On April 12 2023 we lost one of the legends of the London reggae scene, Jah Shaka, aka Zulu Warrior. A pioneer of the UK 'soundsystem' culture (beginning in the early 1970s) which was characterised by all night dance sessions, with reggae played on massive, self-built soundsystems where the bass rocked every bone in your body. In other words, the correct way to listen to reggae music! And the biggest and baddest soundsystem of all was the mighty Jah Shaka! He was also a producer, composer, and record label owner.
For the best part of 50 years his all-nighters have been a fixture on the London scene and I had the privilege of attending countless sessions. He was one of the last guys still doing the all-nighters with the most recent one just a few months back.
Although he didn't produce this particular tune, it is one which I (and I daresay many others) will always associate with him since he played it at virtually every session! And the place rocked every time.
The original line-up of The Revolutionaries included Sly Dunbar on drums and the late great Robbie Shakespeare on bass.
