You are very welcome bro. The process is basically the same regardless of the book however you need to make a few adjustments depending upon where the staple is located on the book and/or if it is a square bound that has glue. You may need to turn down the temp to avoid melting the glue. You may also need to put the backing board or Teflon sheets in a different spot to prevent the feet of the staple from popping through the cover.

I have a tip I have never seen anyone mention before. "WARNING" I have only done this approximately on 500 ish comics now with AMAZING results. STRICTLY with comics that need front and back presses only, I'll use a spray bottle with distilled water. Now im sure your saying WHAT? YES, while the book is sitting in the press all setup and ready to go, right before I put the Teflon sheet on the cover or back Ill lightly MIST the book. Once the top or bottom is damp place the TEFLON on top and close your press. I use a timer of 10 minutes and that makes sure the comic is DRY. Now I only do this on books with heavy warping or creases. This SKIPS the water bath idea and greatly reduces the time needed for the book sit in moisture. Practice on a few 50 cent books and watch the magic happen. I did and now I greatly increase the speed in which I can get it pressed. GOOD LUCK TO ALL!

It depends upon the press, the books your pressing, the number of backing boards, the number of teflon sheets, etc. Try using the backing board technique that I referenced in the video. It may help you adjust the "gap" of the press.

Good idea to go with distilled water - there are plenty of minerals and chemicals in city water - sure the total might be 100-500 parts per million, but they're there and now they may be in your book. Try evaporating a cup of tap water and the remaining dust and crystals are those impurities. I used to run a company's wastewater treatment system.

CGC charges $8.00 a book and a minimum of 15 books have to be pressed per order. That comes out to be $120 per press. If you buy your own press ( On average $150- $200) your pay for the personal press with the money you save after around 30 pressed books ( which would cost you $240 from CGC). P.S I'm dying for that cleaning video!

The distilled vs. Tap... it REALLY depends on if you have hard water... it could hurt comics im sure of that much. However if you already use a filter and everything like that for your water, you should be fine.. SIDE NOTE! IF YOU HAVE HARD WATER! (you will know) don't chance it with buying a filter... just use distilled water.. not worth the of the hard water breaking through your filter and ruining your comics!

Thank you so much for these tips they are very much appreciated, If I may give one type of feedback. If cleaning should be done before pressing, I think to talk about cleaning before talking about pressing would've been great (cart before the horse kinda thing). I understand you said you are testing a few things but your grades are coming back very good so your cleaning must be good ;)..... For myself right now I'd love to start pressing but since I know nothing about cleaning this info is a little premature? Again hope this isn't taken to be rude, because I am very very grateful for this info ;).

Jason, I totally agree. I blame your fellow subscribers. :-) The issue was that I mentioned pressing in a live stream and had a room full of people asking about pressing books. I did the pressing series to address the immediate demand of the subscriber base. With that said, the vast majority of new books do not need to be cleaned. The technique showed in the 3-part series of wiping the books down with a cloth is more than enough for modern books that need a quick press. I appreciate your comment and I hope that this context helps why the cart was before the horse. :-)

Just wondering I am new to this and found your videos very informative. Have you ever tried pressing comics that have a thicker card stock cover, or a foil cover like venom lethal protector 1 or embossed covers like fantastic 4 #371 and what were your results like if have? Thanks
@RegieCollects
@RegieCollects 3 жыл бұрын
No, because not all of those books can be pressed. Heavy cardstock and foil covers are not as pliable as paper so pressing will potentially not work. I have pressed some of those square bound Walking Dead books from image and the only thing that happened was that I melted the glue that bound the book. LOL With that said, give a try yourself and see what results you get. Consider dropping the temp if you are pressing something that has a glued spine. :-)

Hi Regie. I used room temp distilled water but I did not get any condensation in my humidity chamber. Does this mean my chamber did not get humid enough? It seems like everyone else gets condensation even with room temp water.
@RegieCollects
@RegieCollects 3 жыл бұрын
Room temperature means different things for everyone because houses are at different temperatures. You also have To account for the size of the bath. Those are two major unknowns that I can’t address. The real question is are you getting good results with the bath and press. If so, I would not worry about condensation. If not, you may need to tweak things (e.g,, water temperature, bath size, bath duration).

Thanks Regie. Would you press a comic that has been signed? I have a few comics signed back in the day at the San Diego Comic-con (1984 or 1985). New Teen Titans #1 with George Perez and Marv Wolfman and a couple Secret Wars signed by him Shooter. So 80's Comics with ballpoint pen signatures, y'know, old-school-style :) I haven't pulled them out in a while and they might be on the covers or inside on the splash page or combo. How might that make a difference in deciding? On this subject, have you ever had a non-authenticated signature graded by any service? I know CBCS now authenticates non-verified signatures. Your thoughts, please? Thanks in advance!

I just watched "Comic Pressing Explained | Spotting Pressable Candidates with CGC Comics" and my question about pressing signed books was answered. Thanks!
@RegieCollects
@RegieCollects 3 жыл бұрын
Lol. You are definitely on a binge watch. In many ways the videos/content builds upon itself telling more and more of the story as you go. A signature on the splash page won’t be a big deal for CGC versus a signature on the cover. The cover would trigger a green label versus blue (splash page signature). And, yes the label impacts value. There is a video on the channel that looks at green vs blue label values. I have never used CBCS for signature verification but that might be a better route than green CGC labels. I think CBCS charades $25 for the first sig and $15 per addition on the same book. Hope this helps.

Thanks for checking out the video. I’ve spoken to the head grader at CGC about this an he tells me that signed comics can be pressed. If you go back to my first messages, I said that you will feel uncomfortable with SRP or more comfortable with Teflon.. Im just saying that why take a chance of putting a book into your cook and finding out that particular book is more sensitive than others then it catching a mean canvassing on the wrap and/or inside book.. Then you ended up having to trouble shoot or ruining the book/\.. Why take that chance? Also, DO NOT USE BOTTLED WATER (SPRING WATER) or Tap water only use DISTILLED Water.. I cannot stress this enough.. Distilled water is $0.95 for 1 gallon at your super market.. Also their is a sliding scale for the DIY humidity Chamber.. I.e 1 cup of distilled water is a 12 - 24 hours (depending on your climate and the room where comics are) 10 cubes of distilled water 1-2 hours etcetcetc.. It is all feel.. Thats why I say take a filler book from Square Bound Book, Stan Lee Tribute modern age marvel books, Golden Age, Silver Age, Bronze Age, Copper Age, Multiple different modern age cheap books and practice practice practice.. That way you get a feel for your humidity bath, your cook (press degrees and timing) etc..

Work supplies me with distilled, so I can cream off plenty... ☺, but is there, in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, any silicone parchment paper to avoid as I see unwaxed mentioned so I presume that there is some that isn't suited for pressing... I am a virgin to this and getting everything together before I start practicing with my shiny heat press....

You do not have to wear gloves, just make sure your finger nails are clean and wash your hands every 20 -30 minutes.. Nice

Ugh me too! I still buy a 100 pack of medium/Large (better if a bit snug for fitting and feeling) to have in case.. Some books, especially golden age and alot of brand new modern age age are so sensitive to oils and dirt that are in your skin/pours/Under finger nails..

Lazy? There is an entire three part series that precedes this Q&A in which I show all of the items used and the entire process of pressing books. I also have an entire series on cleaning books. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oNacZtOZyZu3oac.html
