Thanks Jim. I was attempting a valve cover gasket change and was pulling what little hair I have left out. Once you explained it, it makes perfect sense.

Thanks for the instructions. Though I did get the PS off without removing the compressor. My gasket was crispy was the problem. Saving the DS for warmer weather as it isn't leaking.

What if the driver valve cover has EGR valve on it? 08 Durango 3.7. I think it's on the cover. Also, it is safe to pull rockers and lifters out to check them, then simply replace if needed, right? Thanks for the info especially the drivers cover.

Thank you for this, I'm fixing to do this on the next warmer day off I have. The brake booster, you can just move it aside enough then? You don't have to disconnect any brake lines and bleed the brakes afterwards?

Jim is there a video that shows me step by step on this? You explained it but I'm a newbie and I need a little bit more guidance :)

Did that valve cover gasket cause a white smoke from that back corner of the engine?

There HAS to be a better way of engineering that compartment that what those goons came up with. I have an 05 Dakota but luckily haven't had an issue with the vcg's yet. I pray I never do after seeing this. Thanks for taking the time.

Hi Jim, thanks for the video. My problem is trying to get the valve covers off a Jeep Liberty with a bad misfire and loss of compression on cylinder No 2. I've got the wiring etc out of the way and the bolts loosened off but the covers are stuck tight and whacking them with a rubber hammer won't release them. Any advice?
@jimthecarguy7 жыл бұрын
If they are stuck that tight it may be time to use a hammer and a scraper .The tap the scraper in between the cover and the head to loosen it.Thank you for stopping by the shop

Thanks for this video, Jim. I have a 2006 Dakota RWD 3.7 and will need to replace the lifters. Do you recommend locktite on the valve cover bolts?
@jimthecarguy5 жыл бұрын
Good question . No I would not use any kind of lock tight . Thanks for watching. Don't forget to subscribe.

Fantastic tips Jim. That had to be a 6 hour job ?

Steve Rob Hi Steve Ya they were a real pain in the rear end but the worst part was removing the rusted bolts that were 10 mm .10 mm was to big and 3/8 was to small.

The booster is the key. Thx. What's the fix for the 3.7 slinging rocker arms?
@scottwelinski85007 жыл бұрын
3.7 must look identical to a 4.7 with the exception of missing 2 cylinders. my 4.7 v8 looks identical

very informative video. distressing too. it's a damned shame the foreign-speaking accented engineers at Chrysler, won't get off their asz and stop designing crap like this, that is nearly un-serviceable. that is easily an 8 hour, all day job. they should have had the plastic covers from the get go. #2, when these vehicles get some miles on them over 100k, they drop rocker arms- then those new plastic covers have to be pulled again, to change lifters and reinstall rockers. what a major PITA, that's what I'm doing now. dropped a rocker on a 3.7 - Dodge and Chrysler in general, are vehicles to be avoided.

Tell the viewers to do this and to do that is not tutorial. Hell, I can tell viewers to build a house with your instructional method. How about planned ahead and video as you do the work, it would be added value to your video.

I'm not a total greenie so I appreciate the quick tips and tricks. If you need detailed instructions there are videos of that level too. I'm not interested in seeing someone take 2 min ratcheting their sockets (& mouth) per bolt head.

He said "fairly simple" what the hell is simple about tearing apart the entire top of the engine??!!
