In this video, Ben will walk you through all of the things that worked great on his language journey and what he'd change if he could do it all over again so that you can learn from his experience and mistakes.

I'm a native spanish speaker. This is the account I use for my english inmersion, btw I would say your spanish sounds really natural 🎉 I should use this tips to learn english, sort of like an inverse method

Gracias :) Creo que el método inverso sería una buena opción, pero la única diferencia con el inglés es dedicar un poquito más tiempo a la forma de escribir. Porque es una mamada jajaja. Pero no imposible.

"I should use this tips to learn english" In this case you should say "these" instead of "this" because it's about more than one tip, if it were just one then you would say "I should use this tip to learn english"

I'm thinking of doing Spanish just because of Dreaming Spanish. It looks amazing. Anyone know if there is a similar resource for French?

Dreaming Spanish is pretty amazing. I haven't found anything in French that has nearly as much content built out, but there's a channel on KZfaq run by a guy named Lucas called "French Comprehensible Input" that's really good. Be sure to start with the playlist "A1 Level Beginner" and then move into the playlist called "ONE WORD INPUT A1"

there are some that come to mind, they are called "piece of french", "Français avec Fluidité " and "French mornings with Elisa", if you know nothing about the language i recommend those to start. hope it helps

I’ve tried and failed to learn Spanish many times over the years. I finally started Dreaming Spanish back in December of 2023 and now I’m over 300 hours in. I fall in between Refold and DS on subtitle use. I didn’t and wouldn’t use subtitles from the beginner but I did flip them on sometimes if I couldn’t make out a word. I do plan to add them in more regularly before I start reading though because it will help my brain connect the spoken and written versions of the language. It probably won’t be on DS videos though, it will be on native content and preferably when there are accurate subs not just KZfaq auto generated subs which are frequently wrong in my experience. I also don’t plan to start reading yet but mostly because it still too difficult and I don’t find the process enjoyable. I genuinely enjoy watching DS videos and that’s the only thing that’s made me able to be consistent with Spanish. I plan to start reading when I can do so extensively and still follow along well. Preferably with at least 98% word coverage or so. I’m in no rush. I do plan to follow the same plan for writing and speaking though. Those are both on hold for a while. I don’t see them as beneficial at this point in my journey. Honestly, I tried to learn Spanish with AJATT/MIA/Refold before and it just didn’t work for me because I hate Anki, looking up words, and basically any form of intensive immersion. DS might be a bit slower but with how far it has already brought me, I can tell it can get me to where I want to be without all that “work” and that’s what I want out of language learning. I want it to be fun and chill and not feel like work. I love the Spanish Refold resource document and discord server. Also, Dreaming Spanish has a discord server too which has been invaluable in my learning process. I think the two (Refold and DS) make a great combination for me.

I very much agree with sticking to one accent almost entirely for a while when you learn a language with several regional varieties like Spanish. Even later on when you can relax this rule and diversify your input to learn about other varieties, I still think it's a good idea to keep over half of your input in one regional variety so your vocabulary and pronunciation doesn't become mixed and weird That cross talk idea is a good one, I hadn't thought of that

I'm guessing that this would apply to any other languages that I'd want to learn.
@Refold
@Refold 20 күн бұрын
Yep! There would be a few changes depending on the language, but similar languages like French, Portuguese, Italian, German or Dutch would be identical. Even distant languages like Japanese and Mandarin would be like 80% the same. Just over a longer time frame and with some changes for learning characters and tones and such.

Your statement about speaking and reflecting on your mistakes is a large part of the “comprehensible output” hypothesis by Merrill Swain that no one seems to talk about. Seems like a blind spot for many learners.
