Thank you so much. I developed Bells palsy In January of this year and have had a hard time finding a dr. to help me so I've been going online. My face muscles are starting to come back but now I am having problems with my speech and my eye closing when I eat. My muscles feel like they are pulling tight on my affected side especially when I'm talking. I am going ro join your FB page , but wanted to say thank you for doing the stretches on here. I followed along with you and think they just might help! It's been a long hard haul for me and very depressing knowing my face might never come back all the way.🥺 Trying to stay positive.

I am following all of your advice and a week later, I can already notice a difference. I never imagined I'd be happy to see my frown lines again - they are equal on my forehead now. This was excellent and very clear, and made me realise I need to go much more slowly- I had no idea about stretching and exercising muscles around my mouth before trying to get my symmetrical smile back. I’ve only had BP for four days and now realise I was forcing my smile too much. Very helpful - until the last exercise, where I was confused as you said ‘good side’ and ‘right side’, as if they meant the same but right is also opposite of left. And the captions underneath that bit said ‘affected side’, which I think you were calling ‘involved side’! Could you please reply with clear, simple terms to explain that bit again. For me, good/unaffected side v bad/affected side, would be the most helpful terms because remember also that when you’re looking at someone else or yourself in the mirror, using terms like left and right add another level of confusion! Thank you.

You do not need to work on the muscles this early on. You have to let the nerve heal so it can carry a nerve signal back to the muscles. You cannot move a muscle that does not ahve the appropriate amount of nerve signal to it. Focus on stretching and massaging your face.

@ButheauPhysiotherapy
@ButheauPhysiotherapy 3 ай бұрын
If you are on steroids and antivirals, that is a good start… but depends on other synptoms… can you close your eye, is it irritated? Do you have pain? ( definitely needs to be further assessed if that is the case)… i would not see a regular PT… unless they are facial therapist as well. I happened to be both… there is a lot of education that should take place in beginning… so definitely not a waste… but you of course have to see the right therapist… but you are early on… relax … look at the other videos for further info

@ButheauPhysiotherapy

Facial rehab is about precision and control. Never about strength. The face also gets tired very quickly, decreasing the quality of the exercise. So, I would only do a sets of 10 or 15 reps… and do this 3 times a day. I cannot repeat this enough… Slow, symmetrical and precise. If you have synkinesis, do not go i to the range that recreates it.

I have partial paralysis on the right side of my face caused by a facial neuroma on the 7th cranial nerve. It cannot be removed. It was discovered in 1997 and I had decompression surgery. After the surgery I was very paralyzed on the right side of my face but over the years, the paralysis was much better meaning, not so noticeable, that is, until I had botox in my forehead and when I complained of other facial wrinkles the injector, forgeting I was already paralyzded , injected a small amount of botox in the wrinkles under my eyes and under my lower lip. 7 days later the whole right corner of my mouth was pinched together. She paralyzed an already paralyzed muscle!!! It is wearing off very very very slowly. It is now been 6 months!!!! I suppose because the paralyzed muscle does not move a lot and the effects are lasting! Please help me with more exercises so I can get my regular paralyzed face back.
