I’m in the process of choosing a nursing specialty and I know I’m really good at working with my hands, nailing those hard stick IV are so rewarding! The downside is sometimes it may takes multiple tries and our patients are dehydrated, edema/overweight, and has fragile veins. I was wondering if PICC line nurse is a good specialty to work in, do you know? Or any other nursing specialty that requires hand skills? Thanks

Thanks for the content! How do you average less than 36 hours of work? Are you being hired on a part-time benefitted positions? I usually see 3-12s a week for nurses but know that places like Kaiser/other hospitals have 24-32 hour positions
@NursesToRiches
@NursesToRiches 3 жыл бұрын
Hospitals like Kaiser give their nurses full benefits as long as they work 20 hours or more per week. We also have a template system at our hospital. So, when we get hired, we already know what days of the week we will be working for all of eternity (unless we eventually apply for a different template, which is very easy to do). We also have the option to choose from 4hr shifts, 8hr shifts, or 12hr shifts. For example, there was a position posted recently that would require you work 5 days per week, 4 hours per day. That means you would be working a total of 20 hours per week, but you would be going to work almost every day. My template, however, is made in a way where I work 8 hour shifts. I will work 2 days straight, off one day, then on 4 days straight, and finally off 7 straight days before I repeat the cycle again. Because I'm only required to be at work 6 days in a 2 week pay period, I'm only working a minimum of 48 hours (8hr shift x 6 days) every two weeks, or 24 hours per week. I hope that clears things up.
@oliverlikescheetos
@oliverlikescheetos 3 жыл бұрын
@@NursesToRiches thank you for explaining that in great detail :)! Do you usually have opportunities to pick up more hours with your schedule ? If so, are the extra hours counted as overtime beyond the 24 hours a week?
@NursesToRiches
@NursesToRiches 3 жыл бұрын
@@oliverlikescheetos you're welcome. The only time we had no overtime available was at the start of the pandemic when basically the entire country was shutting down. That only lasted about a month. But every single day before and after that month there is always overtime available. In fact, management practically begs us to pick up overtime hours. And, because we work in California, any hours we work over 8 hours in a single day count as overtime hours. Plus, after we pass 40 hours in one week we also get paid at the overtime rate.

Oh boy.. I get what you're saying I get this comment more times than I can count. I should have an automated response for it. We average $15k to $20k after taxes every month. There's no way we would earn that much in any other state. After all of our expenses here, we're left with $9k to $14k. So, even with the cost of living, our take-home pay far outweighs our cost of living if you compare it to any other city or state.

Hi, I am currently a Nursing student in Canada and it is insanely expensive here with lower wages for nurses. So I am curious, since the USA has a private health care system. Does your employer include health insurance for you guys or is that something you pay out of pocket? Also, how does the health insurance work? Is there a limit to how much you are covered per year? What happens if you have to go over that then I have to pay for it out of pocket? Have you also worked with Canadian nurses as well?

Cali and west coast, pays the most . Mid west Chicago , Minneapolis and Milwaukee pays very well. And way cheaper to live . Stay away from thr southern states pay is horrible and radical right republican the trump kind 🤮 rules -so forget that ares. Health insurance yes most all of us have it I pay 90$/per pay period before taxes , and have 403b retirement also and other benefits. Then there is per diem ( you make your own schedule) usually gets paid more than staff . Then there travel nursing, again best jobs are west coast and Cali pays most. Most all mangers positions do not pay , much less than staff nurses. Sounds like Canada does not pay , just come to US , we like our Canadian neighbors to the north 😁. Good luck 👍

I know nurse’s they are working as DA and assistant DA mangers in one big hospital and they only make 200,000 dollars per year and the hospital enslaved them to work 24/7 without rest because they are a salary employee. I am always angry and advising them to quit from that hospital because they got paid under they served. Even one of them has above 25 years experience in the filed and also supposed to be a chief nurse!!! What is your advise ???

Hi! Which path do you recommend? Direct master entry or accelerated BSN?
@NursesToRiches
@NursesToRiches Жыл бұрын
Definitely accelerated BSN. I always believed (as do most nurses) that you should practice as a nurse before getting your masters degree. Plus, you could get your masters program paid by your employer while you're working as an RN.

@NursesToRiches

This is something I honestly considered before moving to California. But, now that we're here, my heart is set on retiring early with the high income that we earn. Earning over 200k/yr as a staff RN is just too easy here and can be done with no OT hours worked at all.

Highest I was ever offered was 113 an hour in LA and this was during COVID. I don’t know a single hospital that offers rate he’s talking about. Unless he’s registry. Even then it wouldn’t go higher than 70-80 dollars. I don’t believe the numbers:) I’ve seen nurses who make over 100k a year. Sounds good till you actually learn about HOW MANY hrs they work.
@NursesToRiches
@NursesToRiches Жыл бұрын
Key words: you don't know a single hospital that offers these rates. Just because you don't know these hospitals, does not mean they don't exist. I literally have the contracts to all of these hospitals because they are all union-represented hospitals and the contracts are public information. There are staff nurses earning this much money and if you were to watch any of the videos on this channel you would see that I am not trying to scam anyone. I make the videos because I want fellow nurses to stop living paycheck to paycheck.

This is suicidal...working doubles & overtime. I tried to do that when I started working as a new nurse. I almost burnt myself out. I pick up probably once a month or in 2 months. CA is expensive...remember whatever you make, you will owe the IRS almost $50k...make sure you set some money aside for that time when you file your taxes. The way Jason talks about nursing makes it look so easy & enticing to all. Yes, you will have job security but make sure nursing is a passion for you. If you become a nurse just for the money, you may leave the profession broken & with regrets

Currently a stripper in nursing school. Anyone know if I would get fired if someone found out? Sounds like nursing is still a finical struggle and won’t replace quitting dancing making $500-$1000+ a day. I want to be a nurse because the extras in the club and human trafficking is out of control. I want consistency and to feel like I am making a difference. I’m also 26 and will finish school at 29. There’s girls at my club dancing in their 50s and making $ but I am not sure how I feel about being 30+ dancing. I almost am embarrassed for the older women dancing.
@NursesToRiches
@NursesToRiches Жыл бұрын
Making $500 to $1000 sure sounds nice but, for the reasons you listed, working as a stripper is not a career you want to be in for too long. You can still get your nursing a license if you've worked as a stripper. So there's nothing to worry about there. And, if you get a job, as long as you aren't doing anything illegal or unethical in your job, you will be ok.

The California Nurses Association union here is no joke. The last time the nurses didn't get what they were asking for in their contract negotiations, 97% if them voted to go on strike. The hospital administrators caved real quick and fulfilled almost every single one of our demands.

You should consider that you are paying a state tax in California; your housing cost is also a factor. 200k in California is like making a little less than 150k in Texas and that is feasible.
@NursesToRiches

Oh boy.. I get this comment more times than I can count. I should have an automated response for it. I don't look at how much we're taxed. I look at how much we end up with in our bank account when we get paid. We average $15k to $20k after taxes every month. There's no way we would earn that much in Texas. After all of our expenses we're left with $9k to $14k.
