Hi everyone!
My name is Jenny and I'm a new grad registered nurse working in NYC on a med-surg oncology turned COVID-19 unit floor on night shift. I typically work three 12-hour shifts in a week.
In this video I talk about the salary and hourly rate I was offered as a nurse working for one of the top hospital systems in New York. I go through what my hours and work schedule is like and break down two paychecks, one on the low end and one on the high end. I also compare salaries from across other hospital systems in the surrounding New York City area to see how competitive my pay is.
I hope this video is helpful for anyone either starting out their nursing journey or any nurses looking to move to the tristate area! I know comparing pay among my peers have been insightful for me as I was figuring out where I wanted to start my nursing career.

@@LaurenPaigechannel I give all the glory to God for my move lol. So have a pay a broker fee to secure an apartment so save for that. You can do it though, I work in a hospital in Manhattan bring home $6k a month after tax, but rent alone for a 1 bed 1 bath in Brooklyn is $1,800. My rent is on the cheaper side lol. Love this video. Nurses have all the education and resources they need to make a decent income. They can invest and make more too. Why would their income ever be something left up to others is my question after watching this. Could their potential be limited by references? Their environment? Haters? 🤷‍♀️ Its scary to think that someone with the qualifications and experience to be a nurse would not have a decent income. What could be some obvious reasons in your opinion? Environment? Male Haters? Systems in place? Jealous women?

She makes $103k per year walking out of school.....The turn over is high in NYC, always, in a couple years she can move up, eventually secure a manager position and jump into the $120k range....working in one of the worlds best, modern hospitals....compared to $40 in corrections with slow upward growth. In NYC we don't have car payments, car insurance, gas, repairs etc. If we rent an apartment, we don't have property insurance...its not much more expensive in the city like everyone thinks. I appreciate people who work corrections, but I did a small stint and it was horrible, smelled like a zoo, but not as friendly and fun like a zoo.

You can live well in NYC with a $100k/year salary. Why do people think that you live a miserable life if you make less than 100k a year and live in NYC? I’ve been living here since 1988. I live in a comfortable studio apartment for $1600/month (rent), utilities included - that’s less than $20k/year. The train is across the street, so no car payment, no gas, no parking expenses, and no car insurance. Public transportation expenses max out at $33/week, after that, it’s free rides. I don’t eat out often, but I can still afford it. Live within your means and you still have money left to save, your retirement, and taxes. If you make more, then great, but you don’t have to to live comfortably in NYC.

9:01 Awesome content!🎉 Much props to all of the male and female CNA, LVN / LPN, RNs out there. You’re appreciated! Question: I’m trying to figure out what are most affordable LVN / LPN (accredited) programs online. And what is the range of cost and time to complete the programs? Please help with finding any courses (especially specialty) in our field, that can be done completely online? Please correct me with my tuition numbers are off? I’m a man in NYC, no kids, own my house & car w/ no mortgage & no car note. I already am FT in property management w/o college. I’m also only work weekends and sleep 3-4 hours. I’m pursuing a career in Travel TC ICU ER ENP. And I admit that I’ll need help. The route plan is: get my CNA, work in a hospital for 200 hours, get my LPN /LVN, work that in a hospital for 200 hours, then take a bridge course with dual ASN & BSN while studying for a specialty in ER. My studying ethics is close to Neo plugging in & learning kung fu, and Imma beast when it comes to test taking, so I want prep for my HESI, ATI, NCLEX right now while I save about $12,000-$15,000 for all of my tuitions, online books & certifications. My saving averages about $2K to $3K per month, so I should be test ready by the time I have the money. And whatever bread I make during my “clinicals” 400+ hours I will put towards my next tuition fee, which I believe is $23,000. I want to eventually post videos about my journey, because I haven’t seen anyone successfully pull this off. What do you think? Thank you! ❤

Free? You can find lower cost programs at community colleges for ADN, but it’s not free. It’s still pretty costly. If you find anything free in this world, let me know. Some hospitals do a reimbursement for tuition if you have it in your contract but you still pay the cost upfront through loans or your own means.

Go to a community college. In NY, CUNY and SUNY colleges are tuition-free for individuals making less than $125,000 a year. That includes Associates and Bachelors Degree. And yes - the nursing program is included! I’m currently a nursing student and have paid zero tuition. You must be an NY resident, though. For that reason, the nursing program is extremely competitive and selective.

@@supreme5998 Yes, the ADN is included. The salary doesn't have anything to do with the cost of college. Most people end up going to paid nursing programs in NYC, which are quite costly - $20K or more, a lot more. So, no, nothing to do with salary. It's just the ongoing pay rate and there are a lot of nurses looking for jobs here.
