Just curious, because I wouldn't know, would using a torque wrench as a breaker bar, as long as you don't exert more than the rated torque on the bar, be a problem?

@@freedomfox8183 you really don't get my comment? You are basically agreeing with me. I'm agreeing that it was a test because of the washer being "the dead give away". It wasn't rusted on and thermal cycled. It would be harder to take off but it's been removed and re torqued. I would of liked to see him break it loose before the test just to see if it would get the bolt out. I mean the camera and impact were already there. I understand the test but it's just not "real world".

The density of the lawn, along with the bending moment of the tractor under the applied said torque and depending on the type of soil would not allow you to maintain 650. (R2/(4xTAN/COS*14.7)*tC). 14.7 atmospheric pressure assumes you are at sea level. Applying the formula would result in 649.7684754lbs. I told my dad the $400,000 he paid for me to go to engineering school would pay off.

If you look at the specs it says breakaway torque is 1500ftlb and tightening torque 1100ftlb. Why would you make an impact that tightens harder than its breakaway. No one used impacts to tighten things on mainly. They usually use a torque wrench. Since tightening a bolt is more specific to its application. Why is it you always see people testing a device on how well it loosens. Its because breakaway torque is a selling point with impact drivers. So of course its going to be tighter than tightening torque capabilities.

I remember the 8th grade ijag school trip to a John Deere tractor factory as we only live minutes away, they have all electronically set tools there so there isn’t any room for user error, they had a torque wrench set at somewhere around 275 lb ft and me being the largest kid in our class (5’10,200lbs) my friends wanted me to try it out, so I went up and have a little hop and put my weight onto it and it clicked right like that this definitely is not only 200 lb ft

A fastener torqued to 650 lb/ft doesn’t require that much to remove it. Not to mention since it’s already been turned it has no oxidation or dirt that has built up in the threads. Still impressive, but misleading.

Even the big one will not do that with 1 5/8 nuts tightened to that sat and rusted for 10 years. I speak from experience. Every one things I must have used a week battery but I had the highest power battery available and I had it on the highest setting. Ended up having to use a 1 inch drive air impact.

You have that backwards, tightening torque is less than breakaway on these guns.
@Pauleh123
@Pauleh123 3 жыл бұрын
@@DaDaDo661 Yes, the gun may be stronger in reverse, BUT if you tighten a bolt to 100ft/lbs, break away torque is less then tightening torque, something like 80ft/lbs. The threads on a bolt are like a wedge, it takes a lot of force to stick a wedge in a door to keep it open, but just a tap to knock it loose. Bolt is kinda the same way. If the guy used a true wrench to take that bolt off, it might only be 500 ft/lbs to loosen the bolt, where he put 650 ft/lbs to put it on.
