This cannot be done without the fancy jig, which we happen to have made. The target knob is popular with my clients. NOT a tutorial...we show what you need to learn, not how to do . Cannot perform at this level? Do NOT attempt. Support us: / anvi

Tip for home gamers: make absolutely certain your setup is secure before turning something like that. Lathes can throw surprisingly heavy things surprisingly fast. Had a mandrel at work let go. Threw 50lbs of aluminum across the aisle and hit another lathe hard enough to move it 6".

I've literally seen holes in workshop walls from apprentice machinists leaving the chuck key in place and turn the lathe on.

Nice, angle grinder with cut off wheels and flap disc, tap and die set, also works! Done five that way. But nice work.

We have the gear so we use it. It only buys us some speed, your way is just as good, just sayin.....

As a complete stranger to lathe and mill work. That setup looked gnarly spinning on the lathe like that. At whatever rpm it was running at. Great job at the end of the day though.

Thanks guys, this is another absolutely brilliant video that makes your show such a pleasure to watch ... takes me back to my youth in the HVAC shop with my old man, playing on the the ol' South Bend. Keep on doing cool shit!!

Personally I've found the best knob to have is a smooth spherical knob like the old Mausers.

Absolutely the thing I want if I'm trying to run fast. And if I don't care about speed, I don't see where the shape makes much difference at all.

@@bBlaF It just feels better on the pulm of the hand than the edge of a barrel shape digging in.
@Johnny-jr2lq
@Johnny-jr2lq Ай бұрын
@@bBlaFWell if your keeping your brass that kinda shape makes it easier to run the bolt one handed. I can in a prone position cycle the action on my Bergera B14 eject the fired piece of brass into my hand place that brass back into my cartridge box and then push and new cartridge into battery in 1 fluid motion. Over all the bigger knobs just make doing that a bit easier and add a little bit of personal flair to the rifle.

Its important that the end of your knob is round for maximum comfort

@@Johnny-jr2lq That's why I like the old Mauser knobs, they're not small like the others.

It's claimed that the people who really struck it rich in the '49er gold rush, were the people who sold impedimenta to the prospective prospectors. Acknowledging, that it is your bread & butter to accede to the wishes of your clients, have you ever wondered how many squirrel tails can be attached to any one shooting platform? That grand repository of wisdom, Murphy's Law, must surely enumerate the Law of Nature violated when the weight of optional accessories exceeds the weight of the original item.

Funny how when you go to a technical school to learn to be a machinist, you just get chunks of steel, and make what they tell you. Then you hit the real world, and you have to be a jig making fool to get your work done.

Did this with an angle grinder on a Savage. Twice. But Savage bolt handles are way easier and cheaper to replace if it goes wrong. Still working up my nerve to try it on my 700.

Clearly it must be a popular mod if you've gone to the trouble of buying or making the jig, I imagine it would take quite a few of these mods for the jig to pay for itself.
