Humanity as it is, exists in a fallen state and can only be redeemed by the mercy of God. Jesus is our redemption if we choose to believe in him, our destruction if we choose not to. It is because as a faithful we are bound to find what are truth according to the revelation of God from time to time. The Holy Spirit will teach and guide us. If I will look only on the Bible, I am going to dismissed all the other revelation of God that was not written. In the book written by John (I'm not sure if it is the book of John or the book of Revelation), he said that not all the work of Jesus are written, but what was wrote was there for us to believe. Take for example, Joseph the foster father of Jesus, the scripture indicated that he was the son of Eli and on the other hand he was a son of Jacob. So who is his father according to the scripture? Nothing was written, but the Jews have their customs that if the a brother died without a child with his wife, she would marry his other male sibling to bore a child under the deceased husband. And according to tradition, Eli had died without a child, and his brother Jacob mary his wife and she bore a child. Thus Jacob is the biological father of Joseph, but due to their customs, Joseph was under the name of Eli. If we focused our truth only on what was stated on the Bible, we will be shorthand of what was God has revealed already. We will be shorthand also in knowing God in His fullness for what we have are partial truth. Partial truth will only lead to partial relationship with God. In the book of Timothy it says that the foundation and bulwark of truth is the church. So our foundation of truth is the church, for on His church He will reveal His truth.
