Glad to see that they have improved some things. Happy to see them back and hope they do well and keep improving stuff. Really excited to see they updated the twist rate on the 223 models. It is the slow 1-12 or the 1-9, but a 1-8. very few on the market with what i call the preferred config for 223 bolt guns. I don't want a micro action or AR mags. When i am shooting 223 from a bolt gun it is with 80gr or higher bullets. Also, you mentioned the trigger. Funny enough all new Remington 700s come with a Timney trigger from the factory.

The true advantage of the Rem 700 action is that everyone makes stuff for it. So, while taking the SPS out of budget friendliness, you can still upgrade for not a lot. Any trigger swap, like mentioned, will do. Everyone and his cousin makes a chassis or stock for the Rem 700. And yeah, it was the foundation of the Army and the Marines 7.62X51 mm NATO rifles, essentially the basis of "sniper" rifles. They didn't call them that. It was just the rifle issued to snipers, which is a job description, not a rifle description. What makes a rifle a sniper rifle is when it is being used by an actively serving soldier with a sniper MOS.

I have a Rem 700 308 light tactical, 20 inch barrel. Gun is about 12 years old, with federal 168 it shoots 1/4 MOA. I haven’t seen many like it. It was my stepdads gun and when he passed my mom gave me the gun. I’ve stabilized the stock and bedded the action and recoil lug. Really great shooting gun. Also dropped a 1 lb Timney trigger in it.

If you can legitimately shoot a .25 5 shot group on demand with that rifle then go enter a benchrest competition you'll do really well. What you actually mean is you shot a .25 3 shot group, shot 1 or 2 more that blew it out to slightly under moa and then you subtracted the 1 or 2 'fliers' because they detracted from the illusion of the accuracy of the rifle.

Enjoyed the video. I own a 1980s bdl .270. I have moved on to Tikkas Howas but those bolts on them 1980s-1990s 700s can be butter smooth. Smoother than my Tikka or Howa even though both super smooth. And the bluing on my Remington bdl is light years better than my newer recent 2020s Tikka and Howa. A real deep blueing. Subscribed.

Couple of shooting tips. Your rest is backwards and having the front of the base come off of the bench will hurt your groups. A little baby powder on the front bag will reduce friction there. On the outdoor shooting, your front and probably rear sling swivel lugs were making contact with your bags, which will hurt accuracy.

I bought one of these, 16 inch 308 post bankrupt. I would have replaced the factory Bergara trigger and stock anyways so I thought I’d save the money and get the Remington. Only worries I had at that point vs the bergara were barrel and extractor. Barrel ended up being great and it hasn’t had any extraction issues so in my mind I saved a couple hundo on the same gun

My first hunting rifle was a 1990s Rem 700 ADL in 30-06, which was reliable and shot just a hair over an inch at 100 yds. I had always wanted a Model 7 so I bought one in 7mm-08, along with a Rem 597 .22lr during the Cerberus era. The Model 7 went back to the factory with head space issues and the 597 had to go back to the factory not once, not twice, but three times. I swore off Remington and now shoot either Savages or Howas/Weatherby Vanguards. While I would love for Remington to make a comeback, I think other manufacturers have filled their place in the market. Bergaras come in at the same price point, yet have a great reputation for accuracy and reliability. The CVA Cascade (different brand, same company) also has a good reputation for accuracy at an affordable price. Savage has expanded its offerings, and Howa has increased its sales through increased marketing and sales of barreled actions through Brownells. With all these great options, Remington will have a hard time wooing shooters like me who had a terrible experience with their products in the past. Cerberus killed the golden goose.

The 20" barrel is awesome. I found one for $500 "used" (never fired and still in the box) at a local shop with a $90 bushnell walmart scope attached to it. The shop owner said no one wanted it because the short barrel means it wouldn't be accurate. He had a $675 price tag and I said "well if the short barrel makes it so terrible I'll take it off your hands for $450." He agreed to sell it for $500 saying "Well it's probably going to be terrible past 100 yards." I said "You really know how to talk down the guns you're selling." This rifle shoots better than I ever will. That's for sure. He's the ultimate fudd FFL. He thinks glocks blow up because they're "plastic" lol. When I said "The barrel isn't plastic and no they don't blow up 'all the time' considering they're the best selling pistol by far" he went on a rant about how the slides just blow right off the plastic frame and how they're junk blah blah. I told him that any out of the box glock will shoot much more reliably than all of the ridiculously overpriced kimbers he sold and he got really pissed. Probably because he had a bunch of complaints from people about some kimbers being picky with ammo/mags. Acoording to him 1911s are the only good pistols ever made! This guy also told me that shooting a single #7 shot 12ga shell out of a rifled slug barrel would ruin the rifling instantly. Also that my NAA .22mag would blow up because it's too small and can't handle the pressures with "so little metal". A kid came in to buy a 10/22 right after he turned 18 and the guy told him it was "too complicated" and basically forced the kid to buy single shot .22 instead. I wish I had spoken up. The poor kid thought this guy knew what he was talking about. "See all these little parts here son? They're going to need to be cleaned and maintained but you won't have that issue with the bolt action. These 10/22s do nothing but jam jam jam." If they jam so much why the hell is he even selling them? I have no idea how that shop is still open.

I worked at my LGS a few years ago the fit and finish of Remington 700s wasn't want it used to be. Here we are post bankruptcy and my former manger told me the Remington coming off the assembly line is far better than before. All the bolt rifles come with the 5R barrels and with Timney triggers. Quite an improvement. I may have an anomaly. I bought my 700 SPS Varmint .22-250 around 2018 and I don't see the fit and finish issues that I saw in some rifles. I guess it was a hit and miss. I installed a Timney trigger and Hogue overmolded full bed stock. This rifle doesn't like expensive ammo either. It groups well with S&B 55gr SP out to 300 yards. Beyond that the wind does its thing on the little bullet. About accuracy. I have a Browning X-Bolt FLD .30-06 that took a while to group well. The ammo that this rifle groups the best is the Hornady American Whitetail 150gr SP flat base. Its zeroed at 200 yards with a three shot .75 group which is more than what I expected with $20 a box ammo. Now that I know how well it shoots I won't be fussing around trying different ammo. I have a second Browning X-Bolt Stalker .30-06 and it doesn't like the American Whitetail. It groups a little better at 200 yards with Remington Core-Lokt 150gr SP. Imagine that! Here in Texas the furthest I'll shoot is roughly 200 yards or less when hunting. Both the Remington and Hornady ammo is lethal out to 400 yards beyond that the bullet doesn't have enough velocity to expand. I have a limit of 300 yards at my gun club. I'd have to drive half a day to a one that has a range of 500 yards or better. It is expensive to see what ammo works with a given rifle. Don't forget that exceptional glass is a big component. Gun, glass and ammo plus a patient shooter = accuracy.

Historically, Rem has always has a bit of a jump in the throat to the lands. While this is great for hunting using a wider range of ammo, you are not going to see any major improvements until the over all length is longer than SAAMI spec. Find your land depth, then seat back 0.020 and test loads to find the node.

I have just recently found your channel, and I do enjoy your content. However, I do have one complaint about your review of the Remington 700 though. I do understand that this is all a personal opinion of the product by you about the hinged floor plate, but there are people who prefer them. They also serve their place in the shooting community very well. This is why there are so many companies out there who produce conversion kits for many styles of rifles including the Remington 700. As a further note, for the people out there who do prefer the hinged floor plate, there are very few manufacturers left offering that version of rifle in their lineup. It also goes to note, it is cheaper to manufacture a rifle with a detachable magazine than with a hinged floor plate. With the ability to convert your rifle, you have a plethora of options to suit your tastes.

You picked all the ammo except for the best ammunition for that rifle. Besides the last ammo that shot.33. I'm curious if this is common for you . I'm in California so lead free restrictions . Now I reload but also always try out factory ammo in my rifles just in case I can use some off the shelf stuff . And I've Never found a barnes factory load in any of my rifles that will shoot under 2 .

I had the pre bankruptcy 700 ltr 308 for duty. The action blah, would not eject properly and would constantly double feed. Trigger was ok. Fluted bull barrel was decent. Hinge plate mag on a duty rifle! Dumb! My duty model 70 which the ltr replaced, worked much better, and it was a converted hunting rifle. I have not liked Remington for years either for duty or personal use. Hopefully they can turn it around. Never was a fan of 2 lugs and the bolt throw on the rem. Thank you for the review.

How do the turrets on the Discovery ED PRS compare to the Arken EPL5?
@EpikArms
@EpikArms 6 ай бұрын
EP5 feel sharper and have more resistance, both have not movement between click and both are positive and audible, i woudnt base my choice on the turret feel between the two, my main takavay is the glas is a hair better on the Discovery (not by much) but the fit and finish (how smooth the parallax and the magnification is) is better on the Arken

Not the first Remington in 6.5CM I see that needs a real crush to get reloads to chamber smoothly. They cut a tight and seemingly concentric chamber! Its too bad for the price but Hogue stocks just scream "throw me away and get something stiffer!" and I bet it starts grouping more consistently

With the exchange rate in here is Australia these new Remingtons are going to struggle. While Remingtons were having their moment of poor quality, brands like Tikka jumped in and flooded our market with accurate rifles, accessories and variety, also Howa and weatherby added their bit. There are Remington fans here but will there be enough?

Way too many good $1000 guns to consider this. Remington has a wrecked reputation. If you want a 700 footprint the Bergara is the same price. This actually has me thinking about adding a 308 to my safe. Either another Bergara or a Savage 110 tactical. 308 is a lot easier on barrels than my 6.5 Creedmoor. Grab a better optic for my 6.5 and put the SWFA 10x on the 308 and call it good. Yep......I think it's time to go my local shop for a possible new rig. I really need to add a second safe to the list as well. 24 gun capacity my ass.
