So many artists were robbed in this way. These companies should be held as thieves with fines AND jail time.
@EnjoyLifeNow243 жыл бұрын
Sentence Hollywood to jail? That will never happen. Hollywood is part of the power structure of the U.S.A. Those who belong to that club never go to jail. There is a different interpretation of the law when it comes to the powerful and a different one when it comes to us in the working class. Immunity for those who are part of the club and jail for the average folks. That's how judicial systems operate around the world. No politician or political party will ever fix that and they know they can't if they want to remain alive and remain members of the club.

The artists sign contracts that basically cuts them out of a lot of the profits from record sales and if Irene didn't sign a contract that said she would get royalties then that's why she didn't get any even though she deserves it. Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball didn't get any royalties from I Love Lucy when it went into syndication because they thought no one would watch reruns and didn't bother with contractual agreements stating that they would. Reruns were not a "thing" back then so they didn't see any future in it. Think of all the merchandise with their faces on them and they got nothing from the sales because they didn't sign a contract. The only person who got royalties was writer producer Jess Oppenheimer who wouldn't agree to the show being syndicated unless he got royalties on the off chance it was profitable and it was. Seventy years later, the show is still around.

Yes, thumbs up on that comment, Maestro. As I written, posted above I wondered the same thing about her erosion of popularity. That area of the music industry is unfair, and there is no logic, and any ethics behind it.
@TheWallReports3 жыл бұрын
@@georgeanastasopoulos5865 It's not just an area of the industry, at least 90% of the industry is like that irregardless if the record company is black, white or whatever. New Edition was robbed early on when they were under Maurice White of Earth, Wind & Fire label. When New Edition sued to get from under their contract with him, he retaliated by forming the all white boy group "New Kids on the Block". Remember them? He probably paid them. The style of music very much the same like New Edition's early material. The same goes for the "Mary Jane Girls" under Rick James. Rick took their money. It is bad enough when black artists are preyed upon by white run music companies, but when black music companies do the same to black artists it is beyond atrocious. This is the equivalence of cannibalism. Quite sad.

The Rise, The Fall and The Resurrection of Irene Cara, is one of the most tragic stories in Hollywood. From child star the beautiful vibrant Afro-Latina rose to become a major film and recoding artist, winning an Oscar, Grammy and countless other accolades. Yet she paid a price for fame, including career and financial mismanagement, drug addiction and prossibly sexual exploitation, as well. The fact that there has never been a Greatest Hits compilation or Book written about her means the entertainment industry wishes she was forgotten. But the quote from her most famous song says it all, “I’m Gonna Live Forever, Your Gonna Remember My Name.” You better believe Irene will be back.

I always loved Irene Cara, especially in 'Roots' and in FAME, I miss seeing her on the screen, it's shame about the record companies, I keep hearing this time and time again, Anita Baker is going thru it. Thank you so much for this documentary. I have been an avid fan of Irene's music from that time, but did not follow her career after that. She is so obviously gifted in music. But I always felt that she exuded an aura of goodness from her soul. I'm sorry for the way the Greed-meisters did to her. Can't have gifts like that without being or having a shark for protection. Thank you for this wonderful video of Irene and her music.

*Irene Cara* ! Thank you T.Swoope, great update on her story and recent activities. Why she hasn't been hired for more acting roles as EVERY younger Black and/or LatinX actresses/actors' mother or sister is beyond me. She's same age as Angela Bassett and could play her sister easily or J-Lo / Cardi B / Nikki Minaj's mother. Her elder curves look great on her, still fine & now thick. *Puerto Rican / Cuban / DR etc. is nationality not RACE* . Good job.

For those of you that don't know, Irene Cara paved the was for the African American & Latina Triple Treats: Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce & Christina Milian etc. A lot of talented young ladies would have been passed over if Irene Cara & Janet Jackson hadn't kicked open doors. They made "mainstream" music more diverse. I just can't believe she's gone. Thank you for blessing us with your wonderful talents and for speaking up for yourself and others in the music industry. RIP!

A lot of black talented Artists were ripped off and not paid their dues from that era. Glad Irene is still doing her thing. You can't keep a strong woman down 👏🏾. She still is a wonderful artist.

I think you will find this applies to most people in life, but they don't have anybody to piss and moan too as a means of using their skin colour all the time as some form of leverage or get out of jail card when you find yourself in a pickle of sorts. Salut
