2020 UPDATE #3
Questions? bd@berniedawg.com
Do not use round-lobed security bits. The rounded lobes can easily slip out of the penta when the penta-screw is held very tightly and will damage the penta-screw beyond repair and with no ability to extract it. This caution applies to bits sold by a vendor that goes by the name Quie*Sto*e (Q*ietS*ove). Those tools from that vendor WILL destroy your caps! DO NOT USE THESE BITS!
You can get cap washers and SRV pips in the USA at reasonable prices from eBay vendor "spinnakerspar" as of this time (2020).
If you need a Penta-Wrench, it is an easy matter to use a hand-file to file the end of an Allen (hex) wrench to fit the penta with sharp and appropriate edges.
There is at least one vendor in Asia who is also making the penta-tool. Check eBay for "simonchantwus_gmail", or check my parts supplier list at: www.berniedawg.com/stove-part-... for a direct link to their products. They also have newly-made Taiwanese SRV fuel caps in three different flavors.
BD Penta-Wrench Production Update
I am no longer selling the wrench seen in the video. Sorry, folks.

Hey man, great video, thanks so much for sharing! Just curious, have you ever seen one with no brass piston? Mine just has a piece of rubber shaped like the piston... Any thoughts? Thanks!

Okay. So I *think* you are asking if the SRV (safety release valve) fuel caps all have a brass pip holder in the cap to hold the rubber pip of the SRV mechanism under the pentagon screw. The answer is YES. All Optimus SRV fuel caps have a brass pip holder - just like I show you in the video above. The caps won't work right with just a chunk of rubber under the spring. Sounds like someone got into yours in the past and mucked it up. Crap like that happens all the time. For additional help to fix this, or for other help the stove issues you may be having unique to your situation, just drop an email to my business email help address: bd@berniedawg.com Easy peasy! You can't show me a photo of your weird little rubber piece, and I can't show you photos to help you get it sorted out in KZfaq comments. 😎👍

Have you seen this new lixada 123 type stove with no srv? It looks interesting, but I’ve blown srvs before and the thought of there being none makes me nervous. What would you think of a DIY pressure relief wire like the older style 71/80 models? The tank on this new stove is stainless. Would that make it easier or harder?

Heya Paul I've not had that product in my hands, so the following is just conjecture and informed opinion. I don't think the stoves being produced in China for ultra-cheap like this one have proven to be all that great when compared to genuine Swedish-made vintage stoves. (Which are still ultra-available.) The Chinese-produced Svea 123Rs tend to have issues with candling at shut-off. Would this one, too? I'd guess yes. If the Lixada stove is of interest but you are concerned about the SRV lack, it would be easier, imo, to silver braze the center part of a Optimus SRV equipped fuel cap into the brass(?) Lixada fuel cap than to try to stretch a tensioned wire inside the tank like on the 71/80s. Repairable and replaceable, too. Sounds like a fun project. Just my 2¢. BD

Hey mate, I just found one of these stoves in an 2nd hand shop for $5 in New Zealand. cant seem to get it to start. doesn't seem to hold the pressure, I prime it then open the valve and it lights for a second then goes out. would refurbishing this part be the key to solving this issue? cant seem to find where to get these gaskets where i live as theres not many of these around here. any help would be appreciated. cheers

@AJ Van The fuel cap gasket and the SRV (safety release valve) rubber pip inside the fuel cap are the two most likely causes of no pressure build on these old vintage stoves. I'm in the USA, so I'm not familiar with local NZ retailers. And, after all, you're looking at an old stove, so not too surprising you can't pop down to the mom'n'pop grocery for replacement parts for an antique stove. 'Twere I you, I'd check with these folks on TradeMe, the NZ goods auction site: www.trademe.co.nz/sports/camping/cooking-food/single-burner-cookers/listing-2680364940.htm?rsqid=ecc4b9d5d7c9445da21c3b63d2134f08-001 . I'd bet they have what you need. If that doesn't work, I've got a whole list of suppliers at my website right here: www.berniedawg.com/stove-part-supplier-links/ Need more questions answered? Happy to help - go here: bd@berniedawg.com Cheers! BD

Is there anything else I can use to get the thread cap out without having to buy a 40$ tool to do it ? Mine is the Octagonal head on the srv??? You call it a Penta Screw I believe
@BernieDawgCinema
@BernieDawgCinema 7 ай бұрын
@plumpye474 Take a look at the opening on the screw in the center of your fuel cap. If yours is five-sided, it’s a “penta-screw”. If it’s a hex, you can use an Allen wrench. The tool I linked to is your best choice for the penta shape, especially if you actually plan to have any more stoves of this type (Optimus/Svea). But, I and many others have simply used a file and filed a penta shape to match the opening on a six-sided Allen wrench (about $1-$1.50). If you don’t think you can handle that work to make your own tool, then the $40 tool is your way to go. And, seriously, a $40 tool covers the bill for you and a friend for a single lunch date. Lunch turns into shit a few hours/days later. A tool lasts lots longer. In both cases, there’s no such thing as a free lunch.😄 BD

@plumpye474 Or... you could buy this one that some fellow is making out of a tool if you can't make your own and it costs less than the spiffy titanium tool. www.ebay.com/itm/394736958387 You won't have to do any work. There's really no reason to hesitate. BD

I watched your vids an you sold the tools to remove the screws in the. Difront caps do you still sell them an how mutch with shipping and I saw on another of your vids where you burned karo in a 111 b would that be a safer allturetive than white gas an would it be safe thank you
@BernieDawgCinema
@BernieDawgCinema 8 ай бұрын
@PaulBearden-be1pe I no longer make penta-wrenches for the Optimus/Svea SRV fuel caps. But, this fellow does based on my pattern and drawings: www.ebay.com/itm/114161617412 With regard to the Optimus 111B, you are mistaken. I have NEVER burned kerosene in an Optimus 111B. Perhaps you saw one of my videos where I’m using a Optimus 111 (no B) stove (a different design that resembles the 111B). It is not possible to use kerosene in a 111B as the 111B is a naphtha-only stove. Use only Coleman fuel or other naphtha-based camp stove fuel in the 111B. The 111B is NOT dangerous unless the user BEHAVES dangerously. It was successfully used for years by teen-aged Boy Scouts in the USA for goodness sakes. A competent and attentive user with a properly maintained 111B should experience zero safety issues. The only thing that is dangerous about white gas is foolish/incompetent/careless users. BD

Great instructive video as always. Can you please share the exact dimensions of the cap seal? Not the SRV. Much appreciated.
@BernieDawgCinema
@BernieDawgCinema 2 жыл бұрын
@Migwar Bushcraft 18mm outer dimeter, 10mm inner diameter, 2-3mm thick. But… if you are gonna try to cut them yourself, then only use real, quality, Viton rubber. Using other rubber blends they’ll fall apart in months instead of years. Most folks find it’s easier and cheaper to buy real Viton pre-mades from folks like The Base-Camp or The Fettlebox than to make your own and fail. 👍 BD

Can you tell the age of a 123 by the type of cap?
@BernieDawgCinema
@BernieDawgCinema 4 жыл бұрын
No. Not in my opinion. There is no way to be sure the fuel cap on your stove is from that stove since fuel caps are easily swappable between stoves. Plus, for many years the advice that was given to stove users on a well-known and popular social forum in the UK was to throw the SRV fuel cap away and get a new one if it started leaking. Thankfully, I popularized the idea that these fuel caps were easily repairable and there was no reason on Earth not to simply repair them. That's why I have videos that show you how. You're welcome, stove world! 😊👍 BD
