Refurbishing the oldest Rohloff Speedhub I could find on EBAY (long version).

In this video I refurbish a 23 year old Rohloff Speedhub which I bought on German EBAY. I remove two seized axle plate screws and go on to replace the hub shell bearings and hub seals.
I did this for fun and not because it makes any economic sense. I would recommend using Rohloff or one of its service centres for this kind of work.

For anyone interested, the spec of the bearings and seals are as follows:
Bearings - 61807 open type thin section deep groove ball bearing
Oil seal - 47x40x4mm with a tensioning spring

Thanks a lot for great video. Could you advise what may be an issue with my Rohloff? I have a difficulty with switching to 6 and 13 gears. For me it's almost impossible to send it to official service therefore I must try to fix it by myself. Thanks in advance

Hi, sorry I'm not sure what the problem is with your hub. My understanding is that gear 6 and 13 are essentially the same gear but gear 6 uses the third planetary gear set to get the extra reduction. It sounds like there might be a problem with the pawls which engage gears 6 and 13.

This is the same Rohloff model, with the torque arm. My bike to work bike and on light trails. How much did it cost you for this?

Hi, I paid £400 for the hub and spent about £150 repairing it. Sending it off for repair may have made more sense. However, I learnt a lot and now I have the tools needed to replace the bearings and seals in other hubs.

@@dirtbagd89 wow! £400? You got a great deal! I was trying to fix it on my own last time coz the seals are worn out and the oil was leaking. It’s good i found a reputable certified Rohloff mechanic near our place.
