My two fav players, or at least rootsy, early influences: James J + Bernard E. Their two best hidden underrated gems: Darling Dear and I'll Change My Game. You nailed this down good💪Great work! Twas always such a hidden/mysterious line to me. Virtuoso but facilitating, slyly down in the lows. Seeing someone play it always makes it more comprehensible. Thanks for that. Keep it up!

(Stingray also does it justice. Right on the brink of butt tight studio bass cat skills, just before synth bass prod took over the 80s. e.g. Evelyn Champagne King's - I'm in Love album be one of many illustrations)

Thank you Marcel, yeah😍😍🥲! Thank you for this exhibition and demonstration of the sweet mbaqanga sound. Listening from Botswana. This brings so many memories of my upbringing, my dad played these a lot when I would be chilling with him...i have taken up the bass guitar myself and absolutely love music. Dad is still alive and well and remains my favourite gent...this music lives on in my heart thanks to him and awesome folks like you.

Thanks so much for this delightful comment, and greetings from London! It really made my day to know that these videos are reaching people like you and reawakening happy memories. I too grew up with this music in South Africa and I am passionate about keeping alive the wonderful sound of mbaqanga music. Your dad sounds great and I wish him continued good health and a long life. And good luck with your bass playing development too! 😊🙏

That, right there, is FUNK. This is music you play with your heart, not your head, not even your fingers. I'm 65, but I hear this and I'm 18. Really!
