They look so cute, it's easy to forget how ferocious they can be when they're denied something like goldfish crackers. Many unwary tourists have needlessly put themselves in danger by approaching one too closely.

They were very lucky to have gotten that shot and survived. Sheer cuteness at that distance can be quite overpowering. That's how they capture their prey.

people from outside new zealand not knowing this isn’t a joke, this is what we really do. i remember when i was released, i have a really good memory lol, my parents were very sad because i was their first kid, but by the time they got to the third kid they were used to it.

Yeah I almost died when I got released, I live in Arizona so it was the desert. I barely survived the first year but foraged as much as I could. Nearly got eaten by vultures who thought I was dead numerous times, but I am here now.

Always ALWAYS carry a few chocolate bars when you go adventuring in the wild. You never know when you might need one to distract a wild baby so you can make a quick escape. YOUR LIFE MAY DEPEND ON IT. Wild babies.

Ahhahahahaha!! I needed this today. My 23 year old female child came back. I found her on my porch after many years and thousands of miles. Covered in tribal tattoos that even she doesn't know the meaning. How she found her way back, we may never know.

I remember I was released into the wild when i was 5 when my parents rescued another two little ones, they thought its time to release me into the wild. 30 years later I learned a lots of things.

i remember story my grandpa told me: he was driving on a road and suddenly he saw a baby running into the car, he was afraid to harm the car, so he tried to drive away from him. but suddenly his car was hit by a baby. he waked up as he saw only 1% of his car, other parts were eaten by a baby. that was a scary story if somebody's too dumb that's just a joke

This is very dangerous. Taking videos of a baby in the wild can get you hurt, the baby can be very vicious. If you encounter one, please do not approach. I'm sure the documentary team did the necessary steps to protect themselves during filming.

Remember when filming a baby to always go in pairs for protection and stay vigilant to cover each other's blind spots. This is why single parenthood is so difficult and especially dangerous.

I was recently in NZ and believe that I saw baby Nala. She had taken up with another pack and was eating crisps in the park with her adoptive parents. Nice to know that she is thriving in the wild. So often this is not the case with domesticated babies that are then released.

I remember it was back in 1997 when Mom and Dad finally decided it was time to let me go. I was their first born. It was hard at first but I managed thanks to Bunny, and so did siblings that followed years later. We are forever grateful to our parents as it is now our turn to release our babies into the wild starting this spring.

I tried this on my 14 year old, this experiment was deemed a failure as it continued to return night after night to raid the food storage and the coin jar. I then realized this was the childs natural migration path to leave the house between the hours 8AM to 10PM only to return when it needed to recharge.

I remember my first week out there in the wild. I was only 2 years old, but so hungry that could eat without limits. My only limitation was my food. I glimpsed a snake in the distance, I trotted like I was a horse and bit the snake's head while it was trying to do the same to me. To this day I have this scar on my face that symbolizes my victory in survival.

We actually do this is Australia too! Thank you for the educational video. The best tip I learnt before being free'd was to keep on high ground, and only eat plants and berries that other mammals eat - they are better able to decipher between edibles and poisons. My youngest can almost walk now so it won't be long U til I have an empty nest, but I hope that he will find his older siblings in the wild so they can all reunite.
