazes in the watercolor trays are nice, but I think they're overpriced. They're basically just underglazes dried out. So that's why I just buy the pints and add them to a plastic bead tray. That allows them to dry out a little bit, so that they're more concentrated. I try to mist them from time to time to keep them semi-moist, but if I forget, I just re-constitute them with water. :-)

Thank you again for your super helpful and pleasant to watch tutorial. I have recommended you to several of my ceramic artist friends. This week I bought the applicator you showed us here and I’m looking forward to trying it. I need to buy some black underglaze even though I have a little bit left. And I saw the Speedball underglaze on Amazon is a bit cheaper than the other brands. Have you ever tried that brand for the black line artwork on your pieces?

Thank you so much!! ❤ I have had some of the Speedball underglazes stick to the kiln shelf, so haven't been buying them anymore. But I just had another potter recommend the black, saying that does not stick to the kiln shelf. It's really all about kiln temp and the thickness of the application. So to make a long story short, I would suggest buying a small bottle first to see if it works well for the clay type you're using. Good luck!!! :-)
