I've actually experienced this myself (not adopted) due to trauma in my own childhood and my family never really understood. Even now, at 26, I often slip into talking as a young child may do (with my mum or nan only) because it has been a coping mechanism and sort of become ingrained as part of me. I watched a lot of pre-teen Disney Channel shows (in addition to more adult shows like Criminal Minds, Charmed, etc.) up until a couple of years ago because it helped me escape some of the depression and anxiety that has been a constant in my life from a very young age. It's only in the last 2 or so years that I've been learning about regression and that it's normal, okay and can be healthy if it doesn't negatively impact your life. Thanks for this video, Aimee! :)

Thank you so much, my son is now 23 months and came home at 15 months. Hes stopped talking as he was saying his 8/10 words and now gabbles which was sad to see but in understanding his journey and acceptance we have started nursery 4 hrs a week and hes getting there!

My adopted daughter is 4 and frequently asks to be fed at dinner time. We understand that it’s because she missed that from her birth family and so happily meet that need for her.

I have experienced regression as a teen, it's been very healing. weirdly, I never realised it until I was an adult that this was a key moment in my life. It also was connected to childhood trauma. I had this longing until I got to experience my as you say "gap" and now the longing is gone for most part. It's amazing that we manage to recognize what we are missing without really fully understanding it as children. you are such an inspiring parent, thanks x

Isn’t it amazing! Our body and mind give us the cues to what we need most & if we can hear them; we can heal...even if only a little 🙏🏽

Thanks for making this video Aimee. Our adopted son who is nearly 4 and has been home for 18 months has very recently started to ask to be wrapped up like a baby and rocked when he comes out the bath. It hadn’t really occurred to me that he was trying to fill a gap. His foster carer was sadly not tactile at all and he missed out on so much.

When we link behaviours like this to something it makes them somewhat easier to be with 😍💚

As a long time subscriber adopter to be dad, glad to see you're rocking the long hair and glasses again. Makes this much more appealing to watch. Keep up the great videos, on a serious note you've been great for our journey 👍 thank you.

I’m not entirely sure how to respond. If my appearance has any affect on whether you watch/ enjoy the content, I don’t really want to know. All the best with your journey 👍🏼

@@Aimeevlog No thats fair enough wasn't meaning to be out of line, its just you'd said in the video without no makeup and contact lenses etc wanted to let you know to I thought you looked good. Albeit i said in a very tactless way. Thanks again for all of your help, it really has made a difference to us.

My adopted daughter is 9 and she still likes being Put to bed. She doesn't like the idea of putting her self down to bed. We always encourage her, but she doesn't feel ready.

Ours are the same. They like me to sing to them, one song and they’re asleep. I hear this often 💚

This is something we come across with special needs parenting as well. Sometimes the world is too overwhelming for my autistic children and they just need that connection that reminds them of a time that they weren't as aware. My 9 year old likes to be carried, my 7 year old likes a bottle and a dummy (even though she never had one as was exclusively breastfed for 3 years!) Xxx

Do you know why Foster carers can't do skin to skin? It seems like such a need for a baby that it feels like it should be a considered exception! Xx

There’s a chance I’m wrong. Or there’s a chance it depends on the area or circumstance, but there are certain things as a foster carer that have to be kept professional and ensure a boundary.
