Stan i agree its turned to shit as far as the gov letting criminals out of prison to do it again , But there is almost zero oportunity in pi for making a living. I brought my wife here and she loves it , shes working in a hospital and going to college , we bought a vacation house in pi with her earnings , now shes set for after me.

$10,000 won't be enough unless you cut expenses all the time. You better add at least 50% more just to have a decent holiday.

My wife and I lived in several places where it snowed, and she was always fascinated with it because that just does not exist anywhere in the PI. One of the last things she did before she passed away was build a snowman in our front yard. Doesn't snow that often in Vancouver WA so she wouldn't pass up an opportunity to play in the snow.

I brought my Filipina to Canada in the middle of winter, and she was very excited to touch snow. She got her chance and loved it. She says that she is always cold in winter, but she still enjoys shoveling snow when we have a storm. It's been 17 years and she's still here, so I guess it's not too bad. I said I wanted to retire in the Philippines and build a Neepa Hut. She said absolutely not. So I guess we're stuck in Canada.

Regarding a visit, my guess is that $15,000 would cover it, but even then, you'd have to be careful. Regarding moving there, what has not been mentioned at all is the considerable future financial benefits that would accrue to Mae (and her new SS#) if she resides in the U.S. for awhile, and, the medical benefits to you should some traumatic/major health event occur that demands treatment in the States. To my mind, it would be worth getting a spousal visa for Mae now, so both of you can come and go, USA-Philippines, as you please (Mae wants to see her family), and she becomes eligible for those financial benefits, AND, should you need urgent medical care in the States, both you and Mae can be together while that's happening. Imagine if you had to fly back to the States to get treated for cancer, and Mae can't join you for a year while the visa is getting processed, and you also have to manage the visa process from afar while being mostly incapacitated. Think about that. And think about the worst-case scenario in this regard - you die before they let her come to the States. You die, without the person you love the most at your side. Look, not trying to be the black cloud over the parade here, but there are tremendous pluses to both you and Mae individually, and as a couple, living in the States at this point in your relationship and going back to the Philippines as needed/desired. You might want to give more consideration to that option.

Hopefully, Mae can see a part of the west coast. As for a trip in march, Mae might be able to see snow if you visit a national park while you are in Nevada. We did and we were going to see a canyon in one of the parks, but it was a white out(March 22, 2016). I could not see the canyon, only a few trees and beyond that it was snow. We did the park tour from Vegas. Headed down to grand canyon, monument valley, then on to 4 corners, and a few others. It was a nice trip and not that bad price wise because we were not in Vegas too much.

Baby Mae- Yes you should visit the United States. Push that old geezer Paul to spend three weeks in the United States instead of two weeks as travel to/from the Philippines is a big part of the cost. I suggest you travel in April after Spring Break is over. I would suggest that New York City is a very special place to visit. The city, the restaurants, the sights, and the museums are all well worth it. If Paul wants to stay in the West then a trip up to San Francisco, Yosemite, and Lake Tahoe (you can try snowboarding or even tubing on the snow. and yes Baby Mae can wear her bikini in the snow in April!) Maybe a trip to Zion National Park which is only 4 hours from Las Vegas. The Redwoods are unforgettable, either in Muir Woods, close to SF; the Humboldt Redwoods three hours north of SF, or Kings & Sequoia south of Yosemite. Yosemite National Park should be on the list. 120-meter tall trees are a sight to behold. The Falls will be raging in April as the snow melt is epic by then. Maybe you'll even see a bear there. Finally, Washington DC is also a special place to see and understand the USA, the memorials, museums, white house, and the Capitol Building are amazing. Itinerary- Days 1-3 New York City Days 4-6 Washington DC Days 7-10 Las Vegas and Zion (Rent a car there. Drop-off charges are much lower these days) Days 11-14 Los Angeles Days 15-17 Drive up Hwy 101 through Santa Barbara into Monterey (Visit the aquarium there) and then over to Yosemite National Park Days 18-19 Lake Tahoe for playing in the snow Days 20-22 San Francisco (Chinatown, a ferry ride on the bay (cheaper than sightseeing), Golden Gate Park, GG Bridge, wine country) Days 23-24 (Return car) Fly Home Five iconic American Cities (NYC, Washington DC, Las Vegas, Los Angeles & San Francisco) Two iconic National Parks (Zion, Yosemite) + the redwoods! Budget: Airfare for two: $1,600 Car rental for two weeks: $400 (Weekly rentals are much less. Book the car rental away from airport) Gas & Parking: $300 Hotels (21 nights @ an average of $150 including taxes ) $3,150 Food: 22 days at $80 a day: $1,760 Misc: 22 days @ $35 = $770 Total: $7,980 Assumes a couple of nice meals, budget but decent hotels, outside of the city center. Picnic lunches when possible. Splurge upgrades (for two people): Half-price tickets to a Broadway show: $160 Tickets to a Las Vegas Show: $150

I was in Vegas in 2022. I was staying in my motorhome at Circus Circus RV lot. I have since sold the motorhome. However I did drive around and checked out a motel on Boulder Hwy. I went to one called "Town & Country Manor II". There two Town & Country places. The one I checked out was 4360 Boulder Hwy. The place was only $400 for 8 days. It had a kitchen in the room, pool, etc. However you had to bring your own pillows, sheets, and blankets. Although it did come with pots, pans, plates, forks, etc. It is a ways from the strip but, an excellent price. My guess is the price has gone up some since 2022 but, it is still probably one of the best deals there in my opinion.

In Vegas, I like staying at The Mirage hotel. Especially during the week day. It's situated in the center of the strip and next to high end amazing hotels. You can get a good deal during the week (Sun to Thursday). You're next to MGM and the Venician. Make sure you show her one of the engineering marvels that is Hoover Dam. It's an amazing hydro power plant. It only takes a couple of hours to see from Vegas and take pictures. Don't need to take a tour unless you want to. You can be back at the casino in a few hours.

I think the easiest way to "see the snow" would be; drive to the Palm Springs (100 miles from LA) and go on the tram. You will be sweating due to the heat at the bottom. 15 minutes later you are on the top of Mt. San Jacinto. You put your on coat, hat, gloves and walk around in the snow. Yes, there is a Jollibee in Panorama City.
@senseofstile
@senseofstile 3 ай бұрын
Oh yes one other thing. There is a restaurant on the top. Even if you don't feel hungry, make sure to purchase the restaurant meal ticket with your tram ticket. Once you get to the top, the meal ticket costs more. If you already have your meal ticket, you're all set.

For Mae to see everything she needs to see y'all will never have to leave California. CA has literally everything. But prepared to throw down some dineros. Aside from the Hollywood sign I would stay the hell out of L.A. Between the crime, drugs and homeless pop there it makes Angeles City look like Beverly Hills. I'm biased, but if it was me I'd take Mae to the Mammoth Lakes Sierra if she wants to see and play in the snow. That's about as far removed from the riff-raff as you can get, and it is absolutely gorgeous country. And just the trip up there will allow her to see three different ecologies in the span of a few hours -- coastline to the L.A. Basin to the mountains to the desert and back up into the high mountains. Mae does need to experience the high desert; the difference in humidity alone would probably stun her senses. So will the bone-chilling cold if you take her to the top of Mammoth Mtn. The scenery you and Mae will see on the gondola is worth the price of admission. If that doesn't humble you you're dead. Fall down.

Paul: what address would you use for your US driver's license since you don't live there? Would your virtual mailbox work for that? Experiencing snow--I think there is a place on the island of Cebu where they have a bunch of animals, including a penguin area where they make snow and people can go through it. I remember seeing a YT video about it a while back. As far as places to visit, I'd recommend Grand Canyon, Yosemite National Park, Las Vegas (including visiting at night with all the lights), Hoover Dam, Sequoia National Park (close to Yosemite) with all the huge trees (with one big enough to drive a car through the trunk of the tree).

Very similar path for us...my wife and son are both dual citizens, they first came to the States in 2013. We maintain homes in both. Depends on lifestyle and resources, we go back and forth a lot, spent most of 2023 in Philippines as I was ready for a work break and the timing was right. We returned to Florida February 2024. Glad we did because living there in Philippines full time isn't really that appealing to us for a number of reasons, several months out of the year is ok, Balakbayan Visa covers that for me, getting Mae US Citizenship opens up a lot of doors for her down the road, I felt the same about my wife, has worked out great for our family.

Get married again in Vegas at the drive through wedding. It's really hard to lock in prices as they change so much depending on supply and demand and what's going on in town. Grand Canyon?, ATV desert trip?, boat on Colorado River? Hot air balloon ride? Helicopter ride. My favorite place to stay is Golden Nugget with the sharks in the $20,000,000 swimming pool, they have cheap rooms and expensive rooms, Google it, Fremont street is the best with free bands playing. One of the best buffets is at the Station Casino just North West of Fremont Street walking distance. Disneyland? Catalina Island? Queen Mary? Golden Corral buffet the best buffet in the USA. Anyway hope you have fun wish you could stay longer and do more things, last year when I was in PHP I wanted to go see the underground river in Palawan but my kids were sick so we could not go so it is still on my bucket list.

I think a trip is amazing idea. Its one of those funny things that people there live in paradise with a tight family system and want to visit here, yet we desire the tropical life there. Just like how Filipinas want to be lighter and US girls want to be tan. To me nothing more fun than doing an old-fashioned American road trip and seeing some national parks, visiting family. In and out of LAX, use Priceline for and other sites for hotels, you can have a lot of fun for $10k. Rental car $700, airfare $1000/ea, gas $500 or so, and hotels maybe $150/night. Honestly i think $7k should cover it with food cravings and everything for a few weeks, especially seeing how frugal you both can live there. Dont be too distracted by Jolibee inflation prices, people overpay there if they are home sick! Appreciate the little things, go have fun.

The Mirage in Vegas during the week day you can stay for as low as $ 69 a nite. Maybe lower. It's a great hotel located in the center of the strip next to the MGM and Venician hotels. I like to plan my Vegas stays Sunday to Thursday when possible. It's so much less crowded and expensive yet still so much fun. Your Vegas shows will be less as well on the weekdays! Unfortunately all is expensive... Rental cars around $ 70 per day ish for a compact car.

It would be a better opportunity for Mae to move to America get work , get a 401K , perhaps stock options , get her 40 quarters in under Social Security etc. The problem is America had become unaffordable and in your case Paul are you going back to work? Can you afford rent here? Buy a home here? The homeowners insurance will eat up your disposable income. Visit yes , and btw we have a Jolibee about 10 miles from us a 10 piece bucket of chicken is $41.00. Go to Pollo Tropical which is a healthier chicken and you can get a family meal for $19.00 , even a little less if you ask for a senior discount which Jollibees does not offer. Instead of hotels rent an AirB& B cheaper , more privacy and with you own kitchen you can make your own food. Good luck

Good thing is if you miss Filipino food there are lots of places now to get good food. Maybe by the time you two come back Mt Charleston lodge will be built again since it burnt down a few years ago. I use enterprise for car rental not a bad price if you pick up in the afternoon and drop off in the morning as the prices change depending on time of day. If in California besides Hollywood take her to Yosemite, Lake Tahoe and Big Sur. Of course then take her to the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas. While in Vegas a helicopter ride into the Grand Canyon and also take her to Hoover Dam. Because you are so close to the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert in Arizona you can do that by car and on the way back stop in Palm Springs. All of this is where you used to live.

Hey Paul I think the best blow them away attraction from my experience is when they walk up to the edge of the grand canyon. Of course Disneyland I know that is in Mae's mind.

Hi, been all over America, really. You can tour some online. Kings Canyon "Giant Stump", Sequoia and Yosemite National Parks. The Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoia trees. General Grant, General Sherman, Grizzly Giant, and hundreds of other giant trees you should be able to find online. Wish you both well.

In Vegas Mae might like the M&M store and the Coca-Cola-Store, maybe Hoover Dam and The Valley of Fire State Park (might be too far away if so Red Rock Canyon). Also might want to look at pictures on Google maps to get an idea of places you want to see.

I recently priced a vacation to Vegas online for 4 nights hotel, plane, rental car was about $3800. I will save it for my Thailand trip for 3 weeks stay instead. 😂

You can travel way cheaper than that if you want though. It's pretty clear that neither Baby Mae nor Paul need or want to stay at fancy places. Our hotel, very nice, right in Times Square before Christmas was only $235 a night) Vegas during the week can be very cheap if you don't need to stay on the Strip. A rental car for a week is the same as for four days.

it depends on what size rental car you want and for how long , if you want the extra insurance etc....in Michigan a midsize runs about $50 per day....not counting the insurance.no disrespect but once you are married your husband takes priority over your family....it almost sounds like you put your family first and your husband second????? That is not what the bible says.,,,,especially in a predomately Catholic country., Happy Easter btw...I know this was your holy week there.

I believe that they require the Filipina reside in the US for a minimum of 5 years. It doesn’t have to be consecutive… just accumulated.

Thats a hard decision. If your talking about visiting then yes definitely. If your talking about moving here to live then you have to consider a lot of things. Do you have kids that want to come or do they want to stay. To me I want to live close to my son and daughter so I can be there to watch them grow and learn. And cost of living is higher here in the US. But do what will make your lives the happiest together! You are an amazing couple and I want whats best for you both!

Is Paul finally having the Paradise Syndrome wear off? Man, think long about coming back here Paul. First the only way would be a B-2 (?) "marriage" visa. She would have to stay IN USA for some years without leaving to get her "green card". A tourist visa to visit might be very difficult to get the first time. If you move back, get ready, coz this country has really changed and not in a good way.. People are scared, angry, and wore out for a myriad of reasons.

I think you are confusing a Green Card with citizenship. When Mae is approved for a spousal visa, she will be issued a green card (and social security number) IMMEDIATELY upon lawful entry into the U.S. That green card, also known as a permanent resident visa, is good for 10 years, and is renewed automatically as long as the holder isn't doing bad things they're getting arrested for while they're in-country. Conversely, Mae would be eligible for full naturalized citizenship and all the benefits thereof after 3 years of residence in the United States, provided she can pass the citizenship exam. Please note that permanent resident visa holders that come in on a fiancé visa must wait 5 years before becoming eligible for citizenship, while permanent resident visa holders that come in already married to the American citizen petitioner have only a 3-year wait. Lastly, I agree with your sentiments regarding the changes in the United States and the outlook of many of the people. It seems a tectonic shift started in 2016 and has kept rippling out since then. Profane, stupid, belligerent statements and behavior are now applauded on a daily basis. I'd give Paul and Mae the same advice: Careful consideration is warranted regarding relocation here. I made my choice and brought my Filipina wife and son here, but we will be moving back overseas after my wife obtains U.S. citizenship.
