Just a Few Acres Farm

It's time to mate the transmission back up to the rear end of the tractor, and finish the gears and seals in the front of the bell housing. Afterwards, I install new detent plates in the transmission covers to help tighten up the shifting.

And to instruct us, the viewers, on how the various parts interact and their function. It's one thing to do something. It's another to explain it well enough so that others see the logic and function of those assemblies being restored/repaired.

I have really enjoyed watching you rebuilding the tractor. I have never been a guy who enjoyed mechanic work, but admired folks like you who have the love and ability doing this rebuilds. Just this morning I took my brother to pick up his dump truck and met the mechanic who does his repairs. Miles is a heavy equipment Mechanic and I asked him what piece of he enjoyed working on the most. Miles said he enjoyed working on Caterpiller D10’S. I guess every mechanic has his favorite machine or brand of machine he likes to work on. Growing up on a dairy farm we had a International Farmall H and a Ford 8N, now you know how old I might be. I can’t wait to see you finish the rebuild and see the tractor running like a kitty full of cream. I love ever minute watching you work!

That internal torque wrench works great, or you could use the German torque wrench that says “That’s goodeneuf”. For me though I just stop whenever I hear gas flowing through a very small diameter orifice. I think it is air escaping from the threads of the bolt.
