Another thing to keep in mind about these filter housing... I replaced my 2001 KitchenAid filter.. similar to yours but not exact... anyway, I bought the new filter from Rona that is the replacement filter from Whirlpool and it doesn't fit properly. It doesn't turn to lock. I tried and tried... then ended up ruining my filter housing. I had to replace the housing. When I ordered it, there was a note on the website reading that This model replaces the discontinued model #*&^(*^*(^&*^... I installed this new one and bought that same new #5 filter that was recommended to me for my fridge and POOF! It fit perfectly! So, they are discontinuing certain filters which is forcing us to replace our filter housings! Also, while fooling around with other things in the water lines and investigating my issues with water flow, I noticed the tubing... the replacement tubing is the same OD...outside diameter, but the inside is wider.. allowing more water to travel through the tubes faster. This is what restricts my water flow as it NEVER came out fast... 47 seconds to fill a 12 oz glass... I never used it because of this! I'm in the process of changing all the tubing as it is recommended to after 5 years or so... mine is 23 years... Cheers!

when i pull my water filter out , it is shooting out water at same area where filter use to be. in the past when i pulled out the filter then would be no water coming out. seems like a seal or something is defective. is this the water filter housing problem or is it a water inlet valve problem?
