I have Remarkable cloud sync, as I was an early Remarkable owner, so this was gandfathered into my account when they started chanrging. I have found issues with getting PDFs downloaded onto the device though their desktop app. It is easy enough to import into the app, but syncing with the device was very unreliable. I found that best way for me was to upload the PDF to Google drive and importing from there onto the device. Once it is on the device then it will sync nicely with the Remarkable cloud. The only other annopyance is that when you import it from the Google Drive it puts it into the top level folder "My Files" and not your current folder.

100%. I’ve heard similar things from many users, and this is why I resort to their email function often (which sounds silly to most). There are some things they need to fix. But overall it’s doable. I didn’t get into mobile sync in this video either which is a whole other animal. Thank you for your thoughts!

@YvesThePoet Nice video - thank you. Can you confirm that when writing is turned into text, the writing disappears... irretrievably? I shouldn't think this would be a problem most of the time because the writing will have "served its purpose". However, one might want to keep both the converted text and the original handwriting. Or if the text recognition were faulty, one would like to look back at the original to decipher one's own scrawl. Eg, writg w/shortcuts. Also, swipe typing on a smartphone-sized keyb would be awesome.

It does keep both the original handwriting and the typed text, on separate pages. That’s a cool idea for the keyboard. I will say the built-in keyboard is lacking… quite slow compared to when typing on phone or iPad. That’s why I prefer the type pad. Not advice / DYOR but I hope this helped. Good luck with your search!

I am looking to purchase the Remarkable 2 in the next few months. Whats it like reading articles and academic papers? and how bothered are about the lack of Backlight?

I enjoy it a lot for signing documents on the fly. I haven’t tried really lengthy articles on it, but short ones are fine. The responsiveness of the screen is not as on point as the iPad so if you’re flipping/scrolling through many pages, it could get annoying. Backlight isn’t something I personally need bc I have a desk light at night, but if you use it while traveling a lot it might not be a good choice. Essentially the iPad is a better “machine”, but for people who want to ditch the intense blue light all day and opt for something gentler and slower, reMarkable has an advantage. Hope this helps.

@@YvesThePoetthank you, this was insightful. I do have one more question. If you had a choice between Onyx books device and the remarkable, which one would you choose?

@@Barraraika Great question, but unfortunately I haven’t tried the onyx so I can’t give you feedback there. I would be willing to look into it and maybe film a trial review someday. While I cannot give you advice on any financial decisions and I always recommend you do your own research, I’d ultimately say it comes down to what you’re using the product for. If it’s just writing and very light reading, the reMarkable has a nice, simple feel. There are probably some great reviews of the Onyx on here, too. Good luck in your search!
