In our quest for seeking out a more healthy and sustainable lifestyle, we made a plan that includes zero waste living, tiny house living and full-time travel. We considered buying an RV, looked at trailers and airstreams but settled on doing a bus conversion for our off the grid, tiny house on wheels. We bought a 1996 MCI 102 D3 coach bus and with the Bus Demolition behind us now we begin our Build!
See our Bus Demolition series here: • Bus Demolition - Rehab...
In its previous life, our MCI bus was used as a school bus, we don't think we can legitimately call it a skoolie. We are confident that converting our bus into a class a motor home will have challenges, but doing a massive overhaul and remodel on a motorhome / RV remodel didn’t seem to align with the off grid bus life we were aiming for.
In Season 3 we share our tiny home design, construction trial and errors, zero waste improvements and travel adventures.

Julle is vol kak😜 Knotty pine doesn't need to end on a strip. Boards on either side of the joint will support it!

The furring strips were too far apart, the planks are so thin and flimsy (which we wanted) that the need something to secure to otherwise they hang/droop. Vertrou my!

Don & Mela, looks like you should of order 1000' reel of wire, cause your gone to need it!!! Nice pad, it will be your official home base. Next year bury some electric, water, septic lines to make it totally independent. Then you can shut down your solar to do maintenance and up grades. I'm starting to do a 1995 40' Van Hool Charter Bus to a RV. Dear Lord what have I got myself into now??? lol. w.w./Oklahoma

Guy's, i would recommend once you park the bus on the stand that you level the frame and block it if you want accurate and stable angles and levels consistently.

I guess it's too late but you don't need conduit for 12 volt. Also 12-volt can share its ground no need to run it all the way back to the panel like in 120v AC

Hi MrPirate, we wanted to keep it safe since it will be moving around and close to metal beams. Maybe over kill but we’re erring on safety when we can

G'day Mela and Don good idea condute nice and neat. With that concrete pad there doesn't seem that it had enough rebar in it for the weight of the bus? John

I have a question about your cats ( I know right...totally off subject).. When I see them in videos, I notice you have the harnesses and many times they are leashed. As long as you have been at your parent's home would they still "run off"? I ask this because I actually "walk" my cat here in New York City. When he was a kitten, he would follow me and the leash was not always necessary. That time period was only about a month. Once he discovered trees were "fun" to climb. The leash became VERY NECESSARY. I was wondering how a cat "might" behave on the road with campgrounds or other temporary "stops" whether short or long. That's a great "landing strip" (bus pad) when you all return home on occasion. Awesome!
@Rehabit8
@Rehabit8 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, we decided to leash train them when we arrived here (they were indoor cats in LA). They are comfortable now here that we take them out and they follow us, or just hang around us while we are working. If something spooks them they will make a mad dash though. Here they run into the house (which is why we don’t always hold the leashes because we aren’t worried). BUT we have a strict rule of leashes on when we leave the house so they know that’s what we do before going outside as when we travel we will hold their leashes. Because if they are in a new and strange place and they get spooked, who knows where they will dash off to and if they’ll be safe.

Hi Mela and Don, What a fantastic couple you are. I'm very impressed by your DIY work on your bus conversion. I have been following your channel for some months now, and looking forward to every new upload. Hats off also for the very good editing. Do you have Scandinavian ancestors? Your surname is common over here;) Best regards from me, an amateur KZfaqr and nurse in Sweden. Take care, /Katarina

@@Rehabit8 Your T-shirt "America built by immigrants" is so spot on. You have to ask your father, I bet you have a Swedish ancestor due to the spelling of your surname.
